How much for a new front door?

Wnikat · 08/03/2022 10:30

Just been quoted what I consider to be a fortune for a new front door and just wonder what others have paid.

Composite with new frame, so not just the door but a complete new installation. Can anyone tell me what they paid for similar?
Thanks

I paid £1000 about 3 years ago x

DenholmElliot · 08/03/2022 11:04

£1800, installed

beguilingeyes · 08/03/2022 11:08

I was quoted £4,000 by Everest..who were very hard sell. £5,000 by another company. This is for a composite door.

We're paying around £2,000. We're in London.

£1400 for fitting and with a small window above. Everest also quoted an insane number to us and were rather rude when we said we couldn't afford their quote.

Halllyup17 · 08/03/2022 11:28

Just been quoted £1375 for a sliding patio door, so I'd be surprised if it's much more than that.

redbigbananafeet · 08/03/2022 11:30

£1800 for color composite and side panel in Glasgow

greatherewegoagain · 08/03/2022 11:31

£1400 for a wooden composite front door. Two small windows in door at top and not standard white. Includes frame, fitting and fixtures such as letterbox and knocker.

I got other quotes for the same type and size doors and some wanted double or more than that. Some similar to this quote, so pays to shop around. The sky high quotes were from big national companies like Everest and SafeStyle.

It's being fitted next week

I paid nearly £1500 for a blue composite door with the top half glazed in a Georgian style (as needed to let in light to dark hallway). This was a few years ago in Berkshire.

Figmentofimagination · 08/03/2022 12:45

£1090, black composite door with white on the inside and a window in most of the top half of the door. No extra windows around the door. From a local company in the NW.

CMOTDibbler · 08/03/2022 12:50

£1300 for a Solidor, frames, side window and installation of the whole unit. Local firm and we had to wait months, but they did a great job. They've just replaced our sliding patio doors with french doors as well

Fluffymule · 08/03/2022 12:56

£1200, black composite door with white internal, two glazed panels at top (opaque), standard letter box and handle.

This cost included VAT and installation, 10 year guarantee and FENSA cert.

Also had to wait four months because of supply chain demand so but the bullet and got the back door done at the same time (same price again) to save future delays and price rises.

  1. Supplied and fitted with side panel
PigletJohn · 08/03/2022 14:50

Is there a reason why you don't want a wooden door?

Terfydactyl · 08/03/2022 14:53

Solidoor £1300 and it was a back door so no numbers or letterbox.
White and white, brushed steel handle.

SD25 · 08/03/2022 15:01

Are the Solidor the ones that look a bit shiny and like wood but not quite?

Dunno if only solidoor looks like that, I've composite in a different house and they look like wood grain, but so does the solidoor in this house, but it's more grained? Is that even a word?
SD25 · 08/03/2022 15:20

OK sounds good. I just see some that look almost nice but then from a certain angle/light look a bit too much like fake wood. Probably being overly fussy

TwoBlueFish · 08/03/2022 15:33

Ours was £2,200 solidor composite door & 2 side panels.

Tbh, I’m not convinced by the aesthetics of composite doors either. They really don’t look like wood, no matter what folk say. I appreciate why people choose them (no maintenance, no shrink/expansion issues, more secure and arguably better looking than UPVC) but they aren’t convincing wood-mimics.
deadlanguage · 08/03/2022 15:45

I paid just under £1400 last year - that was the lowest quote we got and it was a local company. It’s a fairly standard door with a little semi circle window in it (no windows above/at the side).

The temperature difference in the hallway compared to when we had a wooden door is amazing.

FantasticFebruary · 08/03/2022 15:51

I was quoted £1500 just before covid. Same as yours-door & frame, no top or side windows (that's fitted incl VAT). SE England. Hate to see what they might have gone up to!

ZaZathecat · 08/03/2022 15:54

After being quoted £2500 by a local double glazing company, I paid £1500 with online company We Do Doors. Like yours it was a composite with full length side panel, fully installed. We're in the South East.

£1500 by a local company but I designed the glass inserts and side glass panels and top window. But it was brilliant!
