What do you flush down your loo?

Lately, a few threads about saniflo, macerators, etc. have sprouted out on here, and I've been surprised seeing people commenting along the lines "make sure you don't put down wipes, sanitary products, cotton pads, etc. if you have THIS type of system".

I mean, is it really still considered ok to flush all those products down the "normal" drain??? Shock

I only flush pee, poo and loo roll.

Anything else goes in the bin.

NoIdeasForWittyNickname · 30/03/2022 03:01

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon me too! But the comments on those threads about saniflo/macerators really make me wonder what so many people think the drains are 'supposed' to handle ConfusedHmm

Agreed!

NoIdeasForWittyNickname · 30/03/2022 03:36

@BrokenNHS, I don't dare to ask what 🔴& 🧪 stand for these days

Blood, even I knew what it means.

Blood 🔴 and toilet bleach 🧪!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 30/03/2022 04:21

Ah bleach, yes I put that down too! Yeah to the 3 P's, and blood and vomit too I guess!

Absolutely nothing else ever. My dad brings flushable wipes into our house but had been warned never to flush them!!

CircleofWillis · 30/03/2022 04:28

I also spit my toothpaste out into the loo to save on water. It will go down with the next flush.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 30/03/2022 04:57

I thought the same when I read that thread. Why would anyone put anything other than paper and body waste down any loo?

CasperGutman · 30/03/2022 06:26

🟡 & 🟤 & 🧻 & 🤮 & 🧪

Plus, very occasionally, sloppy food waste such as stew - but nothing liquid enough to go down the sink or solid enough to trust to a compostable food waste bag.

MeanderingGently · 30/03/2022 06:43

Bodily waste and toilet cleaner only. Nothing else at all, not even loo paper. I've spent too much time abroad in countries where toilet paper isn't flushed down the loo, it goes in the sani bin instead. Much better for the drains.

We live rurally on a boarding school campus. We're on a septic system. The system got clogged up recently and needed clearing- they sent a photo to all campus staff of everything that had been found inside. You name it, it had been flushed-including a small houseplant Confused

Otherpeoplesteens · 30/03/2022 09:43

We're on an estate which is below the level of the sewer main which serves it, so everything we flush has to go through a pumping station to get up to the sewer. When we bought it was drummed into us about the Three P's (poo, pee, paper) being the only acceptable things.

We both lived for long periods in places with septic tanks where even bleach is a no-no, and I've also lived in places where bog roll goes in a large open bin, so it's never been an issue for us, but having seen first hand what people do flush away nothing surprises me.

lightand · 30/03/2022 09:46

Oh yes.
People still flush all manner of things down the toilet.

Dont get me started on this subject.
I know someone who has to deal with what get flushed.
Mind you, tech is now advanced enough to pinpoint the streets where this regularly happens. If you get my drift.

lightand · 30/03/2022 09:48

To be fair, there ought to be a publicity drive about it.
But not so many publicity drives happen nowadays.

Nnique · 30/03/2022 09:51

Toilet paper. That’s it. Can’t stand ignorance about this.

Ooooh, the Shit Police. Love it. Where can I get a job (if you'll pardon the expression) like this?

emmathedilemma · 30/03/2022 10:33

sadly it is, people claim they don't know that things shouldn't be flushed and many work on the basis that if it vanishes from the bowl (even if it takes more than one flush) then it must be ok.

That must've been a very good wake up call for some Grin But a houseplant - how??! Shock

I used to work in an old hotel, and the amount of times we had blocked pipes from people flushing nappies down the loo was insane.

Surely common sense would tell you if you have to stuff it down there, it's not supposed to be going that way?!!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/03/2022 12:39

Human waste and toilet paper.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 30/03/2022 12:40

Unfortunately some people are just completely thick.
