Inbuit or Amarican fridge for my kitchen

vik2017 · 26/06/2022 21:53

I am having my new kitchen done and have had the plan drawn up. One thing I am bit confused about is should I go with inbuilt or Amarical fridge (with surrounding units). Kitchen is going to cost (attached one) around 33k hence, wanted to make sure I get the best plan out of it.
Any suggestions will be appreciated 🙂

I'm not sure what you spending lots on your kitchen has to do with it - even people with more modest budgets like to choose carefully.

But either way, I'd go for freestanding, to lighten the colour.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2022 21:58

Where's the fridge going? There doesn't seem to be a natural space for it.

vik2017 · 26/06/2022 22:00

@Honaloulou mentioned the cost without thinking anything to be honest or may be I am bit excited 😊

@SoupDragon tall unit on the far right is inbuilt fridge at the moment and I was thinking should I get the Americal fridge in the middle surrounded with other units.

I'd go for a built in, personally but I'd rethink the layout. Having it in that unit on the right means you have to walk round the end of the island to get to it.

I have inbuilt medium sized kitchen. I do like the American free standing in the right sized kitchen

vik2017 · 26/06/2022 22:14

oops! got the wrong spelling, I meant American...

I’ve just had our 2 fridges built in. I think the look is more streamlined.

Does the £33k include the appliances? You don’t seem to be getting many units for that?

Where do the ovens go then?

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/06/2022 10:24

Integrated fridges, freezers and fridge freezers look the part, but are often smaller inside. Do you have space elsewhere for overflow if you need it?

letsplanaholiday · 27/06/2022 11:58

I splurged on my fridge freezer and I do t regret it in the slightest!

I went for American size in the French style and I love it! Looks great in the kitchen and has so much space!

I have this one...

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/fisher-paykel-series-7-rf540adux5-freestanding-70-30-french-fridge-freezer-stainless-steel/p5553577?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Measure the internal dimensions for the American fridge freezer, we just about cope with it but we do have a larder freezer elsewhere. The fridge is a little bit too small for us. We went for the American one as Dh wanted ice and water on tap and that was the best decision, but that was 9 years ago and 9 years ago the children were 10 and 7 and ate a hell of a lot less.

My sister has the Fisher one linked above. Personally now I would go for an integrated larder fridge and separate integrated larder freezer and then in the utility I would have an ice machine and a filter water tap. My children mainly drink iced water; the novelty of dispensing it from the freezer has never worn off.

Sitdowncupoftea · 27/06/2022 14:16

I have an American style fridge I prefer them. It depends I suppose in preference. I shop once a week as I live rural so need a big fridge.

Grumpybutfunny · 27/06/2022 14:26

Advantage of an American is the ice and water dispenser. If you just want the space a separate in built fridge and freezer would give you the space and look. I would think about putting more floor to ceiling units in as you have the island for prep work

Twizbe · 27/06/2022 14:28

I hate intergrated appliances. They are a pain to replace if they break. Or you can never match the door when the dishwasher damages the cupboard door.

Always go for freestanding.

SallyLockheart · 28/06/2022 06:08

And check running costs. The fisher one says £56 to run a year but that’s at 10p per kw of electric- so now about £150 p/a minimum

CrabbyCat · 28/06/2022 06:26

I have an American Fridge Freezer and love it. The key decider at the time was the internal space - it it was much bigger inside than any available integrated fridges at the time. What I've also come to love is having ice on tap, I've got used to being easily able to have iced drinks.

I picked a few models I was interested in and then went to Currys to look in store and see what I thought of them for real. Things like how much storage space there is really varies even between fridges of the same external dimensions.

Lakeowlmoon · 28/06/2022 06:33

I have a very similar layout and have an appliance wall with an American fridge in the middle and ovens and cupboards on either side. I paid £15k all in with Siemens appliances for a mid range German brand. You can get the same look cheaper.

TotallyDisco · 28/06/2022 06:36

I like the streamlined look of integrated but decided against for two reasons -

  • cost - the carcass to house the fridge freezer was £600ish itself plus appliance on top

  • space - as others have said, the internal space really varies

we have a French larder style american fridge/freezer and pleased with it. We cook from scratch most days so need the space for ingredients.

Another thing to note with American style FF- the depth can be more than you think. Ours has to protrude a bit to allow the doors to fully open (installed between two tower units). Our FF opens onto aisle space so it’s not a problem, but you wouldn’t want workbench or island opposite as it would be difficult to access.

Mosaic123 · 28/06/2022 08:37

The integrated ones can be very tall. I couldn't reach the top shelf of the fridge that came with my house.

Daisydoesnt · 28/06/2022 10:13

This!

Mariposa80 · 28/06/2022 11:24

We have an integrated tall fridge and an integrated tall freezer - so not a fridge freezer combined. This gives us more internal space than many American style fridge freezers.

vik2017 · 28/06/2022 20:28

indeed if I go with integrated one because American fridge will go in the middle with units surrounded.

@KittyKittyKat yes, all inclusive. Have had it designed and this is what they came up with, price and units.

@SoupDragon would be on the surrounded left unit
