Hello, I’ve read the reviews on this and it looks good. Apart from noise. Can you hear it? I except noise when it’s being used, like you would a kettle, but not when it’s just sitting waiting! Many thanks

We have a Quooker and it doenst make any noise. Not that I can hear anyway and I sit at the other end of the room working most days.

Pinkclara1 · 06/01/2023 09:52

Thank you. My friend has a quooker, and it’s quiet too. I was hoping to avoid the cost of a quooker, and wondered if the Etal tap from screwfix would be a cheaper alternative. I’m concerned that it’s noisy though.

Stunningscreamer · 06/01/2023 09:58

I absolutely love my Quooker. It's not just making tea, it also speeds up boiling pasta, veg etc. I use it multiple times a day every day.

IwishIwasSupermum · 06/01/2023 10:06

We have a Hotspot, still expensive but worth it, wouldn’t be without it. Aftercare customer service has been excellent, our plumber didn’t fit it correctly and assured us he had, Hotspot sent their engineer to sort out at no cost to us or the plumber.

Had my quooker for 14 years. I love it. No one has ever accidentally turned it on (and i have lots of people coming through the house). Ive had the cartridge changed once in that time (london hard water) and its been brillianh. It gets so much use i cannot imagine not having one. Definitelty worth the investment.

Surely you need it more often than that? Doesn't the tea get scummy? We change ours about every 8 months. We had to have it mended recently (£400) & the Quooker chap said every two years but the tea would be horrid. Friends have one that tells them when they need a new filter & it's about every 3 months (home counties hard water but not as hard as some!).
Having said that, we love it & wouldn't be without it, 7 years in.

Chillyallday · 06/01/2023 10:32

We have the Fohen and it’s brilliant! Not just for hot drinks but for pasta etc - no more boiling kettles and not having enough water to cover the pasta/ potatoes

GasPanic · 06/01/2023 14:10

Lol. So for the "life changing" experience of never have to boil a kettle again you have to pay £1500 plus the servicing costs.

Load of rubbish you ask me. I put the kettle on, then there is the faffing of getting the milk and teabags and cups, by the time everything is ready the kettle is boiled. And the kettle is 100x less expensive to buy.

You could boil a kettle 30,000x for £1500, thats about 8x a day for 10 years.

I guess if you were making industrial quantities of tea these are worth it. I think middle class gimmick otherwise.

Pinkclara1 · 06/01/2023 14:10

Thanks! I’m trying to keep costs down as I spent a rather stupid amount on an everhot cooker and it has so far been a complete waste of money 🙄. I’m struggling to convince my husband that an expensive hot water tap won’t be another mistake! But I really appreciate your input,👍

ThalhavaraGoter · 06/01/2023 14:32

My Insinkerator one sounded like a plane was in the sky nearby my Quooker is silent. I never hear it heating up I only know because the ring lights up on the tap.

I would never describe it as a gimmick, it is something I have used every day, several times a day for the last 10 years. It is used for cups of tea, filling a pan with water for veg or pasta and the best thing about the Quooker is you can turn on the tap and then also activate the boiling water ring to get incredibly hot water to wash something up. We don't have a filter as we don't live in a hard water area.

@Pinkclara1 why has the Everhot been a waste of money? In terms of practicality? I don't have one although they are very beautiful.

Pinkclara1 · 06/01/2023 19:30

I definitely think we’d get loads of use from a boiling water tap. I definitely don’t want any noise, so would pay more to avoid that.

The Everhot was a lockdown purchase, encouraged by a work colleague who sung the praises of theirs. They’ve now moved house and left the Everhot behind and won’t be replacing it. They admitted it was very uneconomical and didn’t cook all that well. I’m finding it’s very expensive to run, and unless you slow roast and bake all day, I can’t see how you can get the use of it. I feel guilty when the oven’s been on all day and all I want is a quick stir fry. I then have to wait for the hot plate to heat up to be hot enough to stir fry. Nothing is instant. It’s suited to someone who plans a lot and enjoys slow cooking. I guess I’m a bit more last minute! Hence the hot water tap! I must say though, it is incredibly beautiful, and soooo well built. When it arrived, it was like a rolls Royce had parked in the kitchen. So I guess the problems are mine, not the Everhots!

Hopeandglory · 06/01/2023 22:31

I have a quettle, not had a problem with it, water is 100 degrees and very quiet. Several other friends have also gone for them and not heard of any problems

Cassimin · 15/01/2023 11:46

Can anyone tell me which ones are noisy and are they constantly noisy or just when in use?
we have a very open plan house so wouldn’t want the telly to be drowned out while I’m having a cuppa!

BarrelOfOtters · 15/01/2023 19:11

Ours isn’t noisy at all.

BarrelOfOtters · 15/01/2023 19:11

We’ve got a qooker and it’s silent.

Cookerhood · 15/01/2023 19:16

Our quooker is silent, other then when you are actually filling a cup/pan.

claireb7rg · 15/01/2023 19:29

We have a franke 4 in 1 (100 degree boiling and cold filtered water and normal hot and cold) and we love it. Had it 3 years and wouldn't go back to a normal tap and kettle now

ILoveCreamCrackersMe · 27/07/2022 09:53

They're definitely more convenient, but don't kid yourself they're more efficient cost wise.

The upfront cost and constant heating (even if that is 3p per day) still takes around a lifetime to even out. You gain worktop space but lose a cupboard.

They're pretty safe and easy to use (been using various ones for years), the only downside is the ones I use at work are forever being serviced and it of use.

For me, they're not worth the price just yet, good luck with whatever you do.

I agree with this, over their lifetime they work out considerably more expensive than a kettle even for high tea drinkers/kettle boilers.

I personally would rather invest in a decent induction hob which boils water rapidly than have to carry boiling saucepans across the room. I also don't drink much tea, use a coffee machine and value the space in my under sink cupboard and don't want to worry about their ongoing maintenance so it made sense not to bother.

I think though it you value convenience over cost and like lots of tea and fizzy water it might make more sense.

Sparklingblah · 15/01/2023 19:59

How does the sparkling water work - do you have to replace soda stream type canisters all the time?

Wheretheskyisblue · 15/01/2023 20:25

You buy CO2 cannisters for it which work out about 30p a litre.

TotallyDisco · 22/01/2023 14:32

We’ve had the ETAL tap for almost a year now. It’s not noisy on standby but there’s a slight churn sound when it’s replenishing? Can’t see how you’d avoid that but it doesn’t last long.

Really pleased with it for the cost (£300 plus fitting) as it doesn’t take up too much room below the sink and has worked well. The max temp is only 98° but that’s fine for our casual use and suited our budget.

Fenella123 · 22/01/2023 14:40

30p PER LITRE? Fizzy water costs less than that to buy outright!! Is that right?
