Viewed a house with a Renoir on the wall..

I went to view a property today, the house has been left to a charity and it's the charity that are the vendors.
The agents are useless so I'd put nothing past them HOWEVER

There was a Renoir on the wall, an original painting signed. It looked a typical Renoir. I was curious so took it off the wall to look on the back (I love Fake and Fortune!) and it has gallery exhibition stickers on it dating from the 1800's.

Downstairs there is also a Hemy original sea scape which is also potentially valuable.

Am I being incredibly naïve in thinking these could be originals and no one has noticed???????

Go back, put them in your handbag and never tell a soul! 😂

purplepencilcase · 26/11/2022 14:56

I wanted to put them under the bed and buy the house immediately but my husband wouldn't let me!!!😂

If its all been left to a charity then contact fake or fortune to investigate, could be more money for the charity. A signed Renoir with an exhibution label could still be fake. My conscience is to let the charity know.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 26/11/2022 15:04

The house is probably worth a lot less than the Renoir, altho if it's a genuine one I'm amazed they've left it there and haven't whisked it off somewhere safe.

How much was the house?

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 26/11/2022 17:40

Where was it?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 26/11/2022 18:17

Quickly, go back and take a photograph of the paintings (and the back of them) in their position, include the background of door frames etc. to ensure you photographed them where they actually are.
Many phones will record in the details the actual location a photo is taken.

They could 'disappear' if someone else spots them...

Do it quickly...!

Or better still speak to the agent or the charity

The agent may say 'what paintings?'

£450k but a complete wreck

Speak to the charity.

Fleur405 · 26/11/2022 19:01

Tell the charity surely? They can get them valued. They will also need to be insured. They wouldn’t usually leave such things after sale so there is no benefit to you to keeping the information to yourself.

Iflyaway · 26/11/2022 19:08

£450k but a complete wreck

Yep. And a Renoir on the wall?!
Oh, purlease...

😅

PriamFarrl · 26/11/2022 19:32

Is it on Rightmove? Can you see it in the pictures?

splatfrog · 26/11/2022 20:48

Very likely to be fakes unless there's an interesting family story. I met someone locally who has a Matisse in the hall and a Lowry in the dining room. I was Shock

Well that's getting robbed. Well done op!!!

Changechangychange · 26/11/2022 22:35

Wrong house? That isn’t a wreck, or £450k…

MetellaInHortoEst · 26/11/2022 22:36

That is not a wreck.

Its already sold.

Why are you posting the whereabouts of what you believe to be valuable paintings?

😵‍💫

ChessieDarling · 26/11/2022 22:41

Not a wreck, not £450k and not still for sale… okay then 🤔

KaleToChristmas · 26/11/2022 22:41

Wow, forget the art - what a stunning location.

PriamFarrl · 26/11/2022 22:43

Your idea of a wreck and mine are somewhat at odds I feel.

HappyHamsters · 26/11/2022 22:46

Not 450l
Not a wreck
Sold

Very irresponsible to post the link if you really think there's a valuable painting there

Roundandnour · 26/11/2022 22:47

😂 a wreck.
Although to some old houses are considered a wreck and destroy the character of the house.
