Agree about the hierarchy of trades. My kitchen fitter is also an electrician and usually has Penguin Classics sticking out of his tool bag ( a mumsnet boast is ever there was one!).
When we had our extension done, one of the boss man’s labourers would disappear for about 20 minutes at a time into the loo and come out without flushing ( as no toilet action) and with bloodshot eyes. Felt like putting a “ no drug taking on the premises” sign up.

wonkylegs · 26/11/2021 17:58

Scaffolders have been here today and the extension now has a temporary 1st floor so they can plaster & paint the ceiling easier.
I'm glad he's decorating it because I think otherwise it would have been my job and the scaffold just shows how high the ceiling is.
Plasterer is working the weekend so it's getting there and it feels like progress. Although I will have to get up early both days to let him in.

Kitchen installer has said he’ll be here tomorrow at 8.30. I am not planning to set my alarm.

Sofas came today (ikea entorp in dark grey) I’m so impressed with the comfort and so easy to put together DS9 did the whole thing without looking at the instructions! Absolutely bliss to have a front room again

@Callmejudith 👍

PoshWatchShitShoes · 27/11/2021 07:42

That's great news @Callmejudith 🛋 You'll be all cosy to watch Strictly tonight 👏

Callmejudith · 27/11/2021 08:24

Bloody hell the kitchen installer turned up! Shocked.

I need to decide on paint colours for the kitchen

Buy a lottery ticket @Callmejudith!!

Indecisivelurcher · 27/11/2021 08:54

Hope everyone's OK in this wind, we've got snow blowing round right now!

Indecisivelurcher · 27/11/2021 08:56

My mum was going to have this kids this morning so h & I could build all the flat pack furniture, but I don't want her driving over here to get them.

wonkylegs · 27/11/2021 09:21

I've just done a walk round the garden to see how we've faired after last night (NE so it was and still is quite wild out there).
Extension is ok (phew), just a few branches down & lots of debris on the roof but no damage
Next doors fence however is now at a 45degree angle into our garden - and as it's 120m of fence that's going to be a big fix.
We have lost a large tree and I've declared the top far corner of the garden a no go zone until the wind dies down as it looks dangerous. However we have literally hundreds of trees so I think one so far isn't too bad.
Lots and lots of branches to pick up and I had to clear the driveway for the plasterer this morning but I think we've been lucky.
Plasterer said a lot of roads were closed due to trees being down.
Hope everyone else faired ok.

@whataboutbob

Thanks *@Callmejudith* it’s a combination of being a penny pincher and just finding it easier to do it myself rather than try and find someone reliable. DS18 helped with one room, but he had to be incentivised!
18 kids? 18 sons? What?
Callmejudith · 27/11/2021 09:56

@bumsnett it means her son who is 18

The storm sounds scary! We’re in London so a bit of wind last night but nothing bad

Stay safe everyone!

Nothing down here in Essex. Hope everyone is safe and not too much damage. My inlaws in Hampshire had a broken window from something. And aunt in Yorkshire has no power. Here it’s just a bit chilly!

We don’t have builders at the weekend so a quiet couple of days. Before hopefully a big week of kitchen, f/f and hob all arriving and starting to get fitted. Plus more painting, gone for plain white for now as I’m useless with choosing colours.

whataboutbob · 27/11/2021 13:49

@bumsnett Grin 18 kids! I can just about manage 2.
Hope the storms don’t get worse and everyone on here is ok. Let’s hope next week brings more progress! Just living in hope now that 1) I don’t get any texts from IKEA between now and Monday cancelling the delivery, and 2) the kitchen fitter is at the flat during the delivery, as he told me he would be. Any other trades turning up next week will be a bonus.

whataboutbob · 27/11/2021 13:52

Just seen @Callmejudith’s post and the kitchen fitter turning up at the appointed time 😯! Hope to be able to report the same next week.

Callmejudith · 27/11/2021 15:43

Fingers crossed @whataboutbob

The splashback and chimney is finally finally done. This has been serious stress. I still think it’s going to be a nightmare in terms of smears but DH loves it. Just adding the pic of the angled chimney as that was a mission

Looks great @Callmejudith. All the upheaval required must explain why past a certain age, most people don’t want to change a thing in their homes!

LivingInABuildingSite · 27/11/2021 17:27

Agree @whataboutbob, I can’t imagine having the stamina to do all this again and especially when older.

@Callmejudith very shiny!! Hope it’s isn’t a cleaning nightmare.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 27/11/2021 18:47

Love it @Callmejudith!! Must feel amazing to have it looking done 👏

I've got a stainless steel range and I can already see it's going to drive me potty. Please let me know if you learn any tricks for keeping it shiny

MissFritton65 · 27/11/2021 19:18

@Callmejudith and @PoshWatchShitShoes loving the look you are going for. Baby oil is what you need to keep the ranges shiny!

LivingInABuildingSite · 27/11/2021 19:30

Haven’t added a photo in a while, mist coat 1, sanded down rough bits, and more mist coat added.

@LivingInABuildingSite wow! Huge space🤩

PoshWatchShitShoes · 28/11/2021 07:39

That looks fabulous @LivingInABuildingSite. So much light 🤩

Thanks for the baby oil tip @MissFritton65

I've woken up feeling poorly 😭🤦🏼‍♀️ Off to PCR, praying it's not covid a) cos we're still in the Airbnb which is depressing and b) cos I need to micromanage everyone on site to get them done and out of my house in 2 weeks time!!!
