Worktop to match navy kitchen

I’ve read on here that navy kitchens are out of fashion but as I’m staying in this house rather than doing it up to sell I’m going with what I like and I really love navy kitchens. Currently I have cream (house was fairly beige when we moved in).

Worktop wise the obvious choice is white with slight vein quartz but in Howdens yesterday they had a grey kitchen with sparkly white quartz that wasn’t in your face blingy and it caught my eye. I just wonder if it’ll be too much with the dark navy. The plainer surface feels the sensible sophisticated choice but I’m not sure that’s very me. I keep changing my mind though. It’s such a big thing to get wrong.

Go for the sparkles! You're not doing it up to sell, so do it to your own tastes. I'm imagining subtle glints rather than disco ball sparkles, right? Grin

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/03/2022 19:36

@peckpeckpeck yes, subtle sparkles… but we might want to sell it at some point so I don’t want to put people off Grin the more I talk about it the more I think the sparkles make me happy and non sparkles might have me thinking we could have had sparkles.

Definitely get the quartz and sparkles and post a pic as we'd like a navy kitchen in our new house and looking for inspiration

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/03/2022 19:45

Sparkles don’t really show in the photos. I don’t think pictures do it justice.

I wish we’d got the sparkly quartz.

Whatever you do don’t go for wood!!!

Thenother option I would consider with navy would be stainless steel for a small area / so practical.

MissFritton65 · 11/03/2022 19:54

@NeedAHoliday2021 we have a navy kitchen with a cornflower blue island. We have oak worktops on the navy but navy quartz on the island; I love it!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/03/2022 20:00

@Thewindwhispers I’ve ruled out wood - I live with 4 mess makers! Needs to be bomb proof and nothing I need to varnish or oil yearly. I’m way too lazy for that (not actually lazy as work full time in a hospital and have 3 dc - just have better things to do with my time than avoidable diy). Oak tops do look fab but won’t last well in my house.

We have white sparkles and it's a godsend for hiding any stains. It doesn't actually stain much at all, and we've had it 6 years and it looks brand new, but the flecks does mean I'm not worried if it does stain a bit. If I'd gone for plain white I'd be so worried about leaving a mug of tea out or a jar of sauce.

Holidaypls2022 · 11/03/2022 20:07

We have a navy kitchen which I love Grin we have sparkly white quartz which has been amazing and looks great.
Ps great username Grin

Holidaypls2022 · 11/03/2022 20:09

@MissFritton65 we have a pale blue island too, sounds v similar to your kitchen!

Fourmagpies · 11/03/2022 20:12

We have sparkly white quartz too and love it. Kitchen units are dark grey, rather than navy. It's not as stain proof as I first thought but stains do fade easily after someone leaves a bottle of red wine on side or drips tea!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/03/2022 20:16

@Holidaypls2022 probably need to change my user name as my 2021 holiday was cancelled as Dd 3 had covid Sad here’s hoping for 2022!

I think you’ve all convinced me. The flecks so seem sensible the more I think about it and…. Sparkles make me smile.

I have this too with dark grey gloss cupboards.
Just use a quartz cleaner for any stubborn stains but really doesn't mark much.

MissFritton65 · 11/03/2022 20:27

This is my navy quartz

Ps it's not finished.......

Ozanj · 11/03/2022 20:37

I prefer white with a gold vein on navy. Sparkles looks a bit too much on non-white kitchens.

Tinkletwat · 11/03/2022 20:40

You can get free samples from Silestone (which Howdens stock) to see what it would be like in situ. And then use it as a coaster afterwards Grin

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/03/2022 21:14

@Tinkletwat I like that idea!

My friend has that worktop and it's beautiful!

MairzyDoats · 11/03/2022 21:17

Oh I think navy units (which I love btw) are a perfect match for slightly sparkly worktops. Think sensible suit meets funky uplifting handbag / tie!!

peckpeckpeck · 11/03/2022 21:36

I love the sparkles! It's not at all OTT judging by that photo. Absolutely go for it and please share photos after Smile

CasperGutman · 11/03/2022 21:46

We have a navy kitchen with Dekton tops in the "blanc concrete" design. It looks fab. No sparkles, pale cream with a slightly rippled texture and a natural-looking speckled pattern.

notagaim · 11/03/2022 21:52

My fitters bleached my white sparkle quartz worktop. I was horrified as I thought it would ruin it, but brings it up fabulously and removes the red wine rings completely.
notagaim · 11/03/2022 21:52

Ps I have white with a hint of sparkle with my navy kitchen and love it!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/03/2022 23:40

I’ve announced to dh that sparkle is the decision. Now for ovens - so many are out of stock so I’m assuming supply chain issues? I wanted a Neff double oven with pyro cleaning and hide and slide doors but can only find single models. May have to have 2 singles on top of each other?
