'Waste management' site. A big one. Skips are hired out to building sites and domestic customers and returned and sorted at the site. Inert things like rubble and plastic.

We've seen a house that looks ideal but did a Google map satellite view and the site is right next to it. Is it even worth viewing?

Definitely not.
Can you imagine the pollutants in the air and the noise?
Look further afield

Jas5mum · 16/10/2022 23:43

No as it would be too noisy for me.
I have issues with cars beeping and dogs barking from 7am onwards in the estate I live in now. I know from when my OH worked for biffa they start work at 6am...

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 16/10/2022 23:45

I wouldn't. We lived 200m across the road from one for 18 months. Jesus Christ the noise when they were tipping things out of big containers! Next to it would be so much worse.

BeginningBridge · 16/10/2022 23:46

The smell in summer would be awful too.

Sunflower987 · 16/10/2022 23:48

It's a No from me.

RoxieLoxy · 16/10/2022 23:49

Argh dammit! Classic case of a gorgeous house in a bad location then!

Do you think it would smell if it's only non food waste? Although I guess some customers might chuck anything in. There could be a fair bit of dust as the skips are emptied but it looks like there are lots of trees along the boundary (clutching at straws here 🤣🤣).

RoxieLoxy · 16/10/2022 23:50

Sorry name changed. I'm the OP 🙂

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/10/2022 23:51

No. Don’t be daft.

2ManyPjs · 16/10/2022 23:52

Apart from all the reasons listed already, it would be hard for you to sell if you wanted to move.

AriettyHomily · 16/10/2022 23:52

No way.

TootMootZoot · 16/10/2022 23:52

Never

Aquamarine1029 · 16/10/2022 23:53

Absolutely not. You'd have to be crazy.

DismantledKing · 16/10/2022 23:54

Nope. These places also have a habit of catching fire.

Undertheoldlindentree · 16/10/2022 23:56

No, don't view,if it's lovely, you'll only upset yourself more.

GreenManalishi · 16/10/2022 23:58

Unless I had no other choice whatsoever, no.

RoxieLoxy · 16/10/2022 23:58

Eek ok....wondered if I was being over fussy but sounds like it's definitely best avoided. Thanks for the replies 🙂

isntthisabitodd · 16/10/2022 23:59

It would have to be ridiculously cheap for me to even consider it!

You'll struggle to sell it on afterwards too!

chronictonic · 17/10/2022 00:01

No such thing as free lunch...

Feetache · 17/10/2022 00:01

The location will be reflected in the price. The type of waste massively effects the impact. The smell depends on type of site. Some don't smell at all.The site will have operating hours so if you are out 8-6 you may not hear anything. Might operate at weekends tho. ( I work in the industry. )

PickAChew · 17/10/2022 00:03

No chance. The noise. The smell. The dickhead parking...

RoxieLoxy · 17/10/2022 00:09

@Feetache (I'm the OP) - would pollution be an issue if it's mainly building materials? Also green waste, soil, cardboard, furniture and plastics (looked at their website). I'd worry about asbestos dust though - how would they know it's in there until they've tipped out the skips.

I think I won't bother now anyway as can see there are enough very good reasons not to, but it would be pollution that would worry me most. Noise and stuff I might be able to put up with if the hours of work are restricted.

unfunnytopicalusername · 17/10/2022 00:16

Smell wouldn't be an issue unless it's a specialist site, pollution shouldn't be an issue, but... But noise would be. It's up to you how much noise you can take, not just think you can take but can actually bear.

garlictwist · 17/10/2022 06:27

I live near a tip. Up a big steep hill that overlooks it. We can't see it because of the trees but can hear it, especially when they're tipping glass etc. However it's only during the day so not that bad.

CrispyNoodles · 17/10/2022 06:28

No way.

PrioritiseCalm · 17/10/2022 06:29

No.
