Strike estate agents

Has anyone used them? They are free. Unless you want to pay for extras. The reviews say there is no hassle to use the extras (I've looked at them and I definitely wouldn't need them).
Has anyone used them, and got to completion for free? It seems to be a no brainer. I've got a house that should be easy to sell at a fair price. I don't see what work an estate agent will do that is worth a few grand.

We bought through them and it was a nightmare! You never got to speak to the same person twice, at one point they told us the vendor had decided to take the property off the market while they them we'd pulled out; luckily we had the vendors number so spoke to them and able to put things back on track however if we did have direct contact the sale would have collapsed.
I would avoid looking at properties on with them if we ever move again.

MissFritton65 · 15/02/2022 07:17

**telling them we'd...

mugoftea456 · 15/02/2022 07:19

Definitely go with an estate agent.

I've tried to buy through strike and it was such a shit show. Never speak to the same person, the sellers have to do all the work. I gave up in the end and withdrew my offer.

If you do use them, at least get someone professional in to do the pictures. Some of them are laughable on Rightmove !

ZiggysPFrow · 15/02/2022 07:20

My friends buyer pulled out in June. She found out about this in Nov.
Any money she would gave saved by using these guys has been spent on extra interest on her mortgage payments and extra council tax payments as she should have completed by now!

Roselilly36 · 15/02/2022 07:40

I would go with a high street EA if you are serious about selling OP.

We have had two frustrating days trying to book a viewing on a property we are interested in, marketed by Yopa, called them multiple times, just a message saying they are busy. One call was 45mins waiting, no answer, emailed, booked appt online, that was cancelled this morning by the so called “local agent”. No call to rearrange. Totally useless service iMHO.

We moved last year, we paid our EA over £6k in commission, yes a lot of money, but they did sell our house, and we got moved.

No such thing as a free lunch OP.

areyouhavingagiraffe · 15/02/2022 11:52

Yup. I used them for my Sale. Paid 600 pounds (approx) as I went with the professional photo. Could not fault the process or Strike. I loved the transparency, everything comes through on the app. You see all your offers, can liaise with potential buyers direct. Liked being in control. I would never use a high street EA, I saved thousands.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 15/02/2022 12:17

Houses where I live are in huge demand, as in up and sake agreed within 48 hours.

The only 2 properties available for any length of time are up with Strike. Playground chatter is that they're just too difficult to deal with and messages don't get passed on.

Selling your house is too big a deal to be cheap with.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 15/02/2022 12:23

If your property is likely to have lots of interest you’ll likely recoup the cost of a proper estate agent with what they can get buyers bidding…

areyouhavingagiraffe · 15/02/2022 13:06

Hmmm, mine was up for sale on Friday, sold my Monday. And more offers were still coming in. Messages come straight to you as the seller.

veevee04 · 15/02/2022 13:10

Strike seem to significantly overvalue in my area and the houses are sitting. Be careful

@ZiggysPFrow how come it took so long to notify your friend?
Jaffacakeman · 15/02/2022 21:16

I recently sold my flat with Strike.

Put the flat up for 250k hoping to get 240. Had two offer of 250k on day 1. Asked strike for advice which one to accept and within 10 mins they managed to negotiate the price up to £265k.

Ended up using their conveyancing company as the buyer was using them too.

Really pleased with the service.

rockyroad9 · 15/02/2022 21:47

We tried to buy through them, took weeks to get the property taken off the market after our offer was accepted, could never speak to the same person, lost documents etc. In the end the seller pulled out anyway.

Overdon · 17/02/2022 18:18

I had a weird experience with Strike, called regarding a property the day it came on RM, they gave me a day for viewing but we’re also very pushy about me speaking to one of their mortgage advisors, I did agree to speak with one as I was worried I wouldn’t get a viewing otherwise! Strike said they would confirm the time of the viewing. They didn’t confirm, I chased them and was told it was now being sold privately. Ok that’s that I thought.
But, it is still listed 3 weeks later, I called back again thinking maybe the private sale has fallen through. This time I was told, “oh yes there are lots of people waiting to view the property” and they played dumb about the private sale. After the call they sent me a list of all the Strike properties for sale in my city (which are already on RM).Hmm

Chronicallymothering · 17/02/2022 18:37

We bought through them and dealt directly with the vendor. Strike added no value to the process.

Vodkaandgingerale · 22/03/2022 01:36

Having a mare buying through Strike. They are incapable of reading paperwork, don't reply to calls or emails and keep requesting the same information again and again.
They've told different stories to our mortgage brokers and me.
Three weeks after offer accepted and they still haven't sent out sales memorandum, despite having all information required.
I wouldn't recommend them, or touch them with a bargepole.
Angry

Absolutely. I was looking at a house yesterday that had just come on with Strike. It's priced £120k more than it sole for four years ago, and £100k more than two identical houses on the same street that sold within the past couple of years. It's a bog standard 3 bed semi. No chance it'll sell at the price it's at.

Personally, I've heard enough horror stories about Strike that I'd avoid them as a buyer.

isthesolution · 24/08/2023 13:34

Is rightmove not an optional extra?

We will be ready to sell in the next month - just doing final touch ups, declutter etc.

We will take our own photos anyway (husband a photographer). The only thing we want really is to be on rightmove. Happy to do own viewings etc but the way I read strike is that rightmove is extra? Does anyone know?

They aren't explicit on their site so that's a red flag.

One review said that a Zoopla listing was included for free but a RM listing costs a minimum of £299.

I have no idea if that is true. Contact them, I guess.

@ZiggysPFrow

was your friend not buying another house?

No, she was relocating and staying with family whilst she found somewhere

Monkeylimas · 24/08/2023 17:36

I think they charge to go on rightmove. Also I believe you handle your own offers - this alone can cost you more than a estate agency fee - a good estate agent will get your offers as high as possible .

NeedTheSeaside · 24/08/2023 21:09

@Monkeylimas

a good estate agent

shame they're like golden hens teeth!!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 24/08/2023 22:02

I had no problems using them in the end, and it has all been completely free.
No hassle to use in house services. I did my own photos, went up on RM for free, they handled offers, and have updated me accordingly along the way.
Hope that helps someone. I'd definitely recommend.

Did they definitely do Rightmove for free for you?
I am looking into using them and they will charge for a Rightmove listing.
