Neighbour building bar at bottom of the garden

Hello, the neighbour who backs onto our garden is planning on building a bar/free standing building at the bottom of their garden.

We have expressed to them in writing that we wish to understand how they will use this space and also, our thoughts and worries re noise. We are aware that it is their right to build this structure under the rules of planned development.

We're going to ask to see the plans for this build and fully-understand how close to our boundary they will be building.

Do you have any further insights/considerations/suggestions for questions we need to ask?

Thank you very much in advance!

I agree with a pp, if they were all night ravers or bad noisy neighbours, you'd probably already know about it.

My neighbours opposite whose garden I can see in to have a bar room in the garden. They use it most nights in the summer and honestly, we can't hear them. They've had a few parties with music until about 11am but it's not loud.

I wouldn't worry if I was you. Send your letter if you have concerns but don't think the worst.

Actually... all the best to you too 😊

I was not sure what else to say, and as a few responses were heated I thought some positivity may help

It seems to be a bit of fashion to build a bar in the garden since the lockdown. I know quite a few people with "bars" aka grooved up lean to areas or sheds or summer houses. A bit of a place to sit , drinks etc. Fairy lights and a funny sign.

But none of them are really running " a bar". It sounds a lot worse than it probably is.

10 metres isn’t close at all. I think you’re overstepping here and need to back off.

Stop being nosey

I’m with you op. I’d be very twitchy.

For this exact reason we sold our last house, it was unbearable

You can't really do anything op. If once it's built you get lots of noise from parties etc next summer that you really can't live with, I'd just be looking to move somewhere with less potential neighbour issues.
On the bright side, most garden 'bars' end up being turned back into sheds once the novelty has worn off.
