Anyone else hate their induction hob and gone back to electric!?

newtolineofduty · 16/02/2022 15:37

Or is it just me whose thinking of doing this!?

Ever since we had our induction hob fitted four years ago we've had intermittent problems with it eg some days certain rings not working, or needing to put it ALL the way up for any heat to radiate at all. Not every day but once a month or so. Over the last month however all rings bar one have stopped working. It's correctly fitted and we're using the correct pans. I called the company we bought it from and they said they've never heard of other negative feed back or experiences of induction hobs, so is it just me that wants to give up on it and try electric instead, or is it worth trying a different induction hob!? It's a good quality one and I'm aware they can be expensive to fix so I'd be tempted to just start again, but induction or electric!?

Interested in others experiences on this somewhat dull topic! Thank you Xxx

I hate my induction hob (installed by previous owners) and want to go back to gas.

newtolineofduty · 16/02/2022 15:40

@HomeHomeInTheRange that's so validating thank you! People rave about them! What is it you dislike? I like how easy it is to clean but that's it! X

I love my induction hob but I haven't had any of the issues you have mentioned. I don't think that's typical, it sounds like yours is faulty.

AuntieDolly · 16/02/2022 15:42

There must be something wrong with the hob, pans or wiring. That's not right at all. I'm on my second and love it - so clean and fast. Hope you get it sorted.

bluechinavase · 16/02/2022 15:42

I love mine. Never had any issues and it's ten years old now. It's a Smeg.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 16/02/2022 15:44

This isn’t an induction hobs are shit issue, it’s a faulty hob issue!

I do really rate ours - the ability to set a timer is so useful.

SeasonFinale · 16/02/2022 15:47

You clearly have a faulty hob

Cleothecat75 · 16/02/2022 15:49

I love ours. I think you have a faulty one. So much faster to heat up and start cooking and easy to keep clean.

newtolineofduty · 16/02/2022 15:50

Thanks everyone! Maybe I need to brave it and try a different kind as I do love the efficiency and how easy it is to clean!

Glad to know it sounds like it's just a fault with mine x

I loved my induction hob. Was sad to leave it when we moved.

I did have some issues with a faulty one where it stopped working. But it was fixed. I think it was a hotpoint. I also smashed a hob by dropping the extractor fan on it.....I don't recommend that. Fortunately it was insured.

PiesNotGuys · 16/02/2022 15:54

I don’t like induction hobs but I really, really hate electric hobs.

Gas is the only way for me.

newtolineofduty · 16/02/2022 15:56

@Mumdiva99 can you remember what the issue was and was it expensive to fix? Xx

No love my induction and would never go back but mine works and yours sounds faulty. Mine can boil water incredibly rapidly and is super sensitive and fast to change temp.

saraclara · 16/02/2022 16:04

I've had to deal with induction hobs at two airbnbs, and I hated them. The whole on-and-off thing happening constantly was a pain in the neck. And the heat I set it at was rarely what I got. I could see no advantage to them at all, and was so relieved to get back to my gas hob.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 16/02/2022 16:13

I quietly miss my gas hob.

The induction is, um, ok.

Yeah, it heats up quickly. Yeah it's easy to clean.

However, when a pan boils over, it pisses all over the flat surface so you have to get to it quick before it dribbles under the hob and all over the work surface.

On a gas hob, the pan is on a trivet so any spills are contained underneath. Also, having to wipe the cooking area or the contact isn't that great when liquid comes between the base of the pan and the element.

If water splashes on to the controls or my fingers are wet there is no response from the functions.

I have to switch the hob on, then switch the element on. With gas, I just used to turn the gas tap to the required setting, the ignition would spark and I start cooking.

There's not the pleading and bargaining that seems to go on with my induction hob. (That was here when we moved in so we might as well get on with it, cba getting rid and installing a gas hob.)

CraftyGin · 16/02/2022 16:16

We went from gas to induction.

I am disappointed with the induction. Our one has too temperatures - too hot and too cold.

It also has to be scrupulously clean to work. So if you are cooking, say pasta, on too hot, and it boils over, the cooker cannot cope with the starch water.

I like that it is easy to clean.

CraftyGin · 16/02/2022 16:19

*two

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 16/02/2022 16:21

Ive had two and I love them, the first was a Miele one and it was the best, perfect control over temps and really easy to use. The one I have now is a Electrolux and its good, dont have any of the issues you have mentioned, although it is strangely noisy. I love the safety aspect, no open flames like gas or hot surfaces like electric or ceramic. So much easier to clean and the surface is a useful space when not in use.

boringcreation · 16/02/2022 16:27

I adore mine and would never get electric. Yours sounds faulty, I've never had an issue with mine.

Soontobe60 · 16/02/2022 16:33

Love my induction hob.

BTW, induction jobs ARE electric! The 3 types of electric hobs are ceramic, induction and electric plate hobs.

newtolineofduty · 16/02/2022 16:54

@Soontobe60 yes I should have put induction versus ceramic! X

I've just moved into a house with a gas hob and I miss my induction every day.

Henlie · 16/02/2022 18:18

We have a Miele induction hob, installed by the previous owners of our house. We love it. Wouldn’t go back to anything else.

It sounds like you might have a faulty hob Op… Has anyone been out to look at it? Is it still under Warranty?

Earlymorningcuppa · 16/02/2022 18:36

I think my induction is not perfect, and does cause some frustration but it was safer for my kids to learn to cook on compared to gas. I kept a gas wok burner - so I had the best of both worlds. I'd go back to gas, sure - the kids have moved out.

Treecreature · 16/02/2022 18:42

Yanbu. They're awful.
