What F&B for creamy off white?

All-white looks too bright.

Wimborne White (my fave in theory) is showing up a bizarre lemony colour?

Wevet is the nicest, but is described as a grey and I am definitely sick of grey!

Have painters coming as a team to do a builder's paint (two mist coats and one last finish plus woodwork) on entire house, ceilings walls woodwork, they are priced in to get in, get round and get out, so I would like a nice off white that will look bright and fresh for us to move in to, then I can go round painting or wallpapering with more adventurous choices. Been a long and unbelievably expensive reno and I'm just dying to get it finished tbh.

Had Cornforth White, Ammonite, Elephant's Breath, Oval Room Blue, Hague Blue, Treron, Stiffkey Blue, Inchyra Blue, De Nimes, Slipper Satin, and Strong White in various rooms in my life (yes I have moved and painted a lot, inc furniture) how can this be so hard?!

We have Pointing throughout our house on the woodwork and some walls and its a lovely white

For £200 you can get a F&B consultant to come to your house and advice you on how each colour will look depending on the light in your rooms. Then you get the money off any paint you buy.

My F&B devotee neighbour has SlipperSatin in north and south facing rooms. Looks like a lovely creamy white to my untrained eye.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2023 13:45

I'm in the middle of doing my whole house Wimborne White. It is lovely. My house is north facing in Scotland. The rooms look bright but not stark and in the evening with lights on they have a really warm tone.

There is a colour called Warm White by Atelier Ellis which might be what you want. It's not too grey and doesn't seem to be yellow. I have it in my north/south facing hallway and it looks lovely in both orientations which is quite a thing for a white. They also do a double and triple warm white which are slightly warmer each time.

You can only order it online but I can't recommend it enough. Since we've had it done my friend and my mother in law have both used it in their houses!

Have you tried Dimity? Maybe more creamy that you’re looking for but I think it’s gorgeous

Was coming on to say Dimity. It’s not truly white though. Wevet is a proper white - we have it on woodwork.

i didn't want cream I wanted white, the lighting is shocking and you think oh it's bright but it isn't in contrast to bright white.

Also ignore the carpet - it is to be replaced next week

What paint is that sorry? Might have missed you saying upthread. Looks fresh and white but not in a stark way.

Madreb · 24/01/2023 22:00

Housenoob it's white 02 by Lick paints. a bit pricey, but worth it!

Remmy123 · 25/01/2023 21:43

Slipper satin

LizzieSiddal · 25/01/2023 21:48

I too recommend Pointing. I spent an absolute fortune on all the F&B “White” Sample Pots. Pointing was the winner!

Oxfordkitchen · 25/01/2023 21:54

I've tried samples of all the F&B whites in different parts of the house. Wimborne is creamy with a yellowish tinge for me. Went with Wevit in the end and it's perfect, a great milky white, soft and not clinical. I see no grey in it at all. Good on woodwork and walls.

butterflycatcher · 26/01/2023 20:13

We've used Shadow White with Wimborne White on ceilings and woodwork around a lot of our house. It can look creamy and then takes on a more greige look in low light. Thought I would share a pic as it hadn't been mentioned. Was horrified with how murky it looked when I first started painting it on to the wall but glad I stuck with it.

I really really like that, although I wouldn't call it a white, definitely more greige (hard to tell on photos though isn't it!). Tempted to try that in another room actually.

It is white in some rooms. It’s such a bizarre colour.

If you go to farrow and balls Instagram today they have a post about school house white showing it in 4 different rooms. One it looks grey green, one olive beige, one biscuit beige, and one white very slightly green ( a bit like James white).

It is beautiful in nearly every aspect. Can look a bit grungy in north though unfortunately. Or in dual aspect where it ends up half grungy, half biscuity and just a bit odd.

Sparklingblah · 29/01/2023 14:40

I really liked the shadow white in theory, so up in my list, but it was a bizarre green greige in the house!

I have a new sample of wimborne white (my old one was a bit old and discoloured and more yellow than i'd remembered), slipper satin and another one.

Thank you so much for all the advice! I will report back!

Paint the ceiling the same colour it will look so much better

Helenabelle · 02/03/2024 05:48

Yep it’s definitely magnolia vibe. Can look a bit like a smokers stained white too

Helenabelle · 02/03/2024 06:01

It is!!! The reality is magnolia is essentially a white with a warm creamy yellow/red undertone and depending on an individual's perception it could even be called cream, antique white or buttermilk. Very similar to pointing. Pointing is one of F&B red bases neutral. Its undertone is red. So it’s basically a slightly paler magnolia !!

Please May I ask what colour you went with in the end. Having the same problem!!
