We have recently moved house and have a fireplace in the lounge.
I am trying to work out if it is original or not.

Anyone good at dating fireplaces?

I am deliberately not revealing the age of the house...

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/08/2022 18:19

Not a style with which I am familiar, but I'd guess 1950's-1960's.

EducatingArti · 10/08/2022 18:20

I'd say 1980s too.

Spanielsarepainless · 10/08/2022 18:22

My grandparents had an identical one. 1940s to early 1950s.

alloutofcareunits · 10/08/2022 18:23

My aunt and uncle had one like this, I've a photo of my cousins as toddlers sitting on the little steps either side. I'd say late 70s early 80s as they're in their early 40/ now

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/08/2022 18:23

I remember using that tile paint in the 80s!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/08/2022 18:24

There was one in a relatives 1930s house.

ednatheevilwitch · 10/08/2022 18:24

I'm guessing 1940/1950s based on the quarry tiles

Violinist64 · 10/08/2022 18:25

Seventies or eighties.

CharlotteSt · 10/08/2022 18:25

1920s although I'm not sure about the shelves.

Hmmph · 10/08/2022 18:25

A couple more pics of the brickwork and metal bits holding up the arch

I’m not recommending that you do this, but we took our (not original) fire surround off the wall and there was a piece of paper with the date (1934) on the back!

I think yours is a bit more recent, probably mid 20th century.

redYellowandblue · 10/08/2022 18:26

It is 1930s-1950s

How old is the house?

SwedishEdith · 10/08/2022 18:28

Late 1950s

Tree543 · 10/08/2022 18:28

I thought 1980s as well

bloodywhitecat · 10/08/2022 18:28

I'd go 80's too, done to look Olde Worlde.

Soontobe60 · 10/08/2022 18:28

1980s

ClaudineClare · 10/08/2022 18:29

1980s, even if the house is older.

Mooloofoo · 10/08/2022 18:30

I might be completely wrong, but I think it’s more modern. Maybe the 90s. The shape and texture of the brick looks new and the metal work makes me think more modern. The grout looks very new too. I know it’s indoors, but it looks too chunky to be 40s or 50s.

Icedlatteplease · 10/08/2022 18:32

I'd go modern. Probably with reclaimed tiles

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/08/2022 18:32

It's very clean, isn't it? If you can find out how they did that, I'd be happy to know. <glances at 70's job in the livingroom>

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 10/08/2022 18:33

1950s
