...is this where architecture is just now?

Posh house, looks like a shed.

If I had 5 mil to play with I’d want something that was actually attractive and in a nice setting. I’m sure 2 mins on Rightmove would turn up with some amazing places compared to that.

TwoMonthsOff · 23/07/2022 18:00

@autumnboys
yes very -even the tree shadows, they thought of everything 😭
the thread about the chesil cliff house from grand designs is apparently ‘3d renders’ interiors - had me fooled !

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/07/2022 18:04

It looks like a council run leisure centre.

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 18:19

Still, at least it isn't about to fall into the sea...

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/07/2022 19:07

This is a typical unit in the local business/light industrial area near me, they were built in the 1980s I think. Looks very similar to the luxury home. Grin

Not sure I'd want to see my garage from my pool tbh

Lunaballoon · 23/07/2022 19:17

Not sure what’s more shocking, the hideousness or the price tag! 😲

Wheretheskyisblue · 23/07/2022 19:22

It Is almost the size of a distribution centre at 28,000 sq ft. The kitchen is over 60 ft long.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 23/07/2022 19:32

The only way to get to bedroom 6 seems to be through bedroom 5 downstairs. There must have been a better layout possible. I guess with a private pool I could grow to tollerate it.

ozymandiusking · 23/07/2022 19:38

It's HIDEOUS!

TwoMonthsOff · 23/07/2022 19:39

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar
it so does, I think it was the architects ‘inspiration’

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 23/07/2022 19:43

I think that was on Grand Designs - bloke in wheelchair, split up with his wife half way through the build.

SolasAnla · 23/07/2022 19:58

The brick and warehouse metal could be swapped out for sleek metal or wood to look proper barn like

But the ugly internal layout needs a total redesign. It looks as if it could be subdivided into little bedsit mini appartments which would make it more affordable 😁

fyn · 23/07/2022 20:03

Presumably it’s a Class Q permitted development where they have to keep the original structure and materials without a large amount of deviation.

Mobberley is also expensive anyway! Its right around in the Golden Triangle, definite footballer territory. I’m almost certain this area is one of the most expensive places in the North.

Wombat27A · 23/07/2022 20:04

I am glad I wasn't being old-fashioned. I don't mind black barns in places like Norfolk but this is ridiculous.

And pricy!

Are we sure it’s not a conversion? The images being mock ups could be because it is indeed an industrial building they are converting to a home. Even the inside screams conversion to me.

Wombat27A · 23/07/2022 20:10

I assumed it was aimed at footballers but it is pug-ugly.

It'd make more sense to demolish and rebuild if that was the case, surely?

fyn · 23/07/2022 20:15

@Ponderingwindow it must be, the land registry plan has a building already showing.

@girlmom21 demolishing it and rebuilding would be a lengthy and costly planning process. Barn conversions can be completed under permitted development rights quite easily in comparison.

Wombat27A · 23/07/2022 20:16

Proposed demolition of existing equestrian

stables and other commercial buildings (former

car sales) and re-development to provide 4 new

residential dwelling houses and part demolition

and conversion of existing riding arena to form a

new dwellinghouse.

YARWOOD HOUSE FARM, WOOD LANE,

MOBBERLEY, CHESHIRE, WA16 7NJ

Think it might be this. Local parish council objected citing over-development.

Most irritated at the fact that they've misspelt bridle path as 'bridal path' in the description

<misses point>

You can get to bedroom 6 by coming in the external door (lower on the plan than bedroom 5) then up the stairs. It's like a little mini-house, where the master bedroom has access to a bigger one.

Not certain of the thinking around this. Staff-and-their-family accommodation?

Pearmain · 23/07/2022 20:33

Are people who live in these sorts of places actually comfortable? Where do you put your feet up? Where do you put your mug of tea and the book you’re reading? How do you feel cosy when the wind is howling outside and the rain lashing the windows?

I thought that, then I spotted the cinema room ( yippee!) it’s basically a boys toys house. Where’s the utility room? Where’s the walk in larder/ wine store. Too many bathrooms, too many kitchens ( I counted three) and a room that is labelled en-suite but isn’t en-suite to anything…… maybe that could be the wine store, or a library……..

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/07/2022 20:57

I'm told that Ray Charles thought that the ambiance was very nice.
