What a beautiful and slightly eerie house.

Definitely haunted. I wonder whether it has a common or garden ghost such as a 17th century scullery maid, or an altogether more UC ghost like a headless horseman.

@Scaredycatmoo

80s lights? In the kitchen spotlights but other than that… I wouldn’t change the gothic chandeliers - they fit perfectly
I'm sure I had the chandelier shown in picture 3. I got it from IKEA 😂

@AnxiousAndUnraveling

I know where this is, drove past it last week and it’s right on really busy road, I don’t think there is even much of a pavement between it and the cars. Amazing house though.
Me too. It’s lovely but it’s got a housing estate right behind it, the busy road in front of it and a stream practically underneath it. A listed building is a nightmare to insure. Mine’s grade two and that’s bad enough. You’d probably need to set aside £50k a year to insure, for utilities and upkeep (with every tiny bit of maintenance inside and out needing listed building consent). It’s probably had a series of owners with romantic dreams about a house like that, who leave penniless a couple of years later.
Scaredycatmoo · 24/06/2021 17:09

Would love a link!! I’d like to buy one!

ComtesseDeSpair · 24/06/2021 17:17

If it’s been done up and is now an AirB&B, it’s possible it’s been valued based on its income as an existing business. I suspect you’d pay in excess of a couple of thousand pounds a week to rent it for a holiday.

that is a very good point.

Especially if they have bookings confirmed for the next year or so.

Scaredycatmoo · 24/06/2021 17:18

Although that could be a little off putting if not willing to do air bnb!!

Oh I'm surprised not it's sold as commercial property I really need to learn more about this kind of thing.
Scaredycatmoo · 24/06/2021 17:22

Air bnb properties aren’t commercial properties.

Scaredycatmoo · 24/06/2021 17:22

Commercial is rental to businesses

Ostara212 · 24/06/2021 17:24

Sorry, I've literally just realised that as I typed it

i mean, maybe there's been a change of use so it can be used as a hotel?

SoupDragon · 24/06/2021 17:26

@Bluntness100

I don’t think this is what it looks like op. This house was owned by some form of trust and it seemed ther were structural issues associated with it. Quite significant ones, I don’t think this is a paint job, something else has been done to it.
I'm not convinced that is the same building - The Old Hall owned by the Landmark Trust? If so, it seems to get called The Old Manor but the map puts it somewhere else in the village.
ScribblyBaller · 24/06/2021 17:26

The garden does look miserable in the photo @Indigopearl posted and the location a little uninspiring. I wonder how much land it would have stood on back in its heyday.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 24/06/2021 17:26

They got professional photographers in to take the second lot of photos you can see his details in the file names of some of the pictures.

Hardly looks like they have done anything to it. They have changed the kitchen, but it looks pretty much the same as before in colour etc. In fact, I actually prefer the previous one.
I'd never pay a penny extra for decor, as I've never seen a house I didn't want to redecorate.

billycat321 · 24/06/2021 17:27

2nd picture is misleading. I doesn't show that it's next to a main road

SapphireSeptember · 24/06/2021 17:27

I think the first paint job looks better than the second one, that makes it look gloomy and like it's DEFINITELY haunted as opposed to just 'maybe'.

Okigen · 24/06/2021 17:28

It's gorgeous!! I would love to decorate mine like that.

I for sure will never pay for that kind of uplift, but on other hand there is the shining example of the previous owner of my flat, who did pay a 40% uplift Hmm

korawick12345 · 24/06/2021 17:28

it's also only got a few weeks booked out.

OP posts:
BlueMongoose · 24/06/2021 17:28

@Snookie00

It’s been beautifully styled and presented for sale this time. Like something out of an interiors magazine. They might be hoping for a London buyer who is wanting a post-Covid country bolthole and won’t baulk at the price.
Take the furniture out and it would look pretty much as it did before.
BrilliantBetty · 24/06/2021 17:29

It looks like an absolute nightmare. Wouldn't want to take it on even for the 2020 price!

korawick12345 · 24/06/2021 17:30

Soupdragon is correct @Bluntness100 has got it confused with another property I think, This isn't owned by a trust .

OP posts:
ARoseDowntown · 24/06/2021 17:31

That it’s changed hands so many times in the last 15 years is bad enough. Add to that it’s Grade I listed, it’s awful location viz road/neighbours, and flood risk - who kn Earth would pay a million for that?!

QueenOfPain · 24/06/2021 17:31

@hollieberrie

They have done far more than the bare minimum though. That’s completely renovated and looks like a new build inside.

ScribblyBaller · 24/06/2021 17:33

That it'll soon be onto its fourth owner in 15 years shouts 'money pit', 'ghosts' or 'crazy neighbours'. Maybe all three.
