Induction hobs - yes or no?

Hi, having an extension with new kitchen built at the moment and trying to decide what hob to get. Have heard mixed things about induction hobs so looking for opinions/experiences. Thanks.

I love mine. Quicker than gas and easier to clean.

partystress · 08/09/2021 17:39

Love mine, but pan quality makes a huge difference. Very fast with decent pans and I love that it is just one wipe to clean.

nomdeguerrrr · 08/09/2021 18:05

Yes. Look neat and modern. Easy to clean. Very responsive.

Sleepinghyena · 08/09/2021 18:11

Yes!

awonderfuladventure · 08/09/2021 18:12

Love mine too.

abw94 · 08/09/2021 18:23

No.

Hated it when we had one so we changed it to gas within 6 months of moving in. Difficult to find pans to work and the heat settings were either hot and burn everything or stand over the pan for what felt like your whole life.

Will never have one again.

CelloYouveGotABass · 08/09/2021 18:25

Yes! They’re safer and easier to clean. With a good pan, they will boil water faster than a kettle. As PP said though, invest in good quality pans.

Medievalist · 08/09/2021 18:25

Hate mine. Useless for a wok or omelette pan. Great if your main aim is ease of cleaning. Not so good if you like to cook.

Roselilly36 · 08/09/2021 18:27

Yes, we love ours, easy to use & clean, still impressed with how quick the water can boil, we have a Bosch one.

PopcornAndWine · 08/09/2021 18:32

Thanks all! Would be interested to hear what brands you all have also, both yeses and nos!

Yep love mine. Would not go back to a messy gas hob now. I got all my pans from IKEA and they've been brilliant.

hedgehoglurker · 08/09/2021 18:43

Yes, love it. It is SOOO fast to boil water compared to gas, very responsive, has a timer which will turn off the hob - so no more mushy overcooked veg because I've got distracted! All of my old pans work on it too, which is an unexpected bonus. (I have a Stoves induction range cooker.)

Staywithmemyblood · 08/09/2021 19:07

Definitely yes! I love ours - v responsive and so easy to clean. It’s a Neff brand

Realyorkshiretea · 08/09/2021 19:10

No, no and no again. I just moved house & went from gas to induction and I HATE it. Gas was so quick & intuitive to control, the induction hob takes ages to warm up and there is a lag in changing the settings and the heat adjusting. Any spills bake on to the glass and are difficult to get off. The glass always looks like it has a greasy film on. And to top it off if I put a pan or plate on it without the ring being on, it beeps at me.

In short, it’s ruined my life.

nimbuscloud · 08/09/2021 19:10

Bora.

nimbuscloud · 08/09/2021 19:11

I think some people get confused between ceramic hobs and induction hobs.

Plumtree391 · 08/09/2021 19:12

I had one and it was great. I wish I had one now actually but when kitchen was extended and re-done, I was 'advised' to get something different. In future, if the situation arises, I will trust my own instincts.

Henlie · 08/09/2021 19:15

We have a Miele induction hob. Absolutely love it. Wouldn’t go back to gas now.

twointhemorning · 08/09/2021 19:18

I love my AEG Induction hob. It has a really high wattage and can boil a pan of water in less time than a kettle. Once heated up it's very responsive. We had to change most of our pans though. It's easy to clean and nothing gets burnt on - we just squirt some Ecover multi surface spray and wipe with a kitchen towel. For extra shine a squirt of vinegar with a microfibre cloth.

jaundicedoutlook · 08/09/2021 19:21

There are lots of threads on this and they always split into (a) I’ve got one and love it; or (b) I’ve tried one (at auntie Nellie’s / rental cottage / wherever) and hated it.

Those who hate them always suggest that if you’re really good at cooking you’ll prefer gas, which is cobblers.

Personally I have one (Miele) and love it, but I would suggest you find some way to try one first if you’re unsure.

trumpisagit · 08/09/2021 19:33

Yes, obv you will need the right pans, but easy to clean and responsive.

KhoshkaKatya · 08/09/2021 19:38

I think they are just ok. If I was buying a house an induction job wouldn’t put me off.

Equally though if I was installing a kitchen again I’d go for gas or ceramic.

Yes they are easy to clean. But so is ceramic and it cooks better, especially when it comes to browning.

Nothing like as good to cook with as gas, not even close. Plus I like the fact you can still cook in a power cut with gas. Yes, gas is a bit more tricky to clean.

But basically cooking performance trumps ease of cleaning for me. If I wanted a compromise between the two, ceramic is a better balance.

BabycakesMatlala · 08/09/2021 19:41

Some of these comments sound like comments on ceramic hobs, not induction - there's no lag/lack of temperature sensitivity on an induction hob, but appalling on a ceramic hob (had to use one on hols and I wanted to smash it with a hammer!).

Big yes to induction hobs - they're as responsive and quick as gas.

Bouledeneige · 08/09/2021 19:46

I would say I'm quite an adept cook. I inherited a Siemens induction hob when I moved into this house and I really like using it. I had to buy all new pans - which was a nice thing as my old ones were probably 25 years old. It does take a little time to get used to but I love it. It's quick to heat up and browns things well.

I also have a steam oven which I'm yet to work out how to use. I keep choosing the conventional fan oven. All Siemens.

Twizbe · 08/09/2021 19:50

I love mine. I've had 2 Lamona (Howdens own brand) ones with le cruiset pans.

It's great, I'd never go back to gas now.
Much safer with the kids, easy to clean and great to cook on
