Estate agent not using Rightmove problem?

We're thinking of selling our house we live in a fairly unique house in a village in a desirable area, and there is no other properties in our village on the market let alone like our house. We've had two estate agents in one we liked more than the other (they are based in our village and we felt knew the area and what sort of house are generally available here better) but they are not one Rightmove they use Prime Location On the Market and Zoopla. Would this out you off? Whenever I've looked for property I've only ever used Riughtmove.
Both were charging the same commission.

Yes.

I guess there is an argument that anyone seriously looking would check more than one site, but Rightmove is the benchmark. I don't imagine anyone would look at Prime Location, but not Rightmove. The reverse doesn't apply.

callmeadoctor · 03/09/2021 11:17

I only look at right move.

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 03/09/2021 11:21

I only look look at Rightmove too.

What is their reasoning?

WhyMeLord · 03/09/2021 11:22

The only time I looked at prime location or on the market during our search was for newly added houses in a very specific area as these sites tend to update quicker than rightmove and we wanted to be quick off the mark to get a viewing, notificationsform these sites came in quicker. I didnt look at zoopla at all. All our trawling and short listing was done on rightmove and I think that's the same for most people. I wouldn't use an agent that didnt use rightmove, it has the biggest audience.

idontlikealdi · 03/09/2021 11:23

I only look at rightmost. Presumably the agent doesn't want to pay right move.

FAQs · 03/09/2021 11:25

Yes, over 90% of viewers use RM.

RussianSpy101 · 03/09/2021 11:27

I only look at rightmove.

thesplashing · 03/09/2021 11:32

Have you ever tried using the search function on prime location? It's so terrible and clunky.

Apparently one of the conditions of Prime location is that they ask agents to use their service exclusively and not any of the others.

I'd go with the Right Move agents.

Rossetti47 · 03/09/2021 11:37

You need to be on Rightmove. I don’t look at any others

SpeckledlyHen · 03/09/2021 11:39

I am (desperately) house hunting at the moment and I have alerts set up for on the market and RM. I occasionally go to prime location or straight onto some EA websites but alas there never seems to be anything new posted on them that are not already on RM. It definitely seems to be the starting point that most people would tend to go to.

thinkingofselling · 03/09/2021 11:48

You’re all saying what I’m thinking everyone uses RIghtmove as their first and often free not choice to look for property. The agent says they’ve recently stopped using Rightmove because the fees are so high but this is not reflected in the commission.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/09/2021 12:22

I look on Rightmove and Zoopla.

I really don’t like On The Market - not very user friendly IMO.

I particularly like Zoopla for the ‘most reduced’ search function.

lazyakita · 03/09/2021 13:00

I'd say that Rightmove is fairly essential.

Salome61 · 03/09/2021 13:31

I chose an agent that didn't use RightMove and feel it was a mistake, I left them and went to an agent that did.

Wombat96 · 03/09/2021 13:36

Definitely use the agent with Rightmove. The other one is taking a punt that high demand means the house will sell regardless but you want the widest range of people to see the house.

theemmadilemma · 03/09/2021 13:51

I think it would be a huge mistake unless he has someone lined up.

thinkingofselling · 03/09/2021 14:02

Thank you all I just wish the other one had better local knowledge.

It would put me off. However, does the agent have a list of people who’ve expressed an interest in the village in the past that they can contact? We sold our house in April and the agent had sold a similar property in a similar location the previous week so they contacted all the people who had viewed the other house and missed out on it. We sold straightaway so the lack of rightmove thing wouldn’t have necessarily impacted on us.

Also, I used an estate agent comparator which showed me the top performing agents for selling houses in my area. It showed how many sales, how long properties were generally on the market etc Can you do that to see which one performs better in your area?

Siouxtse1 · 03/09/2021 14:36

How quickly are houses going under offer/ SSTC where you are at the moment? Where I'm looking, by the time a house gets to Rightmove, it's already had offers and the viewing slots are taken!
Do they have an online presence besides a webpage? A lot of agents sell more locally through social media channels?
I wouldn't dismiss the agent just because they don't use Rightmove. I second using an agent performance tool to compare before committing to an agent. And you can certainly use the lack of Rightmove advertising to help you negotiate a discount from the agent!

chukwe · 03/09/2021 14:44

Since your house is unique in a desirable area, your house may sale before it hits any of these sites.

I wouldn't worry much if it's not on rightmove

Starseeking · 03/09/2021 14:46

If you're not happy to reduce the potential pool of buyers interested in your prosperity, don't go with them. So many people looking to buy only go to Rightmove and at a push Zoopla.

I've visited On The Market a couple of times on the off chance, but not Prime Location, as I didn't even realise it still existed! Rightmove have almost got a monopoly on the online sales market.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 03/09/2021 14:48

It never even crossed my mind to look on any other sites when I was buying, only Rightmove

thenewduchessofhastings · 03/09/2021 14:50

If the estate agent isn't meeting your needs you could try purple bricks and save yourself some money;a friend of mine said it was a brilliant service and her house sold within 2 weeks of going on the market

surreygirl1987 · 03/09/2021 15:16

I'm a serious buyer and only using Rightmove. To be honest, as long as photos are decent and the EA has good customer service, I don't think if matters if your EA is i in the village or not. I'd look further afield for an EA and only use that uses RM.

milveycrohn · 03/09/2021 15:26

Gosh, I thought everyone used Zoopla these days!
