3 wet patches?!

purpleme12 · 10/02/2023 19:06

We noticed this evening 3, what looked to be wet patches, on kitchen ceiling.
Two quite near and the other one further along, but in same line.
I touched them and it was only that actually was wet at that time.
The bathroom is above the kitchen.
Has anyone had this before?!
Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Do I call plumber?

Wriggly line is red herring.
It's always had marks under it.
It's the one along length of bath that's wet

I hope you can get a plumber quickly on Monday. Make sure everyone knows not to use the bath.

Do make the hole in the ceiling with a bbq skewer, put a bowl underneath to catch the water.

FenghuangHoyan · 10/02/2023 22:16

Okay. If nothing is above it, then it must have come from further along the same floorboard or from across the floor. It won't have flowed upwards. As John says, take a picture further back from the wet bit so we can see the bath and floor.

I expect you have a bathroom floor that runs up to the bath trim. It might be that the water is flowing under that floor (but above a sealant) And coming out where the floor end. I'm that care it could be your sink. It is really hard to tell from what you've said and shown.

Please excuse the mess

Show us, looking into the corners under the bath at both ends. Especially the plug end.

PigletJohn · 10/02/2023 22:23

Is there a shower on the wall?

OldTinHat · 10/02/2023 22:24

Could it be coming from the toilet and the water is running off the tiles onto the wooden floor under the bath?

Does your floor slope that way? Have you got a spirit level to check?

I had a similar leaky loo which caused problems.

Okay... So you have water on the floor board that is right next to your tile floor, but from there to further under the bath is dry right?

I assume the water on that floor board is all the way along that floor board and there is nothing at all above that floor board (including up by the wall that we can't see in your picture) that could be leaking.

Assuming that's the case, I assume you've not got water on your tiled floor and no one split anything. If so, then as John says, look for where there is most water and see if - as unlikely as it seems- there's a gap under your tiles where water could be running. I think this option is clothing at straws, but I can't understand where the water is coming from otherwise.

Yes but that is on the wall.
(The wet floor bit is not at the wall)
I haven't had a shower for a while

Op did you see my post about the bath and sealant? It really looks the same. It was the shower water going under the bath and then along to the plasterboard joins.

Here

That beige looking metal pipe that goes down into your floor boards next you the end of the baton looks suspicious to me. Is that wet or the white pipe behind it?

Also, check if there's water coming around that fascia that the two white pipe disappear into. There might be a leak in that area.

PigletJohn · 10/02/2023 22:35

'Mmmmm I can't see where it's coming from.

Might be running under that batten.

No other damp patches? Not in the joints of the floor tiles? Can you stand back and photograph the rest of the room please for clues? Include the shower and the WC cistern.

Nothing's wet at that end

I can't turn the stop tap off! It's screwed on so tight! Asked a neighbour and she couldn't do it either!
No one else to ask!

OP posts:

It's leaking more now I've put a hole in the ceiling!

OP posts:
FenghuangHoyan · 10/02/2023 22:48

So... Under the bath is dry the only pipes going over it are dry. The tiles (I assume) are dry. No one spilt some water on the tiles previously I assume it sloshed water out of the bath.

If that's the case, then it's got to be coming from under the tiles (which will be stuck to the underfloor with dabs of cement and that leaves gaps,). Therefore, it has got to be getting under there from somewhere else in the bathroom. I've not known this happen before, but can't think of anything else.

I assume there's a sink and a toilet. Check the pipes going into both of them, especially near the floor.

purpleme12 · 10/02/2023 22:48

That's a good thing. It is draining the water that is on top of your roof and will stop it falling down. That's why you do it.

I don't know whether it's going to stop!

OP posts:
FenghuangHoyan · 10/02/2023 22:52

It's better that it's coming down than building up in there without draining or your whole ceiling would come down.

FenghuangHoyan · 10/02/2023 22:53

And from what you've shown, there's not loads of water leaking , so it should ease off relatively quickly

PigletJohn · 10/02/2023 22:53

Might be the WC cistern. Open the lid. Is it surprisingly full? Is water dripping or running into it? Put a bit of food colouring in if you have it.

What is on the other side of the wall at the wet end of the bath?

Is there a radiator?
