Yes that's very true! I've not read one bad review of the ektorp sofas really. I've also decided that i can spend some of the £2k+ I've saved on some nice velvet cushions. Our old sofas got ruined because we always ate in the front room because our kitched was hellish - but not anymore!

I'm pretty stuck on sofas, wanted a corner sofa so can sit to face TV or garden, but they are all so big they'd be a visual and physical block to the bifolds which seems t counter to the point of having made a big space that opens onto the garden. Planning on having a clear out of builders crap in there this weekend to see what we're at.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/11/2021 14:20

Have put very knackered mini 2 seater in there with 2 old ones poang chairs for now.

wonkylegs · 24/11/2021 14:45

I'm stuck on sofas - we need a sofa bed
Don't want to spend a fortune but also want something that will be fairly good.
Although I am a big fan of the IKEA ektorp their sofa beds were all rather uncomfy to actually sit on.
We have a John Lewis sofa in the house but it's not aged well so keen to avoid that again. Our really good sofa was from multiyork but unfortunately they went bust so can't look there again.
I want modern but comfortable, not too much sinking in though as I'm tiny with dodgy hips and get stuck in squishy sofas.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 24/11/2021 17:12

Evening all - I found the bath. Well, it's back in its crate and covered in other boxes, but apparently it's there.

The floor repair guy started today. Unfortunately the labourers put some of the old wood we planned to use outside a few days ago (why??), so they're now drying it and hopefully it will be fine.

I also had to do an urgent 1.5 hour round trip to the radiator spray shop, as some of the brackets weren't taken when they collected them.

I've ordered some fabric. Just waiting for them to send me the invoice to pay. There are delays on the fabric for the kitchen and hallway/landing, so it won't be done before Christmas sadly.

I confirmed the kitchen unit colours... still have a wobble.

What else was I mean to do today??! Oh yes, order switches/sockets. Still haven't done that 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh and the main internal window that's massive and between 2 rooms apparently won't be ready before Christmas...meaning we can't plaster, finish decorating or fix the wood floor either side. I've just replied with no!! Hopefully that means they'll do it next week 🙈

Callmejudith · 24/11/2021 19:45

Posh what colour did you decide on? No more wobbling!

Currently having a glass of wine in the kitchen, sitting on the bar stool with the candles on. Kids are playing in the space. It's just wonderful. I don't even care that there is no paint on the walls!

MissFritton65 · 24/11/2021 19:53

@Callmejudith sounds bliss! Who needs painted walls? We move back in on Friday.....but we'll be effectively camping in a dust bowl!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 24/11/2021 20:05

@Callmejudith so great that you're enjoying the new space 🥰

Here are my kitchen colours..

Wall units: Neptune Silver Birch (lighter paint sample)
Island: F&B Hague Blue (a warm navy)
Wall colour: Neptune Driftwood (darker paint sample)

And that the fabric I'm using for kitchen curtains and snug roman blind 👏

All the talk on here of sofas has spurred me into ordering the sofa for my office; thank you ladies as 2 weeks ago they could deliver that week hence me leaving it. Today delivery is 20th December!!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/11/2021 08:10

Good news on the sofa delivery date @MissFritton65.

I had that with a big bookcase for my living room... went into the store to check measurements in first week of August and it could be delivered end November. Went back to order it in the 3rd week of August... delivery date is now mid-January 🙄

Must order sockets and switches today!!

wonkylegs · 25/11/2021 11:23

It was too dark to see much last night when the plasterer finished but I took this this morning. It's starting to look really good yay

LivingInABuildingSite · 25/11/2021 12:56

Yey for plaster! It makes such a difference.

Have one guy here today mist coating the plaster in the back. The electrician was here first thing but has done whatever he needed to do.

Had an hour at howdens with DH finalising the kitchen, so that’ll be emailed for approval then we can order it. Don’t know if I have to pay all at once or deposits, etc.
But they reckon they can deliver the kitchen bits next week which is great. Some of the appliances may take longer. But we are keeping some like the dishwasher anyway. Must order my fridge freezer soon.

We’re about to enter the heady world of two kitchens at once 😂

I need to make a dent in clearing out the tv room area as they may move in there soon.

Steps forward today. Hope everyone else is moving in the right direction too.

sluj · 25/11/2021 13:19

@wonkylegs. Plater is one of those jobs where you feel a big leap forward has been made. Looks good
@LivingInABuildingSite - we have had the luxury of relocating our kitchen to another room and extension so our current kitchen has been fully operational throughout. This is probably why I have been chilled throughout the various delays. We just shut the door and left it.

Callmejudith · 25/11/2021 13:20

That looks great @wonkylegs plaster makes such a huge difference

I'm at work today, hoping the kitchen installer is coming back this afternoon to finish the extractor and the missing doors. Then my plan for tomorrow and the weekend is stripping and scraping the hallway.

OP posts:
LivingInABuildingSite · 25/11/2021 16:08

Sluj - it definitely helps us not losing the kitchen entirely.

New kitchen arriving next Tuesday! 😱
Having gone through month of nothing really happening it all seems to have speeded up suddenly.
And the kitchen quote is less than we were expecting which is truly shocking!!
Although doesn’t include the worktop, and some of the appliances that were sourcing ourselves.
Or the tiles.
Or the utility which I need to get cracking on soon.
But still.

And my DBro has agreed to lend us cash to get through the cash flow issues of being ahead of schedule (but still over budget, blaming covid, not my additions and changes lol).

Can’t remember if I said but the neighbours at the back have agreed to the higher fence, so need to get the fence guy back to adjust his quote.
Then when he’s here the rendering of side walls can happen.

Lots still to do but does feel progressive atm.
Mist coat nearly finished.

MissFritton65 · 25/11/2021 16:18

WHERE'S THE GIN? We are supposed to be moving back in tomorrow but just been to the house and when I said that to the joiner he just laughed!! Apparently they are putting the UFH in tomorrow so we won't be able to access the temp kitchen as the other side of the screed. WTF?
The holiday cottages we are in a fully booked for the weekend and I've got a full weekend of clients booked in.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/11/2021 16:22

Oh no @MissFritton65!! I hate the last minute announcements of these things, as if no one thought to tell you there's a big impact.

I'm in London office today. Stressed to be away from site 🙈

Butwhhhyyyyyyy · 25/11/2021 16:30

Well my extension is up, yay, bifold doors are delayed for another 3 weeks though, I have to say it has gone quite smoothly except for a lost gas pipe that took a week to find.

fingers crossed for completion before Christmas.

Oh no!!

What’s the plan now?

Can you get to the temp kitchen from outside or something?

MissFritton65 · 25/11/2021 17:09

@LivingInABuildingSite unfortunately no outside access to temp kitchen. But they haven't done 2nd fix either yet either.
Currently working on Plan B probably another Airbnb.....our 6th since we moved out 17days ago!!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/11/2021 18:05

@Butwhhhyyyyyyy fingers crossed for you!! Hope everyone is speedy.

Anyone freaking out about potential snow this weekend?

Feels better now that I've given up on the idea of a lovely homely perfectly decorated house for Christmas 😂
