Sorry about the meta data or whatever ever it is after the link.
Anyway what's your thoughts on the article? 😆

I’m doing ok! Just my washing machine on show but no other horrors and every one on the posh list!

Why did it make you smile ?
I do agree with the article , cannot think of anything worse than crushed velvet furniture and the mandatory “ home sweet home” sign ,usually on top of the mantle piece . A laundry room is mandatory in every house I lived in , washing machines should not be in kitchen full stop

Minimalme · 24/04/2022 20:23

All the things in the posh list require money, so no.

All the things on the cheap list, other than fridge magnets, are generally down to lack of money, so yes.

It's not rocket science but I admire the expert for taking the bleeding obvious and selling it on as a revelation.

SoggyPaper · 24/04/2022 20:30

I’ve got a utility room. Im not sure anyone cares whether they can see my washing machine.

Or that anyone gives much thought at all to being able to see your washing machine in your kitchen.

Tbh, in the whole U v non-U debate, I’m pretty sure that worrying about whether people think your furniture looks ‘cheap’ of not is on the non-U side anyway. It’s like advice aimed at the desperately aspirational but worried their roots might show group 🤣

The best advice for that group obviously is: it’s your house. Just have what you like in it. No one really cares if they can see your shower. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Isseywith3witchycats · 24/04/2022 20:56

apart from the washing machine on show (it is a silver coloured one though) i would love to see them fit a free standing bath in my five foot by six foot bathroom and get a toilet and sink in as well

SoggyPaper · 24/04/2022 21:01

Tbh, I worry about all the dust and filth that would accumulate and be hard to clean with a free standing bath. Especially in the kinds of pokey bathrooms you do often get!

Then there’s the weirdness of sticking a free standing, claw footed bath in a 90s build house. That doesn’t make it look ‘expensive’; it makes you look a bit bonkers.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 24/04/2022 21:02

Um. My washing machine’s in my utility room & I’m not into the Live Laugh Love stuff, but I’ve got magnets on the side of my microwave. Where does that fit in?

SoggyPaper · 24/04/2022 21:05

I’ve got an extremely useful magnet on my fridge that creates an A3 Whiteboard that I can use to write down things for my shopping list as I notice I need them.

I don’t care if it doesn’t meet her interior design standards. It’s useful.

DS3 likes to scribble on it, so it often looks messy too. But that’s what happens when you have kids in the house. 🤷🏻‍♀️

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/04/2022 21:08

Loads of people live in houses where the washing machine is in the kitchen because there's nowhere else for it to go.

TheCanyon · 24/04/2022 21:09

I'm cheap and common as fuck.

Washing machine on display. Plastic shower. Roller blinds in the dcs rooms. A Gdansk magnet on the fridge. And worst of all, at christmas my dad bought me a "everything is better in your pyjamas" sign that lives in my bedroom.

Trivester · 24/04/2022 21:13

I’m trying to work out the alternative to rollerblinds? Nets look very dated. Slatted blinds look like an office. Shutters are pretty but leave you with no light and no view.

Yes. She thinks they must all have integrated appliances lest their house looks ‘cheap’. 🙄

Because it's so judgemental that's why. And it was an article in the Sun 😆

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 25/04/2022 00:45

Haha well I don't have any of the 'cheap' things yet I'm tight as fuck and certainly not rolling in money. I also have several of the 'posh' things but they weren't expensive (ie roll top bath just about to go in, costing less than £200 but I sold the previous bath to pay for it).

I will be putting in roller blinds though as I hate the bloody dusty horrible wooden slat ones that are in at the moment. I'd rather have a £10 roller blind than spend hours dusting supposedly nicer blinds.

brokengoalposts · 25/04/2022 00:58

I thought the panelling was the latest fad, so now considered naff by thd more affluent.

I have some common stuff and some push stuff, I think they cancel each other out and make me bang average... I love it!

swimlyn · 25/04/2022 01:08

Oh yes.

Where would we be without these "experts"?

IPMSL.

Monty27 · 25/04/2022 01:20

I have one sin to admit to in accordance with the article. My utility room is off from the kitchen and you can see the washing machine. It's posh chrome though 😃
I think the artificial wooden panel fad will die a death like the Laura Ashley borders of the 80s 😆

Fridge clutter is charming. It tells a story. Brings a home to life. Love having a nosey at people’s collection of travel magnets, upcoming party invites or kids drawings while they make me a cuppa.

echt · 25/04/2022 01:34

An odd list, especially as having a utility room for the washing machine is, I'd imagine, the exception not the rule in many UK houses/flats. Or should it be behind a door?

Also, the half-panelling would look terrible if it's not in keeping with the overall look of the house.

Bloodybridget · 25/04/2022 02:03

Well, thank goodness our washing machine is in the damp, windowless storeroom next to the kitchen, along with the freezer, where cobwebs hang from the ceiling and the plaster slowly crumbles off the walls. I'd hate to be common!

SpidersAreShitheads · 25/04/2022 03:12

There are few things that have made me want to say "oh do fuck off" so much as the "expert" in that article.

Ah, a ‘laundry room’! I have one of those!
It also doubles up as a garage and is full of ‘stuff’.
It may come as a surprise to you but many people have quite small houses with no money or room to expand.

Whilst many of the things listed aren’t to my taste (grey & crushed velvet for example), I agree with the OP. It’s a judgemental article.
