Corner seating area...please cretic this!

Hi there, we had this made today but really don’t like it now! The guy is coming back tomorrow so hoping to have it amended where I can (it’s nit finished as you can see). Thinking to at least lower the seating (as currently too high) and also loose the corner unit? What do you think? Or shall I just have it completely removed? Confused

The seat height is surely dictated by the height of the dining table? Or is this additional seating? If it's additional seating I'm not sure when you'd use it or what for in a dining area. If it's going to have a large dining table in front of it, bear in mind it might be a pain to access whatever is in the storage compartments.

yomellamoHelly · 21/04/2021 19:42

I think it'll be great once the cushions are on, the table is finished and you've got the lovely rug, coffee table etc
What's the height and depth like for you to sit on? (Your dc will grow.)

Winecheesesleep · 21/04/2021 19:43

I think it will look really good once it's got cushions etc on it!

Waitforwhat · 21/04/2021 19:44

@LizzieMacQueen does that mean you alerted them already or do I need to do anything additional?

I really like it OP, once it's dressed and painted the final colour I think it will look great as a hang out spot in the kitchen. Good use of space as well tto have fitted furniture plus storage. Have a little coffee table in front and nice squishy cushions to soften it.

PresentingPercy · 21/04/2021 19:50

Measure the seat height of dining chairs and get cushions made to build the height up to adult dining chairs. You will hardly see the seating once a table is there. Seating with storage is a good idea but you need to make it your own. The brown cushions in your inspiration are awful. Try and use a fabric that’s nicer!

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 21/04/2021 19:50

Like a pp said, have it at adult sitting height rather than made for children - kids grow quickly and are usually quite happy with legs off the floor on my experience!

Tomatobear · 21/04/2021 19:59

I think a few colourful printed cushions and wicker baskets like your picture would make a difference. Maybe a sheepskin rug or two!

ARoseDowntown · 21/04/2021 20:08

It worked in your inspiration photo because the windows are low. This seating is the only option, barring free-standing benches.

It’s an odd height for a kitchen diner. At this height, it’s for a mud room ie you sit on it to take shoes off/put shoes on. Pegs hanging over it, hats gloves scarves in the baskets underneath.

This height is a bit odd. You can’t sit and eat at it. You can’t lounge on it.

You’ll also need to fix the back cushions to the wall, or have some sort of wooden headboard thing, else you’ll be slipping and sliding around.

Once the height is fixed and the cushions sorted, it will be fine.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/04/2021 20:14

@Waitforwhat you can alert them by @ them on a reply to this thread. Then you can tell them what you want to do, eg remove that particular photo.

Waitforwhat · 21/04/2021 20:16

@MNHQ can you please remove photo with child on 1st post

I think it looks nice - to lower it would be more work and possibly same cost again.

Pumpkinstace · 21/04/2021 20:20

Is not finished!

I painted my room great and it felt so cold and clinical until I finished with curtains, rug, wall art etc.

It will look completely different once it's finished

Blue4YOU · 21/04/2021 20:23

I’m going to have something similar when we ever get our extension done, but it will probably be higher and have a dining bench type table, so kind of like a banquette in a bar... and my disabled DD can have her adaptive chair wheeled up to it.
You got to soften it.. rug under table, throws, cushions etc

HeronLanyon · 21/04/2021 20:33

I can imagine this working well if for a table (ie bench seating) or boot room. If it is for comfy seating I know I would ever use it just as I have never used the window seats I have in very thick- walled cottage. Look great just never use them.
Cant see how the height can be reduced without basically starting again due to inserts in frame.
The corner thing once it’s all finished could work really well with lamp/plant on it and in fact would make me more likely to sit there than without.
Good luck op hope it works.
Easily softened and could be great.

Waitforwhat · 21/04/2021 20:44

That’s the problem currently it’s too high for an adult even without cushions on! So just won’t work and now one would use it

OP posts:
iluvnettletea · 21/04/2021 20:46

I really like it. I agree that a lamp on the table and a bit of colour - maybe a printed cushion and a solid lampshade in a coordinating colour - would finish it nicely.

PresentingPercy · 21/04/2021 21:11

Ask the carpenter to come back and reduce the height. Didn’t you measure what height you needed to replicate a chair? I can’t really see it as lounging - as suggested above. It’s seating so must be dining chair height or it won’t work with a table.

parietal · 21/04/2021 21:18

I think it could be fine for lounging IF you have a high solid coffee table to put your feet on. I assume you have another table to eat at? The benches are too deep on this to use as a dining table.

Another tweak would be to take away the high corner so it is all one height which is also better to lounge, like a L sofa.

PrimalLass · 21/04/2021 21:22

Seats are normally about 40cm (I think) from the floor

Waitforwhat · 21/04/2021 22:20

Thank you all for the feedback. I think perhaps best to remove and just buy a small sofa for that area 🤦🏻‍♀️

ZubinB · 21/04/2021 22:31

I did something similar in my dining room/play room OP. I think yours will look great when you've dressed the space. Just get some thinner cushions? Maybe paint it a dark colour? Have attached mine - it's great for dining/kids doing their crafts etc.

Don't do that! You liked it and it's done now - give it a chance. It will look great dressed up like your sample pic.
itsmeagainagain · 22/04/2021 07:19

I love it! Presumably a table will be going there too? It’s perfect for a family. I would live with it for a bit and see how you get on

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2021 07:22

How’s it too high? It does not look it? I think with cushions ans baskets it will look great.
