Mid 40’s couple
£975k can stretch to 1.1 but it would really need to be wow
Always rented and chose location over property. We’ve lived in some right shit holes but didn’t care as the areas were just fantastic but thinking we now need to be more adult and less dossing students!
Min 2 bedrooms
Diverse area (Asian/African couple)
Not really bothered by outside space if there’s a park nearby
Max 15 minute walking distance to transport and supermarkets
Easy access to either Gatwick or Heathrow as one us travels a lot for work.

If the above described you, where would you choose to live?

Also would prefer to be close to a tube rather than national rail

Maids Vale. You’ll get a nice flat for that money.

Decidualcast · 30/07/2022 12:56

Maida Vale. Sorry.

snowspider · 30/07/2022 13:02

Ealing

Maymaymay · 30/07/2022 13:12

Camden or Notting Hill maybe? Maybe Shoreditch.

hattie43 · 30/07/2022 13:14

I was going to say Muswell Hill until I saw the tube requirement.
Camden is very buzzy , vibrant , cafe culture but I love Crouch End or Hampstead

Covent Garden? Really accessible via Holborn and Covent Garden tube, really diverse and loads going on

It would be out of budget - generally £1.5m for a 2-bed though this is on for £1.3m, on a quiet street in a portered block on the wrong side of the Strand:

Northcote Road area

Clambering · 30/07/2022 17:37

How about Highbury? Some lovely maisonettes there, near Victoria & Piccadilly lines for both airports.

Clissold Park and Highbury Fields for green spaces. I think you'd find something within budget.

Cyberworrier · 30/07/2022 17:40

I agree with Clambering that Islington might suit you- either Highbury or Angel tube, easy to get to Victoria and London Bridge, fairly easy to Paddington. You can get Thameslink from Kings Cross or Farringdon direct to Gatwick.
Lovely buzzy area and typically diverse London mix of people. Can walk to Covent Garden or wherever at the weekend.

JustAnotherManicTuesday · 30/07/2022 18:34

Thank you 😊Angel is actually top of our list. We lived there for a couple months about 8 years ago but moved away due to work. I don’t why we hadn’t thought of Highbury even though it’s just up the road.

We want busy but not impossible to walk around busy, while we love Notting Hill we found it can be a mission just to pop out for a coffee or go to a pub.

If you need to be getting to Gatwick and Heathrow I’d want to be south west. Echo northcote road area.

Blackbird2020 · 30/07/2022 21:32

Barbican!

World class cultural centre on your doorstep, massive library, residents-only green spaces, all blocks have a 24hr porter, a real mix of (usually lovely!) neighbours, waitrose a 5 min walk away (at most), and the queen Elizabeth line on your doorstep. Plus walking distance to pretty much anywhere in central London.

Cyberworrier · 30/07/2022 21:36

SW isn't great for Heathrow unless you use taxis or drive! I live near Northcote Road. Great for Gatwick via Clapham junction less so for Heathrow.

Blackbird2020 · 30/07/2022 21:37

You can get a 2 bed for around £950k (and you could probably negotiate down given the slowing market).

cakeandwine · 30/07/2022 21:37

Ealing. West Ealing. Hanwell.

Cyberworrier · 30/07/2022 21:39

This is a lovely location in angel

Quirky layout but lots of potential and great location too

Balham or clapham.

HerculesMulligan · 30/07/2022 21:42

I love the Northcote Road area, and lived there for 5 years, but it's 45 mins or more by train from Gatwick and an absolute pain in the arse to get to from Heathrow.

Ealing is your best bet, OP, I'd think.

VeryQuaintIrene · 30/07/2022 21:45

North Ealing - on a good day, Heathrow is 20 minutes away by car and the Pitshanger Lane area has an award-winning high street.

AtillatheHun · 30/07/2022 21:50

+1 for Maida Vale. Short walk to Westbourne grove / Notting hill, Paddington rec and Regent’s Park plus the canal for outside space. One tube stop to Paddington for the Heathrow express or Elizabeth line. God’s own postcode.

PimmsOfCourse · 31/07/2022 00:36

Baywater is not as busy as Notting Hill and its so lovely being by Hyde Park. Loads of different restaurants and good connections to Heathrow via Paddington

dreamingbohemian · 31/07/2022 00:51

Brixton / Herne Hill
