How to dispose of old pine doors?

Happydaze2 · 09/01/2023 20:50

I’m replacing 9 internal pine doors which are in good condition but much as I’m loath to just dump them they have been planed/cut to size so I’m assuming they’re no good to anyone else. Should I just have them sawn to manageable pieces and take them to the local recycling centre - or is there another/ better way?

We put ours on Facebook marketplace and people were desperate for them! Even a guy who came to collect something else saw the doors and asked if he could have one.

Put them on a local selling site for free maybe with the measurements

Your local reclamation yard mght come and get them, don't chop them up they're worth money if original?

JaninaDuszejko · 09/01/2023 20:56

How old are they? Would a reclaimation yard be interested in them? Otherwise freecycle or facebook marketplace would be the obvious choices.

BellaRagazza · 09/01/2023 20:57

I put mine on eBay and sold them for £1 but someone collected and reused them 😊

Advertise then on Freecycle or similar.

Is there a reclamation centre near you? The one near me with jump all over that!

Your local college may take them off your hands for student decorators to practice their glossing skills on.

LubaLuca · 09/01/2023 21:02

Put them on your local Facebook page as free for collection. Someone can probably use some or all of them for something.

There are wood reclamation yards near me can you see if you have any? Or Facebook marketplace for free? Although it can be a bit of a nightmare!

You could try your local college if they have a painting and decorating course. Great for their students to practice on.

Are they Victorian pine doors? If so I would stick them in free ads first, furniture restorer may be interested or someone restoring an old house with original features. Have a look on eBay, there’s a variety for sale and you can pitch a price from them.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 09/01/2023 21:03

Freecycle

Facebook Marketplace

Someone may have a use

rwalker · 09/01/2023 21:04

Facebook definitely. I had some, they were gone within the hour. Just said I was leaving them outside my house at this address. Saved such a lot of faff.

RM2013 · 10/01/2023 00:15

Definitely FB marketplace I’ve managed to get rid of loads of stuff on there

Now that is recycling. Genius.

Happydaze2 · 10/01/2023 16:48

Thanks for all your tips. They’re only about 18 years old so neither Victorian nor “original” in the desirable sense! No reclamation place nearby and doubtful they’d want them anyway tbh. Local colleges don’t run painting/decorating courses either unfortunately and I can see that similar listings on my local freecycle group haven’t been successful. So I might have to go down the FB marketplace route though not wanting the hassle tbh…
