Evelyn Waughs house is up for sale. However, you can't view it as current tenants (who pay £250pa) won't let anyone in.

I wonder if it looks like the photos anymore!

Generous with other people's money perhaps!
a grifter with a posh voice....bit like B Johnson?

TwoMonthsOff · 13/12/2022 21:26

I used to work in a secured loans company and saw the deeds of a house that used to belong to Stanley Kubrick - it was so interesting but none of my colleagues thought so.

bankruptbillionaire · 13/12/2022 21:32

@Starseeking
Well, he was generous with it when he had it!

And not posh at all -very ordinary Scottish accent.

rainingsnoring · 13/12/2022 21:47

Beautiful house but not terribly tempting for a prospective buyer under the circumstances.

Might watch the auction on Thursday and see if it sells!

Do update us with all the details - not just the sale price!!! How many bidders and any exciting snippets from the auctioneer.

Does he rattle about there alone @bankruptbillionaire or has he got family who are about to find a significant drop in their living standards?

My sister lived just down the road from a man who annihilated his family, horses, dogs and himself as well as burning down the house the night before the bailiffs were due. He also was generous and liked to flash the cash when he had it.

I remember that. Had they been to a BBQ at a neighbours house just before he shot everyone?

Soothsayer1 · 13/12/2022 23:39

I remember that
me too😥 Wasn't there a documentary?
Chilling beyond belief, I couldn't really process it at the time...we didn't have much insight as to the profile of the family annihilator
terrifying to see what a person is capable of when backed into a corner

Wingedharpy · 14/12/2022 01:26

How do people who live like this sleep at night?
I would get no pleasure whatsoever living or staying in these fancy pants places, knowing that I couldn't afford it.
I'd rather live in a static caravan and stay in a Premier Inn with a clear conscience.
Peace of mind is priceless IMHO.
Some folk must just be wired differently.

Wow! EW wins Mumsnet’s most generous gift from your in laws thread!

It’s beautiful. I’d be happy living in the coach house alone.

PutYourBackIntoit · 14/12/2022 06:12

Beautiful area, know it v well. Would love to live there and would be happy to pay more than £250 pa 😁

MorrisZapp · 14/12/2022 06:26

Absolutely love this. Circles and circles of British insanity.

CoffeeBoy · 14/12/2022 07:40

Does sound like it’s a friend of his. She used to be on the board of trustees

Ooops, xposted with @SollaSollew there

This is fascinating. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the end.

Vermin · 14/12/2022 08:37

@bankruptbillionaire - I crossed paths with him professionally; could never possibly have seen all this shit going on in the background! He was a mid ranking not massively impressive exec - where t f did it all pivot into 8 months at the Mandarin oriental and multiple shell companies?!!

bankruptbillionaire · 14/12/2022 08:54

Property development seems to be largely where the money came from - I assume a house of cards which toppled once some investments weren't forthcoming?

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 14/12/2022 08:54

Can the tenants actually be evicted? I mean, does it get to a stage where bailiffs can go in and move them out or does the tenancy they’re on mean they can’t be?

bluelavender · 14/12/2022 11:23

It might get very complicated if there is not a fixed end date to their Common Law tenancy- or even worse; if its a verbal agreement!

Yes they can give notice and evict as long as they don’t accept money. As it’s a rolling six months they just give notice at rhe appropriate time and then they can do the whole bailiffs thing if they don’t go

No it says it’s a rolling six months

MercyChant66 · 14/12/2022 12:01

Completely off the point but as I think JK Rowling has Gloucestershire connections, she probably borrowed the name Dursley from here?!
