Home Made Perfect

I haven't watched many of these type of programmes before but I've seen Grand Designs before and this seems more accessible. I like how they are looking at problematic homes and the budgets, while not small, are not as excessive as some people spend on other programmes. I love how they can see the plans virtually before they decide which architect to go with. Angela Scanlon is great. I've only seen this series and the approach seems to be to go for the wow factor of open plan living which looks great but I did find myself thinking about the privacy factor. I also kept on asking - BUT WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO DRY YOUR WASHING?? Smile

Ooh sounds good what channel is this on OP?

colouringcrayons · 03/06/2021 06:54

Yes I watched it, also really liked the garden version.

I also like the real budgets, £60,000 as a budget feels like a normal person could eventually manage that!

There is a thread here.

Do watch the previous series’s(?) if you can. Laura is a brilliant architect. Robert likes bench seating but has interesting ideas.

They spent more than that, though. Almost double. Because on top of the five grand contingency, they remembered there were tens of thousands knocking around from an inheritance (presumably found at the back of the armoire when clearing the clutter out to put it all straight back in the kitchen)

It's on BBC. The link I posted should take you to the episodes.

Absolutely, it feels like it's aimed at normal people. And as the first couple said they had spent 14 years saving the £100k for their project. However, as NeverDrop said, the second couple ended up spending double the £60k they had budgeted after handily remembering the inheritance Smile

Thanks ImAncient. Sadly the previous series doesn't seem to be available. I wonder if there are clips on YouTube.

Yes, Laura seems like a great architect.

I loved this programme which also had interesting ideas as to how to best use the space you have though this is more geared at small scale diy in addition to decluttering. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000tj8v/sort-your-life-out

It's nice to hear projects that are more realistic being shown on the tv.
People use architects all the time to create lovely spaces in realistic budgets but programmes like grand designs give a false impression that everything we do is extremely expensive.
Some projects are very expensive but an awful lot of work we do in the domestic is much much more modest in cost.

CastAColdEye · 03/06/2021 09:04

Enjoy this programme a lot. Love the way light and space is created in unusual ways. Literally thinking outside the box.

I also have crush on Angela Scanlon.

Absolutely. I wonder how much an architect offering such funky ideas would charge for such projects.

Absolutely, thinking out of the box. That very narrow house in Brixton which Laura designed was amazing.

Angela Scanlon is great isn't she. Smile

It’s better now they have more variety - got a bit boring with Robert and his bench seating in every bloody show!

CastAColdEye · 03/06/2021 09:26

@BrightGoldenHazeintheMeadow, She is! I love her style.

Some of Robert's ideas were a step too far for me, the sleep pods as an example, but still interesting to rethink what we always do in terms of our living spaces.

The bench seating was a monotonous feature with his designs. Looked so uncomfortable too!

I'm obsessed with this programme. My kitchen diner wouldn't be happening right now if it wasn't for this show. I really wanted to see the other design for this week's but never mind!

ElizabethTudor · 03/06/2021 18:11

Laura didn’t design The Slim House.
This company did
www.alma-nac.com/

I think the architects just take Angela somewhere that reflects the design they’re doing that week. It’s not necessarily a previous project of theirs.

Great programme though. And I like the mix of designers this series. But I did have a soft-spot for Robert and his ‘original’ designs!

YellowFish12 · 03/06/2021 18:59

Laura was on ugly house to lovely house wasn’t she? I think she was my fav one on that show.

I can’t wait to watch this, shame the first season isn’t in iPlayer

In the utility room/tumble dryer?
TheSquarishCircle · 03/06/2021 19:11

Did anyone see the episode from the last series where the homeowners ended up with a bath in their kitchen ?

colouringcrayons · 03/06/2021 19:15

I liked some of Robert's designs and find Laura a bit repetitive. I am pleased to see a wider range of architects. Houses are often quite same-y and I love to see something different.
