New kitchen installed - am I expecting too much

We had a new kitchen installed about a month ago although the splashbacks were only fitted a week ago so it'sbeen ongoing. It's from Nobilia from a local company. The cupboards have a gloss finish.

We noticed one cupboard had a noticeable bubble. The company will provide a new one. We have had a good look round today and noticed a couple more small ones, pics enclosed. This was not a cheap kitchen but we spent more because we thought we were getting a better quality product. Tbh we feel a bit blue now, should we have just gone for cheaper? Am I being over picky?

Also the gloss has scratched in a couple of places. We have only used the kitchen for cooking simple meals. We must have caught it but I thought it would be more hard wearing than that. As the splashbacks were only fitted a week ago we haven't even really unpacked all our stuff yet because it didn't feel finished. I can't get a decent photo of the scratch, my camera phone won't focus on it.

Any thoughts?

I can't make out any bubbles in your pictures, can you circle where they are?

Plastichanger · 24/07/2022 11:10

sorry if this is a bit obvious but when we received our high gloss finished kitchen the doors all had a clear protective film over them which we had to remove after all the other work was done and kitchen fully installed - could it be that?

Candleabra · 24/07/2022 11:11

I was also going to say is it the protective film?
If not, then no that’s not acceptable (re: quality)

Trixie4577864 · 24/07/2022 11:15

Thanks - pics with mark ups.

It's not the protective film. The fitter finished about a month ago and the last thing he did was take the film off. The worktops and splashbacks came after, over the last few weeks, hence it all still feeling new.

I don't mind of people think I'm being over-picky, I need some perspective. There have been so many snags.

I would definitely complain. Nobilia
are far from cheap and I would expect them to last a good while longer than a few weeks

Plastichanger · 24/07/2022 11:27

If it’s not the protective film then I don’t think you are being picky at all.

Me neither

dudsville · 24/07/2022 12:23

Do what you need to feel ok with it, but I still can't see it. I don't have the best eyesight!

FlamingMadKatie · 24/07/2022 12:26

We had gloss units from Wren 8.5 years ago. Not expensive at all, super quality, still immaculate. Definitely complain.

catwomando · 24/07/2022 12:27

Yep, definitely dodgy.

I'd ask for replacement of the affected doors and check all of them in detail -could be a faulty batch.

Isseywith3witchycats · 24/07/2022 13:06

my DIY kitchen high gloss cupboards havent bubbled a year after been installed even if the bubbles are tiny they are there and you know they are and they will become an obsession

ChateauMargaux · 24/07/2022 17:25

I can see the bubbles.. I would be annoyed.

Calmdown14 · 24/07/2022 17:34

I wouldn't expect you to be seeing bubbles or scratches.

Raise your concerns. You can do it politely (to start with).

Don't put it off and let it irk you forever.
Perhaps they were stored incorrectly before fitting or as someone suggested a faulty batch.
Replacing doors is not a big deal if done now. If you don't raise it you run the risk it gets worse in two years time and they've stopped making that range

Trixie4577864 · 24/07/2022 19:01

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the replies. If you lightly run your fingers over the doors you can feel it's not flat. I've found some more on a drawer.

The bubbles are small and this is the first kitchen I've ever bought so all new to me. But I really wanted it to keep looking new for a while yet. I'm normally a positive person but starting to feel regretful.

It's your money, if you're not happy, ask for it to be put right.

NewHouseNewMe · 24/07/2022 19:30

This is definitely not on. You’re well within your rights to complain especially as you’ve barely used the kitchen.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 24/07/2022 19:55

That is shocking. Ring up and speak to a manager and if no luck write all down and send a letter. Take photos and keep copies and if that fails take to a small claims court. You should get what you paid for and that is not acceptable at all. You paid for a new kitchen and it should just be that and not have bubbles. Do not let it go and get it sorted now. They will have to replace them simple as that. Keep us updated and hope it gets fixed soon.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 24/07/2022 19:56

It could also be the intense heat that caused that when they were doing them so they will have to be replaced.

NauseousNancy · 24/07/2022 19:58

My cupboards had the blue protective coating, and then another clear layer as well.

I complained to the kitchen fitter who came and peeled it all off!

userxx · 24/07/2022 20:07

You'll be forever looking at those bubbles. I'd want it to be replaced.

Themarriediaries · 24/07/2022 20:21

If this is what it’s like after a month, imagine what it will be like in a year.
a kitchen is a so expensive I would not be happy at all

Jolinar · 24/07/2022 20:40

Yes, definitely right.

perfectstorm · 25/07/2022 12:02

We had an inexpensive gloss kitchen fitted in a new house in 2005. The people we sold it to in 2009 still had the same kitchen when they sold it last year (tiling, worktops, the lot) and it was talked up as bright and clean and a great kitchen in the particulars.

When we sold it looked the same as it did the day it was fitted.

What you describe is appalling and you would have every right to insist they come back in and redo it. And if the same happened again you'd also be within your rights to ask for new, different doors.

Kitchens are horrifically expensive. You'd not accept a new car where the paintwork did this at the start, and this is no different.

MaggieFS · 25/07/2022 12:11

If you're not happy get it sorted now while you still can or it will niggle at you forever she easy looking at the bastard puddle on the not flat patio
