Induction hob saucepans

I am thinking of replacing my gas hob with an induction one.

How do I know if my current saucepans will work on it? Will I need a whole new set? How about my Le Creuset pan?

If a magnet sticks to it then it will work on an induction hub. Doesn't need to stick hard, just stick!

Le Crueset will work fine, but you do need to go careful with the settings you use them on. I find that I use them on about half to warm the pan, then almost turn off once the pan is hot otherwise you can scorch the bases very easily.

I've got a set of Stellar pans that work fine, but my Ikea ones had to go to the charity shop. I'd check on the manufacturers website.

To be really clear - it is the bottom of the pan that needs to be magnetic! Doesn't matter about the sides because it's the bottom that the hob heats up.

If you have favourites that you can't bear to part with, then using one of these between the pan and the hob will make it work.

Obviously that's a bit clunky for every time you use a pan, but I use one to make my aluminium pressure cooker pan worm for example.

I’ve just converted to induction, love how clean it is . Binned all my pans and bought three new ones. Have been using for a couple of weeks and love it.

Ikea 365 are excellent and not expensive - line are 12 years old and going strong on induction.

There is a symbol for induction on many pans now that is like a coil in a text box.

We have a set of stainless pans from Costco (Kirkland) which are very good, and have thick bottoms. They work great on induction.

They need to be totally flat bottomed too otherwise you’ll scratch the hob.

I second the IKEA 365 pans. Cheap and excellent.

Nice, chunky bases is what you want, because the induction heat is generated in the base of the pan itself. Thinner bases, even if magnetic, can be a bit weedy - i have one pan that never gets beyond a gentle simmer, even with the ring on top whack.

Have also been very impressed with the IKEA pans, I only found v expensive options on John Lewis website, IKEA much cheaper, plus they are sturdy and neat.

I had a couple of Le Creuset pieces for the old hob and they work fine on the induction.

They work perfectly on induction. Mine are 6 years old and I use them virtually every day. They look like new. (I actually found them easier to use than Le Cruset).

I love my procook pans on the induction hobs we’ve had.

Worth a look and not too horrendous price wise.

I have just the same as East. going strong after 20 years & v fast on induction.

some of the other pans we have (e.g. wok) said induction on the label but are only weakly magnetic and therefore very slow to heat.

I'm just switching to an induction hob because of a house move. I'm worried that I will end up scratching the hob with all my old Le Creuset pans as they are all quite rough on the underside. Do the hobs scratch easily?

Yes. I would not use le Crueset cast iron pans. I have new le Crueset non stick hob to oven cookware from them and they are fine. I would highly recommend John Lewis own brand for induction hobs. My induction hob is utterly brilliant. It’s amazing so you won’t regret changing.

Also to work, the pan must be fully on the hub. So a rough base doesn’t work.

I've also got the JL classic stainless steel pans, same as eastwest, plus an enamel cookpot from Judge. Very happy with them.
