Inbuit or Amarican fridge for my kitchen

I am having my new kitchen done and have had the plan drawn up. One thing I am bit confused about is should I go with inbuilt or Amarical fridge (with surrounding units). Kitchen is going to cost (attached one) around 33k hence, wanted to make sure I get the best plan out of it.
Any suggestions will be appreciated 🙂

Integrated fridges, freezers and fridge freezers look the part, but are often smaller inside. Do you have space elsewhere for overflow if you need it?

@Bluevelvetsofa cannot without compromising the kitchen layout hence, thought to have bigger one at the first place.

I splurged on my fridge freezer and I do t regret it in the slightest!

I went for American size in the French style and I love it! Looks great in the kitchen and has so much space!

I have this one...

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/fisher-paykel-series-7-rf540adux5-freestanding-70-30-french-fridge-freezer-stainless-steel/p5553577?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

@letsplanaholiday that's good to hear. I do like them but wasn't just sure

Measure the internal dimensions for the American fridge freezer, we just about cope with it but we do have a larder freezer elsewhere. The fridge is a little bit too small for us. We went for the American one as Dh wanted ice and water on tap and that was the best decision, but that was 9 years ago and 9 years ago the children were 10 and 7 and ate a hell of a lot less.

My sister has the Fisher one linked above. Personally now I would go for an integrated larder fridge and separate integrated larder freezer and then in the utility I would have an ice machine and a filter water tap. My children mainly drink iced water; the novelty of dispensing it from the freezer has never worn off.

@BenchOfCompany thanks 🙂

We were convinced we wanted American for our new kitchen but have ended up going for separate built in larder fridge and freezer, giving as much capacity as the American.

I have a very similar layout and have an appliance wall with an American fridge in the middle and ovens and cupboards on either side. I paid £15k all in with Siemens appliances for a mid range German brand. You can get the same look cheaper.

@Lakeowlmoon really? I would love to save some money...

I like the streamlined look of integrated but decided against for two reasons -

  • cost - the carcass to house the fridge freezer was £600ish itself plus appliance on top

  • space - as others have said, the internal space really varies

we have a French larder style american fridge/freezer and pleased with it. We cook from scratch most days so need the space for ingredients.

Another thing to note with American style FF- the depth can be more than you think. Ours has to protrude a bit to allow the doors to fully open (installed between two tower units). Our FF opens onto aisle space so it’s not a problem, but you wouldn’t want workbench or island opposite as it would be difficult to access.

@TotallyDisco good point and as other have mentioned, they can be nightmare if break...

My doors for the American FF do stick out past the carcass. Mine is banked either side with a larder unit and then a unit that goes over the top to build it in matches the height of the larder units.

A £600 carcass is just crazy money to me. My kitchen was Ikea. I didn't end up using a decor end panel for the larder unit which would fill the gap between the larder unit and the wall. My independent fitter said get that returned and get your £350 back. I told him it was only £50 and he was shocked. It is too easy to get carried away with kitchens.

Don't forget the plug sockets for appliances but make them in the next cupboard so they are accessible. For the FF mine is in the larder cupboard, easy to turn off the switch on the socket if needed.

Re: replacing if breaking. My brother had far more issues trying to find a replacement free standing fridge freezer to go in the gap where his old appliance was than my parents had replacing an inbuilt appliance. Integrated appliances are a standard size so I don't think it's more hassle to replace if they break. Especially if you're going for units built over as well as either side, so you have height and width to consider.
