where can I get reasonable curtains for high ceiling house!

It seems that all of the reasons that we loved our 1930's house mean that we'll need a separate mortgage for the curtains!
I need curtains and tracks for semicircular bay windows - curtains just down to the window sill width 300 drop 176, and for the doors into the garden width 300 drop 274.
I've tried dunelm, next, john lewis, made, ikea, habitat but can't find the size I need. I have tried Brittania Rose for made to measure but they come up too expensive.
I'm either after William Morris prints, or plain, but not velvet.
Any good curtain suggestions? I guess I'd pay £200-£300 per window, and I'm in London
Thanks in advance :)

There are a few places around the country such as Curtain Exhange or the Curtain Agency who can help you find some ‘pre-loved’ bespoke curtains.
The Curtain Agency near Edinburgh for example are fussy about their stock and you can find some genuine bargains in these places.

@saddowizca

crikey *@trickyex* that was a massive link, but what lovely curtains. I might investigate further! Your vendor sounds lovely *@Warmduscher*, our previous owners left us vertical blinds which i hate i like curtains to feel cosy. We did think about a curtain pole in our bay and found a nice iron one that we were saving up for. We then stayed in a holiday cottage with iron pole and rings, and they were surprisingly noisy when pulling the curtains. Ikea don't do 300 length curtains anymore sadly. Thanks again everyone - off down an ebay wormhole now :)
Oh she was - she adored the house and asked all the 11 people who offered on it to write a bit about themselves and why they wanted to move to this area as she really wanted the house to go to a family and not a developer.

Good point about the noisy curtain pole (though the old metal track is also incredibly noisy!). Tbh if I can find a reason not to spend a small fortune on a curtain pole I’ll be pleased!

@Clymene

I have 4 John Lewis curtains at my bay. I haven't even bothered to sew them together they have enough fabric that there's no gaps
That’s a good tip. I always worry the join wouldn’t be completely straight and would go all puckered.
Wineandroses3 · 04/12/2021 19:31

I got my made to measure from Dunelm they will come out and measure and fit too , they were brilliant I was really pleased with mine

@saddowizca

La redoute and blinds2go sound good- haven’t tried them before thanks *@per***@PermanentlyTired03@MaryLennoxsScowl and I have looked at eBay *@trickyex* but they’re all in inches which confused me. I assume postage is expensive. Thanks so much everyone- much appreciated 🙏
Just divide by 2.54 to get the measurement in inches

IKEA are the only place I've seen made to measure in 300cm drop.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 04/12/2021 19:34

That should say ready made in 300c,. Sorry

I thought about doing that too and liked these but was concerned that the pattern may not line up...

Ikea only seem to do these in 300 drop which don't really light my fire

Clymene · 04/12/2021 20:22

It never even occurred to me that the pattern wouldn't line up across different pairs! Mine are all identical.

Dougieowner · 04/12/2021 21:25

Feel your pain.
Had a couple of pairs MTM by Dunelm for our last house and were very very pleased with the product but of course they were quite expensive.
About to move into our new build which has high ceilings and want the curtains to fit floor to ceiling. Costed up the living room yesterday. Lovely material, blackout lining and triple pleat but the cost did make me swoon a bit (not far short of 4-figures) and that is just for one window in one room!
Dunelm do have a good sale twice a year and that is when we ordered the shutter blinds for our last house (20% off), will have to see if it covers MTM curtains as well.

They do have a few others online but none are very inspiring. They may well have more in store though.

Bathshebahardy · 04/12/2021 21:36

Most shops sell 300cm length. The last curtains I bought at 300cm drop were very cheap from Ebay.

RedWingBoots · 04/12/2021 21:45

You need made to measure for the bay.

So either:

  1. eBay, or
  2. a friend who can make/alter curtains, or
  3. one of those random small curtain shops you find on a few high streets in London.

The shops tend to be in located on high streets that don't have loads of fashionable shops but aren't completely run down. They also don't tend to have a good website so you have to go into the shop.

I've just moved to a 1930's bungalow and can't understand why the architects designed the bay window - such a wasted space.

I've been thinking about what to do and as there is a wooden pelmet from one wall to the other in both bay windows, unused by the previous owner, I am having rails fitted and floor length curtains made. Quote for 2 pairs of fully lined was £350, including the rail fitting.

Salome61 · 04/12/2021 21:53

PS - I am supplying the fabric, so would be more with the fabric purchase.

My god Salome! That’s such a bargain- where are your suppliers based?

I’ll need to start looking for high st curtain shops @RedWingBoots - would really love someone to hang them too Smile

IKEA def do or did way more styles in 300cm just 6 months ago. In the summer we bought white ones, dark blue black out, yellow black out and thick cream ones, all in 300cm.

In fact the yellow ones are still in packet to be returned, called ‘Majgull’.
Not sure what the other ones were called as all different

Moversnotshakers · 05/12/2021 13:08

Dunelm do long length up to 274 drop in selected styles/colours but don't have them in store just online. Only take a few days to order though and good quality and good prices..

Lonecatwithkitten · 05/12/2021 13:29

Another person suggestive Blinds2go, I recently bought massive curtains ( one pair is a 360cm) window all are very big windows and I felt the price was very reasonable for voyage fabric and thermal linings.

Thanksagainand · 05/12/2021 13:30

Got ours from an auction.

I bought some Voyage curtains two weeks ago. Lovely quality but hideous design and nothing like the picture! I sent them straight back.

I'm also on the lookout for curtains. Only two places I found are John Lewis and Dunelm. All other places sell the same products as these two stores.
