I am struggling on so many levels to be honest but:
there is a beam
then the ceiling is 10 cm lower

so its 2.4, 2.1, 2,3 and it makes the cupboards look pants

Any help?

Open shelving? or if you can afford it a proper carpenter could make them made to measure. Sorry I've not got anything more constructive.

inloveandmarried · 12/01/2023 15:34

You are wasting a lot of space in that corner. Who designed the layout for you?

parietal · 12/01/2023 15:46

get rid of the corner cupboard at a funny angle and just have the oven unit straight in line with the long wall.

open shelving would look great and then you don't have to worry about heights.
Maybe one high cupboard and then open for the rest?

MenaiMna · 12/01/2023 16:19

Where does the beam run please? As pp say the tall corner is a weird waste of space, and open shelving on the "short" end of the kitchen makes sense. Have to hold judgment on whether wall cupboards make sense at all until i know where the beam is.

Caspianberg · 12/01/2023 16:24

I wouldn’t have any high cupboards.

run open shelf along long wall, and maybe a plate rack type cupboard on end near door

Caspianberg · 12/01/2023 16:26

Where the hob is, put oven underneath, with built in extractor above. Then open shelving either side. Like pic

Personally I believe this kitchen needs a complete rethink. The corner oven is a massive space loser but I also hate how the sink looks. It'd be much nicer with plain worktop in that area. Could the sink go beside the fridge?

For the eye level cupboards could you make them both the same lower level?

StarInTheHeavens · 12/01/2023 16:31

Do you have any more images from different angles?

FannyFifer · 12/01/2023 16:32

Who designed that?

Have u an actual pic & I bet folk can come up with a much better layout.

KatyMac · 12/01/2023 16:42

Aw thanks everyone for the help

I'll list sone of my wants and a picture of the beam/ceiling

Most base units have to be drawers as instruggle to reach into cupboards

The oven must be higher with worktop other side

The sink has to be places so you can see the lounge end of the kitchen

Currently I have 2.5m of wall unit and 4m of base unit plus a corner unit (which I hate so much) and the sink

Swap the hob and sink. Have the wall cupboards all the same size at the same height. Move the oven unit to the end. Open shelves into the corner with a corner base unit.

Next to the fridge is an extra wide worktop with cupboard that come down to it and then long cupboards to put toaster, breadmaker etc all hidden away

The beam is sort of here....but straighter....

And my last want/need - I cannot stand the wideness of the oven housing meets the narrow depth of the wall units - that step is as horrid as the mixed height cupboards

MenaiMna · 12/01/2023 17:00

But where is the beam? Is it lengthwise centred through living and kitchen or widthwise separating living and kitchen or widthwise halfway through the kitchen?

MenaiMna · 12/01/2023 17:05

Would you swap ends entirely? Then you have a nice big l shape and lower ceiling (if it's at current kitchen end) is cosier in a dining room or lounge.

That is what I currently have and I'd like to use the French doors in my lounge plus I'd like a large lounge I gain a whole metre

The beam runs from the fridge freezer to over where the hob is

Oh and open shelves won't work as I have a siamese!!

KatyMac · 12/01/2023 17:16

& finally (I promise) the cat is why all of the wall units will be boxed in right up to the ceiling but all the levels is upsetting

Put the oven unit under the beam on the back wall. Change that weird corner cut out to a walk in pantry.

Haha I get it, my late crazy cat would pounce as I ate and bat food right out of my mouth.

MenaiMna · 12/01/2023 17:45

Taking a lead from the dresser style cupboard near the door I'd make both sides extra wide emphasing its "galley" style. Move the ovens to the right of the dresser and a landing bench for hot food to the right of the ovens. With two deep runs that's a lot of drawer space so you won't miss upper shelves.
Put the fridge freezer into the corner facing the "dresser" and hob opp oven and keep your sink where you like it. You don't like corners so if you are in the lounge facing kitchen have drawers on the left of your sink opening into dining room. That's where you keep your tableware ready to use and easy to put away. I'd definitely want a dishwasher even a slimline, in that peninsula.

I think the electric for the oven is on the other side but I may have a go and draw it out

here is one possible version

S = sink
U = upstand / half height wall between the sink and the living room. If you don't have this, stuff will fall off the back of the sink onto your chair / sofa / living room area and all the washing up will always be visible.

H = hob
O = oven
N = narrow tall cupboard (for brooms etc).
All 3 of these in a straight line along the wall.

on the opposite wall, I've put
T (tall cupboard, probably food pantry. It can have pull-out wire drawers inside if you don't like shelves).

F = fridge/freezer.
B = bookshelf or shallow cupboard. I'd have a bookshelf for cookbooks / decorative objects, but given the cat you might rather have a shallow cupboard with doors. Shallow will deal with the odd wall shape and make the whole space feel wider.

the second picture is for the ceiling height issue. I've got the oven (O) and narrow cupboard (N) in the corner. then the 3 high units. The two at the sides can be normal height, as determined by the low ceiling. the middle one can be smaller (SC) and set at an intermediate height. It will be good to have more air-space above the hob for this one. Then get your kitchen fitter to close off all the space above the cupboards (messy orange line) with a board cut to size and painted to match (either cupboard colour or ceiling colour), so it will all look neat.

I've tried @MenaiMna version

D is the dishwasher and the x is the drawers

on the other side the alcove/chimney bresy causes misalignment and im not sure about having the appliance garages so close to the oven
