Back to site today to meet the electrician to install all of the lights.

Hopefully the plumber will be there too.

And also meet a post-build cleaning company to get a quote. I already know that it will be extortionate. They cleaned when we moved out of our rental before buying the house. I'm actually nervous about anyone cleaning the house in case they scratch or damage anything. Bonkers 😂

whataboutbob · 05/01/2022 10:37

Thanks @PoshWatchShitShoes he tells me he has done joins before 🤞. Good luck with things today, always good when there’s lots going on!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/01/2022 12:06

FUUUUUUUUCK....

Our site has been open for 18 weeks. When does everyone catch covid???! Yup, less than 1 week before they finish.

Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Callmejudith · 05/01/2022 13:08

@wonkylegs that looks so beautiful. I would definitely just live in there and hide away from the world.

@PoshWatchShitShoes oh fuck that is NOT what you need. Is it liveable if you do have to move back?

@whataboutbob good news on worktop!

I need to pick a hallway colour. It’s a north facing v trad Victorian hallway with white woodwork. I fancy a really lush rich blue

OP posts:
MissFritton65 · 05/01/2022 13:22

@Callmejudith mine is similar but I'm going duck egg blue with traditional parquet floor and striped runner on stairs with stair rods.

whataboutbob · 05/01/2022 15:36

Who has Covid @PoshWatchShitShoes? So many people I know are getting it, even the triple vaxxed!

wonkylegs · 05/01/2022 17:09

@Callmejudith my Victorian hallway is black painted original anagylpta (under dado) and pale parchment painted plain walls above and bright white woodwork.
I was a little scare of the strong colour of pure black as we only have light from the glazed panels by the doors at each end and the stair window but it's really good and weirdly brighter than when it was yellow (previous owner).
A strong blue sounds nice especially with white woodwork.

Callmejudith · 05/01/2022 17:30

Black and white sounds amazing

I’m thinking something like this

Well, great excitement and a bit of annoyance here. Just got an email from DIY kitchens to say my kitchen will be delivered between 8am and 10pm either tomorrow or Friday. They will text me an hour before apparently. I'm excited to get the units but a bit fed up to be confined to the house for 48 hours!
10pm seems a bit late for a delivery too.
Still, it will be nice to move on.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/01/2022 18:34

@whataboutbob 3 guys are off. Joiner, guy who does all the coving and decorating and the guy who is repairing window apertures. Such crap timing.

I've said they can all come back to site tomorrow if they're feeling well enough. They're then off Friday anyway when I've got other trades in.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/01/2022 18:36

@Callmejudith I've just had my living room painted Hague Blue. They're painting the skirtings the same colour too.

Then I've got another bedroom in Hague Blue and another bedroom in Stiffkey Blue. Both of those rooms have Wimborne White woodwork.

Actually most rooms in my house are a shade of blue or taupe 😂

PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/01/2022 18:47

That's exciting @sluj 😊 Hope it's an early delivery for you!!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 05/01/2022 18:50

Despite site covid crisis, today was quite good. Main achievement...the electrician got me to send him my list of sockets and switches and he's actually ordered them for me 😂

Also, they're mostly in stock with his trade supplier 👏 Which is fabulous, as I was looking at a 3-4 week lead time with a retail order. So pleased!!

And I've booked a company to clean our bedroom carpets and mattresses on Friday. They'll also clean my fabric headboards, curtains and blinds. Also yay!!

LimpLettice · 05/01/2022 19:15

Loving all the blues. Lounge is going blue when it's done.

All our groundwork is now done and the walls are going up. Builder is starting some inside work end of next week so we have to do some major clearing. I'm not entirely sure what we are going to do until they cut in a door way and install a new stud wall as it will basically mean downstairs is off limits to the little children for several days in freezing weather. It needs to be done this way so that we can get ready for kitchen delivery in February and hopefully have minimal time with neither. Hopefully no major covid restrictions! SIL is next town over so I think we will bugger off over there on the day times.

@wonkylegs that tile is 😍

whataboutbob · 05/01/2022 20:04

@PoshWatchShitShoes the horrid cynic in me is wondering whether they have other jobs on 🤔. Hope not! Sounds exciting @LimpLettice good to see things getting started.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 06/01/2022 08:28

@whataboutbob I'd totally agree if it was the plumber or plasterer, as they're tricky to track down as it is 😂 but the labourers apparently want to get back to work, so I'm opening up site again today if they feel well enough. Then they're off work Friday and Saturday.

I'm actually pissed off as I found out last night that the 3 guys who tested positive haven't been vaccinated BY CHOICE!! I know everyone has freedom of choice to make that decision, but the consequence is that I wouldn't have employed them if I'd known. I stupidly assumed they'd be vaccinated 🤦🏼‍♀️ It's too late to do anything about it now, but definitely a lesson for me!!

whataboutbob · 06/01/2022 10:52

It’s really difficult to gauge as I wouldn’t expect people who want the job to be truthful, and asking to see Covid vaccine certificate might be a step too far, but I guess some people might feel comfortable doing that.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 06/01/2022 13:06

I have asked my builders if they’re vaccinated but not as a condition of employment. However I have reminded them about walkins and taken their phone numbers to text if I’m volunteering at the vaccine clinic and nudged them 😂 tbh they all seemed keen to get them.

Wiring going in today for new kitchen, hoping the fridge may get switched on….🤞 or maybe tomorrow.

But, in exciting news, the bin cupboard is in 🎉. Means I can get rid of my old manky broken bin so makes me excessively happy 😃

Callmejudith · 06/01/2022 13:34

My lemurs are in the downstairs loo - I adore them

That looks fabulous @Callmejudith 🤩

PoshWatchShitShoes · 06/01/2022 14:05

Builder has been contacted by one of my neighbours with an enquiry about some building work. The neighbour has asked the builder if he can see the work they've done in my house to see the finish etc.

Thoughts? I'm happy with the builder and the quality of work, so I'd happily give a verbal or written reference. But I don't really want a random neighbour popping over for a tour.

Am I being mean to say no to a visit? It would be before we move back in, but still gives me the ick. I don't even want them to send photos. Maybe I'm being weird 😂

Callmejudith · 06/01/2022 14:40

Have you met the neighbours Posh?

OP posts:
sluj · 06/01/2022 14:41

@Callmejudith Loving the lemurs - are they all over?
@poshwatchshitshoes - not weird at all, it could just be a nosy neighbour. Could you just tell the builder you will talk to them direct and then just offer the verbal review without the tour? Do you know them?

Still sitting here 7/48 ths of the way through my DIY kitchen delivery slot 😏

LivingInaBuildingSite · 06/01/2022 16:02

Loving the lemurs!

I’d feel a bit weird too, I’m happy showing friends round but randoms is not the same.

I wouldn’t mind photos though, before you move back in.

I said I’d be happy for the worktop guy to take photos for his portfolio, no names or info attached but dh got all weird about it and said no 🤷‍♀️

Not quite a lemur pic, but a new bin instead!
