How long did it take to complete from the day the offer was accepted, I know this varies, but approx timescale?

Hyperion100 · 02/04/2022 07:43

5 months

catsheepteacher · 02/04/2022 07:53

3 months, but the house we bought had no onward chain.

RussianSpy101 · 02/04/2022 07:58

13 weeks

berksandbeyond · 02/04/2022 07:58

17 weeks

Alexaplaysomething · 02/04/2022 07:59

4 weeks

JustJam4Tea · 02/04/2022 07:59

6 months. 2 months of that was seller getting retrospective planning for the new roof … conservation area.

JudgeRindersMinder · 02/04/2022 08:00

Twice in the past year, 5 weeks both times, but we have a sensible house selling system here

Thewayshetalks · 02/04/2022 08:01

What was the general delays? I have no chain/no mortgage, really hoping for a quick process

20 weeks

goodbyestranger · 02/04/2022 08:02

Four months but I chose the date - it could have been three had I wanted things done faster.

luniz · 02/04/2022 08:02

10 weeks

LaWench · 02/04/2022 08:02

4 months, supposedly straight forward purchase only. This did include the 3 week Xmas shutdown. My solicitor advised that 16weeks is about average.

RussianSpy101 · 02/04/2022 08:03

It was our searches that took a while. The market is still very fast where we live so they had loads apparently.

Chemenger · 02/04/2022 08:03

Six weeks (Scotland, cash purchase).

FallopianTubeTrain · 02/04/2022 08:04

11 weeks. We were in rented, seller moved into rented

TheFlis12345 · 02/04/2022 08:04

14 weeks, our mortgage provider (Barclays) we’re the main issue, they took forever to approve the mortgage for no apparent reason.

Thewayshetalks · 02/04/2022 08:06

I have had all my searches back already, survey has been done, my solicitor has had the pre contract, so seems to be coming along

10 months. Chain of only three when we offered. Vendor kept changing his mind about his onward purchase and we had zero leverage to get him out due to house prices rising. Sad

animaniac · 02/04/2022 08:12

14 weeks. Chain of four. That included two weeks of inactivity over Christmas, and our vendors had already been two weeks from completion before their sale fell through, so that side of the chain had documentation etc all ready to go. I was also very pushy and was ringing agents and solicitors frequently which helped speed things along.

Forkrightorf · 02/04/2022 08:16

We completed a fortnight ago, accepted an offer on ours late October and had an offer accepted early Nov so 4-5 months. That was with everyone really pushing. Chain of 3. Solicitors seemed to be slow, and our buyers were very thorough and wanted lots of reports and surveys which slowed things plus we had Christmas shut down.

TabithaHazel · 02/04/2022 08:18

Ours took 13 weeks last year, we were in a chain of 5 but everyone was motivated to move and the key thing was we all seemed to have competent solicitors who didn't need much chasing.

Hornicorn · 02/04/2022 08:19

4 months and it was completely straightforward. It probably could have gone through quicker if we’d pushed it but we’re not in any rush

OldTinHat · 02/04/2022 08:24

Four weeks.

Unescorted · 02/04/2022 08:27

That is a bit of a how long is a piece of string question - there are huge variations across the country and specific conditions for each property could make a huge difference.

Generally (based on my experience of flats and small houses) over the last 12 months on mine it has gone from 10-12 weeks to 16- 26 weeks. This does not include outliers where freeholders have not responded to queries. There are staff shortages in local authorities so surveys are slow and chains are slow & fragile.

TheGriffle · 02/04/2022 08:27

12 months. Issues with the property our buyer was selling.
