Where did you get your reasonably priced but nice kitchen from

We're having building work done which means we're keeping our kitchen but need an island putting in.

Our builder uses Howdens and we've been quoted £6k which seems a lot... If you've had a good kitchen that was good value where was it from?? We've just booked in at Wren but would be grateful for similar recommendations. Thanks!

6K for an island is ridiculous. Howdens just quoted me 1k for a 3.2 by 1.6m island with loads of fancy drawers and pull outs. Get back to Howdens, demand a trade account, and then get everything requoted

I used Kitchen Warehouse- they were really helpful and were able to produce the bespoke height of cabinet I wanted.

IKEA

Symphony kitchens are very good quality and you should get a good discount at a builders merchant. I got 50% off but I had bought everything else for the house renovations from them.
Look at gower Rapide, not quite the quality of symphony but much better than b&q and very reasonably priced

Our Magnet kitchen was about £1.5k cheaper than the Howdens quote and I'm really happy with it

CockapooHelp · 26/06/2021 22:54

100% DIY Kitchens. They are amazing. Howdens quality at a fraction of the price!

catfeets · 26/06/2021 22:58

I don't recommend DIY Kitchens at all. They're incompetent. 2 months later we're still waiting for parts to turn up and they ignore emails and don't return phone calls.
We got parts of other peoples orders and ours were delivered to the wrong people too. They haven't apologised and certainly won't give a penny in compensation/discount despite us being without a kitchen for almost 2 months.

We had B&Q in a house we let, 10 years of family wear and tear. We then replaced the doors and fronts, good handyman straightened it all up and did some patching.
All looks good after 2 more years.

Independent kitchen supplier. Service was second to none!

Stampcee · 27/06/2021 08:12

Betterkitchens.co.uk. Superb quality and brilliant service. Ours is 2 years old now and still looks brand new.

montysma1 · 06/07/2021 08:03

DIY kitchens. Cheaper than everybody else and my fitters loved it.

DIY kitchens or Magnet.

LidoLady · 06/07/2021 17:20

Go to an independent kitchen suppler. We're just having an extension built and had quotes from Howdens and an independent business.

The service from the independent company has been amazing, the range of kitchens of all different styles and qualities they could offer was fantastic. Their overheads are much lower and they don't pay huge commission to the builders like Howdens do. If you pay Howdens £6,000, the kitchen is worth less than £2,000 the rest is commission and overheads.

We've ended up with a far superior quality kitchen (the difference is like light and day) for a similar price.

We went to Magnet and they were brilliant. However I have heard that it depends on the branch - our designer spent ages with us and made really good suggestions. Our kitchen is now 8 years old and as good as new.

We recently had our utility room redone and used Wren as we wanted something fairly basic and they had what we wanted. Our builder installed the units.

Randomuser9876 · 06/07/2021 18:00

We ordered DIY kitchen yesterday..... I really liked the products, looked a lot more high end then Howdens etc. I also like that we can choose own tap/dishwasher etc as works out cheaper and I'm getting exactly what we want.

Thanks lots for food for thought x

Lark and Larks. I wooden shaker kitchen we painted ourselves, which was a lot of work.

I paid 4k for 19 cupboards including 3 corners, 3 tall ones, and 2 wide drawer units. We then paid much the same price for the worktops.

Lottle · 06/07/2021 19:55

Ours was about 4.5k from diy kitchens. Quite a lot of base units Inc utility. But no wall or tall units. I've been happy with it so far but it's not finished yet and only been in a few weeks.

DHandInterview · 06/07/2021 22:35

Howdens is really expensive. We got ours from DIY kitchens and can't recommend them enough. Their show room is fab if you can get to it.

LazyDoll · 06/07/2021 22:45

Second independent kitchen supplier. Support local. The service will be tons better and your kitchen will last. And if you need aftercare they won’t fob you off.

anotherday235 · 07/07/2021 22:30

DIY kitchens so much choice.

Nanalisa60 · 07/07/2021 22:55

Howdens

Lemonmelonsun · 08/07/2021 21:30

Op can you update please on your DIY experience! I'm in the hell of choosing a new kixthen.

Ozanj · 08/07/2021 21:41

Locally Benchmarx always quotes 2k less than Howdens, so it’s worth trying them. If you’re having a really tiny kitchen done then bespoke might be better value. Shop around

Ravenspeckingontheroof · 08/07/2021 21:44

DIY kitchens. £5k. Same kitchen in howdens was £15k
