Hi there, we had this made today but really don’t like it now! The guy is coming back tomorrow so hoping to have it amended where I can (it’s nit finished as you can see). Thinking to at least lower the seating (as currently too high) and also loose the corner unit? What do you think? Or shall I just have it completely removed? Confused

It’s too high? How old / tall is the child in the photo? As their legs are almost touching the floor so surely most adults would find this a comfy height? Was the bespoke? Surely the carpenter measured the right height for seating and if it was something you bought off the shelf I would think the same thing? Once finished and dressed it’ll look good, and loads of storage too! Don’t throw the toys out of the pram too early buy getting rid before it’s even finished. See it finished, dressed and in situ before you decide anything. Once finished and in use you might love it.

It's done now, so I'd accessorise it up and live with it for a while and then see how you feel. If you still don't like it after a few months get the sofa you're talking about and reuse the cubby hole units somewhere else? Still worth speaking to the carpenter to see if he can lower it as that's the main thing I think, but don't write it off yet
@MNHQ can you please remove photo with child on 1st post
All sorted.

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2021 08:31

Any lower and it will be really difficult for anyone to sit on it other than small kids, ant they grow.

Spaghettio · 22/04/2021 08:45

If the height is a problem, could you have a small step/foot rest put in so it feels more comfortable? I'm a shorty so am used to dangling feet on higher chairs, but a footrest/bar always makes me feel more comfortable.

I really like it and think once you've got a table and cushions it'll be lovely.

aquamarine1 · 22/04/2021 08:51

Once the cushions are on as per your inspiration photo it'll
look exactly the same! I definitely wouldn't be thinking of lowering it.

UCOinanOCG · 22/04/2021 08:57

Have you put a normal dining chair next to it to see how it compares in height? Maybe you will need a thinner cushion than you imagined but it looks good to me.

121hugsneeded · 22/04/2021 09:10

Top of seat should be 450mm - 500mm . Inspiration pic didnt have the plinth that your guy has put in - that's probably what's throwing it.
It might be easy to remove the plinth and drop it down so it's like the photo . Ask . Fingers crossed for you.

Duvetflower · 22/04/2021 09:18

How high is it? It looks about right to me. If I were to change anything it would be the plinth, it look too far set back. I think it would look much better flush with the rest of the unit.

What is it for though? Either dining table seating or mudroom great, random thing to fill up a space you don't know what to do with - less great

Waitforwhat · 22/04/2021 10:05

We are having it dropped today and just put down as a freestanding unit that we can hopefully pass on (instead if throw away!). I will report back later today! Thanks all for the input! This was supposed to act as a lounging area (as we already have a diner/bench etc. elsewhere)...we shall see if it will work! Maybe it wasn’t worth the trouble to start with!

Watching with interest as we are planning something similar. Really like how it looks

Waitforwhat · 22/04/2021 14:06

Just to update, this has now been down and as a freestanding unit that we can move around (use elsewhere if needed). I think it looks much better and also works a lot better as a lounging area...image of unfinished work attached :) Feeling a lot better about it all! Thanks everyone!

Has been lowered*

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2021 14:18

I think if you think it looks better that’s what matters op. I’m sure it will be a useful area. Moving it around is a positive if you’ve that need. To be honest I thought it looked better in the first image, sturdier and more elegant where the baskets weren’t on the ground.and now it looks too low to be comfy but it’s hard to tell from pics.

Duvetflower · 22/04/2021 17:46

Looks much better

121hugsneeded · 22/04/2021 18:30

Looks just like the inspo pick now ! Love it 😍

The cushions are too small.
Waitforwhat · 22/04/2021 21:43

The cushions/seat pad are from the garden sofa! 🙈 I just put it there to have a rough idea!

Yes, they are. It looks horrendously uncomfortable.
