Tiny sink for tiny (old, horrible) WC

Hi all,

We have a very small WC in a (horrible, cold, retro) concrete extension at the back of our house. (This extension consists of a laundry room and WC, both walk-in cupboard sized, and another large storage room). Ultimately we will have the back of the house remodelled and so o don't want to spend much on this area... but I am desperate to get a small basin in with the loo. It's our only downstairs loo.

Here is a pic. I can't afford to change the toilet or the artex or anything, just add a sink. I thought a very small , short projection one like this would work? Is it too small to be practical?!

This link is a wall hung sink with no waste or tap provided , so I'll need to order these separately. I think all the walls are concrete block.

I will probably buy a mixer tap but it will have cold water input only. I don't think we can afford anything else atm.

Any advice appreciated thank you!

what are the dimensions of the cistern

or post a plan drawing

Thanks so much. Does this help? I hope it's clear enough

The room is 90 x 170 cm

I have seen a loo with the sink at the back where to top of the cistern usually lifts up

EezyOozy · 26/12/2021 20:36

Thanks. I've probably got about £150 to try and get a sink in there. I'll even buy a second hand sink / tap if needed.

We have this one in our tiny WC, dimensions are similar. It works there’s just no where to put the damn soap without bodging it behind the tap. So need to look at a shelf above it

EezyOozy · 26/12/2021 20:43

Thank you @DasherDotComet , I've seen some little metal bracket things on Amazon that hold a pump bottle of soap so that's ok.

Could anybody tell me if I need left or right tap hole, or does it not matter?

I have this one with right hand tap hole. Had it for over a decade and it's great!

Chimley · 26/12/2021 21:00

The tap side doesn't matter. I just preferred right hand. The little shelfy bit you don't have a tap on holds a normal Simple pump hand wash bottle.

QuestionableMouse · 26/12/2021 21:03

It's the plumbing bit that's the expensive part quite often. Have you had any quotes, or do you have someone to do the work?

EezyOozy · 26/12/2021 21:05

There is a very reasonable plumber locally who I've had out to do minor jobs. I'm hoping he'll come and look in new year but trying to get my head around what is even possible on a small budget.

Im also unsure where this sink would drain to, the toilet soil pipe? I guess it can't drain to the emergency cistern overflow

(My tiles aren't really red but they are outing!)

Mine is also cold water only. It drains into the toilet soil pipe.

EezyOozy · 26/12/2021 21:12

@Chimley that's good to know. Did your soil pipe have to be changed / have an adaptor on? Ours is really old... I think the bit that goes into the ground might be lead ?! Sorry such a grim pic, it's an old house we are trying to slowly do up

Looking at the draining (lead pipe cemented into concrete floor) I'm thinking this might not even be possible 😞 not without a full WC overhaul, which we can't do atm

RandomMess · 26/12/2021 21:35

Go for the loo with the sink above it option then and then it should work with the existing soil pipe.

EezyOozy · 26/12/2021 21:39

@RandomMess that's a good point

Seriously by the time you take plumbing issues into account the 2 in one basin/loos are well worth it. All the sewage and in pipes are already in the right place!!

Plus you are doing good for your water bill and the environment. They are so incredibly sensible

EezyOozy · 26/12/2021 21:53

OOH Would this work?! Leaving existing bowl and drainage ? Current cistern is plastic anyway so may be newer....

Ours was plastic but they just cut a hole in it.

Where is the sink currently? I thought it was part of building regs that a toilet NEEDS a sink in the same room? Did the extension actually have planning permission to be build??? Confused

I too was going to suggest this toilet we recently had installed in a tiny cloak room. Its not finished, but if we'd had the space, I would have gone for the one with a larger sink at the back. It was cheaper to keep the plumbing all together at the back on the one wall- rather than having pipes going along the wall for the sink. I'd save up and replace the current loo.

If you do get one of those toilet/sink combos, make sure it has a hot water feed on the sink and not just cold.

The house was built in 1803 and the extension was built in the 50s I think !
