Do the toilets with a hand basin on top work?

Are they a bit naff?

Saw a flat with a separate toilet and bathroom and thought if you had to eee while someone was having a bath (etc) it would be annoying but the space is tiny.....plus is the water recycled?

They are very small and you can't wash your hands properly in them without splashing water everywhere. I love the idea of them but they aren't really up to the job. All the ones I've used have only dribbled out a small amount of lukewarm or cold water too - sadly not good enough.

What's wrong with using soap in water that you flush the loo with? Many ecologically minded households use grey water for flushing the loo, and a good thing, too.

Mine has got an ordinary tap on it, with a good flow, not a trickle.

They're really popular in Japan where space is at a premium. I've used loads and found them good. You quickly get used to the size of the basin. I've never heard of not being allowed to use soap in them, it just becomes grey water so perfectly acceptable for flushing.

I've used three of these and each time you have to lean forwards over the loo so as not to press your legs onto the front edge of the toilet seat. Grim and uncomfortable.

We have one in downstairs cloakroom and looks good, works well and no complaints or comments from guests other than positive. Five year old son can reach it fine to flush and wash hands.
Better than not having a sink at all I think.

We have one in our tiny downstairs loo and it works really well. You do have to lean over the loo to reach it if your room is very small like ours but the basin is quite deep enough.
I don't think I'd use one in a main bathroom though - it really isn't big enough for anything other than hand washing.

We had a separate loo/bathroom and looked into these. There wasn’t really one that wasn’t a huge compromise.

We ended up taking down the (brick and plaster) walls and making the loo bigger.

Yes, we've recently had one installed. Our plumber advised to get one with a hot water feed- not just cold. Ours is tiny, but they do come with larger sinks. It also means no plumbing going along a wall or trying to hide pipes, so cheaper for installation. We weren't advised about not using soap at all though- and I certainly do!

I used an amazing one on holiday, not only was the sink above the loo, the loo folded back into the unit to make space for you to shower.

A room smaller than most toilets that was a complete functional wet room type bathroom. It was incredible
