where can I get reasonable curtains for high ceiling house!

It seems that all of the reasons that we loved our 1930's house mean that we'll need a separate mortgage for the curtains!
I need curtains and tracks for semicircular bay windows - curtains just down to the window sill width 300 drop 176, and for the doors into the garden width 300 drop 274.
I've tried dunelm, next, john lewis, made, ikea, habitat but can't find the size I need. I have tried Brittania Rose for made to measure but they come up too expensive.
I'm either after William Morris prints, or plain, but not velvet.
Any good curtain suggestions? I guess I'd pay £200-£300 per window, and I'm in London
Thanks in advance :)

@saddowizca - if you are in London have you tried the Curtain Exchange - they are 2nd hand but they will not take them unless in tip top condition - you can look at them and see what you like - they tend to be custom made but sold for a fraction of the price they probably cost.

Standfast & barracks make William Morris fabrics and have a fab factory for seconds… they do mail order too - you’d have to have them made up though but bet they’d be able to rec someone www.designerfabricoutlet.co.uk/designer-fabrics/

Hmmmff. I like my Voyage curtains (though they’re more of a simple abstract design). I’m going to stomp off in a big huff now (and drink wine 🍷 Smile).

BasiliskStare · 05/12/2021 18:57

@saddowizca - here is their website - I have bought curtains from there - main thing is you need to go to the shop so you can see what you are getting but I have bought from there and as long as you can just look through all the curtains ( when I went they arrange them by length ) - you get so much better quality curtains ( if you like the fabric design etc ) - but the quality is fabulous) thecurtainexchange.co.uk/second-hand/ I did sell a pair of relatively expensive curtains though them & whoever bought them got a bargain - But that is absolutely fine by me.

But you need to see what you like & if they have something you like it is great - you pay as I said a fraction of the price .

Curtains2go are excellent.
Honestly.
Used them loads (and binds2go...same company).
Quick, all made to measure. Affordable (am not on commission!)

areallthenamesusedup · 05/12/2021 20:22

and they do a William Morris range.

They are about 1/4 of the cost of John Lewis made to measure.

Used them loads as we have got rental properties and we move a lot. They have never let me down.

saddowizca · 05/12/2021 20:24

@BasiliskStare they look great but in Colchester? I’ll have a proper look on my work pc tomorrow- I may have missed something :)

I feel your pain, my house is bloody ridiculous.

I ended up having them made at an independent retailer. My living room window requires 33sqm of fabric 😫

Firesidefox · 05/12/2021 20:29

Haven't RTFT but look on Next Door for local curtain makers. We've always used local seamstresses and have done so well. Much nicer than boring John Lewis etc, plus if you're lucky they'll put them up for you.

saddowizca · 05/12/2021 20:31

@areallthenamesusedup yes they do look good - I need to select the fabric first though - John Lewis maybe 🤭

We bought from JL with similar measurements but we found we needed two pairs per bay. You can’t really tell looking at them and it makes washing them a bit simpler!

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 05/12/2021 20:33

Next made to measure are brilliant. I’ve never been disappointed with them and I’ve bought 2 pair of curtains and 6 blinds from them. All made to measure and fitted by them as well. The quality is outstanding. I’m going to get a kitchen blind and curtains for my patio door from them in the new year.

They only make with their own fabric. Which is why they are as cheap as chips. You send off for samples. They send fabric samples back super fast, all for free.

Mate advised me to go for ones with "linen" somewhere in the name. They are fab and hang nicely.

They do some materials which can look bit shiny which I personally avoid.

Look, you get what you pay for. I have had super expensive designer curtains and these ones and whilst you would never mistake them I have been happy with them. And in 10 years of dealing with them (and I must had done 20 orders over the years) they have never once let me down. They have been a tad slower over peak covid, so lead time has gone from say 2 weeks to say 3 and 1/2 weeks but their customer service is fab, they always answer the phone, they always know what's going on.

They have started doing shutters now too so am going to give them ago now :)

IKEA curtains are really long as they're designed to be hemmed yourself xx

saddowizca · 06/12/2021 08:39

Thanks @areallthenamesusedup I’m going to order some samples. Thanks for all of the info, much appreciated 🙏😊

I have applied for my swatches, it seems they do the William Morris prints but in slightly different colourways, but I don't mind that. I could really do with an expert to come around, measure up, and then put the darned rails up for me, but that is probably asking a bit too much Grin.

One of work colleagues recommended Brittania Rose, who do look very good, but really expensive for my window dimensions.

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate all of your help
