This house is absolutely fascinating

It looks to me as if it's been a loving family home and the owner has perhaps just got too old to keep on top of it. So much stuff but the swing in the garden and photos on the walls make me feel so sad for this place now.

I think it's a development site. It would probably be cheaper to knock it down and start again. Rather sad.

SirVixofVixHall · 24/06/2021 18:56

I love love love it. What a beautiful house. If I was up for moving to Somerset I would be viewing that. Lovely county and lovely house.

It’s listed.
RosesAndHellebores · 24/06/2021 19:00

If it's listed I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

HollowTalk · 24/06/2021 19:06

I'd be itching to sort out those rooms. You'd think someone in the family would have sorted things out ready for sale.

yourestandingonmyneck · 24/06/2021 19:07

@Paddingtonthebear

Those computer screens are on aren’t they? Someone still living there
It's beautiful, I love it.

Yes, that's what I was thinking about the computers. I was strangely happy when I saw that, as otherwise it does look as if someone elderly has sadly died.

I'd rather think of a really techy old person happily living there with all their comouters and just downsizing somewhere Grin

Handsnotwands · 24/06/2021 19:15

There’s bread in the toaster too. May be they were caught on the hoof

The calor gas bottle will be for heating

It’s lovely. I’d have it

ElizabethTudor · 24/06/2021 19:15

Thank god it is listed!

Fleurty · 24/06/2021 19:20

It's just one computer, lots of screens. I have the same for my WFH setup. It's probably a younger relative who's moved jn to sort out all the possessions and look after that house and land while the house is sold and they still have a day job to do.

frumpety · 24/06/2021 19:21

I love the rather grand steps up between the outhouses.

LemonViolet · 24/06/2021 19:21

I thought it was going to be some derelict hoarded ruin by the way you are all going on! That’s just a normal lived-in home with outdated decor surely?!? Needs a good clean and tidy up and organise but really not massively out of the ordinary I don’t think! Most people don’t live in Instagrammable ‘modernised’ grey/white stylised boxes with no stuff in Grin. Most people would tidy and clean up for the estate agent photos granted, but this place will sell itself anyway.

It is a lovely house though I agree there!

recreationalcalpol · 24/06/2021 19:27

I think the cheap price can probably be explained by its proximity to Hinckley Point…

Hallyup6 · 24/06/2021 19:30

Definitely someone still living there. Fresh food in the kitchen, electric is on, shower gel in the shower. I think it must belong to someone elderly who is overwhelmed with it all now and needs to downsize. It's absolutely stunning though. Will cost a fortune but I hope someone buys it who will truly appreciate it.

That's what I thought: someone is camping out there, trying to WFH and sort out all the stuff in their spare time. Hell of a job.

It could be wonderful. Lovely plot of land and the house could be absolutely stunning.

Hallyup6 · 24/06/2021 19:44

It seems two older women lived there, at least. One door says Margaret, and one says Joan. Sisters, perhaps? I'd love to know!

AngelDelightUk · 24/06/2021 19:52

I can’t believe the family didn’t depersonalise it a bit. I agree it’s fascinating though.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/06/2021 19:52

That is unnerving similar to my FIL's house! My MIL was fearsomely organised and tidy, but after she passed away he just went to pieces, really. He can't maintain the house and won't accept help. He buys a lot of gadgets and devices too - he doesn't know how to use them so just assumes they're broken and buys the same thing again. It's frustrating Sad

riotlady · 24/06/2021 19:58

It reminds me a bit of a house I saw on Love It Or List It- iirc the husband worked in internet security so was quite techy, but didn't care about the rest of the house beyond his office and invented lots of little "tricks" like tying a lamp to the bars of their bed because they couldn't fit in a bedside table.

Anyway, it's beautiful! I hope whoever does it up doesn't make it too shiny and open plan and lose all the charm.

AspartameMartin · 24/06/2021 19:59

Beautiful.
The video made me quite emotional!

QueeniesCroft · 24/06/2021 20:01

I want it so much! I spent a lot of time in a farmhouse just outside Wincanton as a child and it was the closest thing I even had to a loving home. The photos have the same kind of feel as the house I stayed in and also loads of trees- I live in a place with almost no trees and it hurts me (trying to plant my own but it's extremely windy here so it's a slow process!).

That’s a couple of rolls just sat on the top in the cellophane.

Stunning house op, I’d love a good look round there.

Cissyandflora · 24/06/2021 20:03

This is absolutely the home of my dreams. I’m desperate for something like this to do up. I don’t have the money to buy it unfortunately. I’m looking for something for around 2-300k even if it needed loads of work I’d take it. But this house is beautiful.

Cissyandflora · 24/06/2021 20:05

And when I say I want to do something up I don’t mean open plan and modernise. I would definitely keep all the charm. I’m saving like crazy for a chance to get a farmhouse somewhere for my children.

Cissyandflora · 24/06/2021 20:06

Op do you know whether there is anyway to search for this type of property on Rightmove? The farmhouse type? Or did you just come across this?

readytosell · 24/06/2021 20:31

I imagine that's where Tubbs and Edward retired to Grin
