I'm hoping to order our new kitchen from DIY kitchens for our extension which has just had the foundations laid! Pretty sure I want the Helmsley kitchen (possibly in sage). I know a lot of mumsnetters love diy kitchens so was wondering if anyone is willing to share a picture of theirs with the model and colour you chose. Thank you.

Luca carbon and matt white. We turned the tall units into a wide pantry. Still needs shelves in there.

Luca carbon and matt white. I liked more traditional kitchens but DH is more keen on a modern look. He won that one. Put some bifold doors in the tall units. Will still need to add some shelves.

@mothergooseinnorthwest - gorgeous and I love the flooring. Which flooring is that? It looks exactly like what I am looking for!

JeansAndJumper · 10/06/2021 20:23

@MrsBartlet thanks! The cockbeading is quite subtle, just took a more close up pic that shows it. It’s sort of the inner part of the frame rather than the door itself iyswim. So my pull out larder has a “fake” version of it to match as the whole front of that pulls out and there’s no actual framed part. I decided against cornice on my cupboard tops so as to stop it being too fussy.

Mothergooseinnorthwest that kitchen is stunning! I would also like to know what flooring that is.

Does anyone have a mantel? I'm kind of obsessed by them, but not sure if they're a bit fussy.

Thanks - that does look much more subtle than on the sample door!

This is the view to the other end of the room. It was a fairly big piece of structural work to create this room, and the DIY kitchen is wonderful.

@mothergooseinnorthwest - thanks that looks great!

BarryTheChopper · 10/06/2021 20:42

Mine is a cheap and cheerful one as it’s only temporary until we extend in a couple of years. The old one we inherited with the house was terrible so we needed something.

We are really pleased with the quality, I’d definitely use them again.

Colour is cashmere, the worktops are Fenix.

@polar81 they’re by Ebb & Flow but word of warning, they’re gorgeous off but look quite meh when switched on. I have a zillion spotlights so don’t need them on for actual light purposes but if you would want them as lights they aren’t so beautiful which is a shame. I wouldn’t change though, they’re handmade glass and very pretty.

tryingtocatchthewind · 10/06/2021 20:56

@BarryTheChopper you might say cheap and cheerful but that’s lovely, I would be very happy with a kitchen like that.

Thisismykitchen that is gorgeous! Love the sage in real life. Did you get your worktops for diy and can you remember what they are?

Thisismykitchen · 10/06/2021 21:10

No, the worktops are quartz from a stone mason. Thanks for your kind comments!! Some gorgeous kitchens here

I had discounted the helmsley as they dont offer a breakfast cupboard with bi fold doors. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Mothergoose - how did you make yours although presumably easier if not inframe?

mothergooseinnorthwest · 11/06/2021 07:04

We got the bifold gear separately. Definitely easier to find one for in frame. Most I came across were in frame at first. Ours cost about £50 per runner. So £100 extra for the whole breakfast bar bit. It’s almost 2m wide.

depressedor · 11/06/2021 08:17

Mothergoose - Thank you for this but sorry I dont understand. I presumed I would need a cabinet made and bi fold doors as they are in pairs where unit is sold with one door. Was there no upright in your cupboard to support it? I cant see how I could create 1.6 or 1.8m unit like this this with Helmsley and get correct doors.

mothergooseinnorthwest · 11/06/2021 09:30

@depressedor You are right. We had two 1m wide tall broom units merged into one. The joiner added support on top and the worktop in the middle helped too. And we will add a shallow panel in the middle too to provide more upright support with shelves going off it.

We ordered the units ‘dry assembled’ so there was no glue and can be taken apart easily. It was a challenge for the joiner but we got there in the end! We got the inspiration from one of the customers kitchen on DIY’s own website.

Another option I explored was just ordering the doors and bifold gear and have the joiner build the frame to creat a built in pantry but he wasn’t keen on that.
