Beko appliances?

Having just seen a thread about the Blue Light card I logged on mine to see if they have appliance discounts as am sorting mew everything for a kitchen renovation.

There's 25% off Beko.

Is this a good brand or not? DH is stuck on everything has to be Bosch but I want to spend less if possible!

Thanks

We just relegated our Beko fridge freezer to the garage after 10 years because the fridge light doesn’t work and it was looking a bit grotty.
It’s still working though

Beko freezer and fridge freezer are great.
Very unhappy with my Miele dishwasher. It doesn't ways follow that expensive is better.

Bought a lovely kitchen from B&Q recently for rental property. All their appliances are Beko and they recommend them highly. No commission involved , so I believe them. And they are installed and look great.

torquewench · 09/04/2021 10:29

One of my colleagues had a 8mo Beko fridge freezer. It overheated and her entire house burned down whilst she was away, so they get a hard no from me.

Notavegan · 09/04/2021 10:39

Bosch has been outlasted by beko here. My smeg dishwasher also needs 2nd repair. In warranty but still annoying

It's to keep their overalls cost down. Sell the budget appliances. They were literally targeting the market there. Rental property? Cheap appliances. Dream home? They would be recommending higher level appliances.

I replaced a Netflix dishwasher, which caused me no end of problems, with a Beko still doing a great job. My kitchen people were very snobby about me choosing Beko washer and dryer over their much more expensive brand - but I've been very happy with them. I think of Beko as the unheralded workhorse in the kitchen.

Changingwiththetimes · 09/04/2021 10:43

Netflix? I mean Neff!

KetchupOnTheFloor · 09/04/2021 10:52

Years ago I had Bosch, then moved onto Beko for a dishwasher, I thought it was a better product. I had a Beko larder freezer in the garage for 17 years which finally died and I replaced it with another Beko. I have had 2 Beko tumble dryers.

I think there is a lot of brand snobbery with appliances. They all do pretty much the same job. My sister bought a Fisher and Paykel fridge freezer and had no end of issues with it. Replaced it later with a Whirlpool one, no problems and much cheaper.

I also think that not many people have their appliances serviced, only resorting to getting an engineer in when something goes wrong.

Beko are a good reliable brand.

WombatChocolate · 09/04/2021 13:15

Beko were the bargain basement brand new kids on the block a few years ago. They are still around because their products are good enough for the brand to keep going.

There will be other cheaper brands now that most of us have never heard of.

In terms of use per £ it’s generally pretty good. In most cases it won’t last as long as a product costing 3 times the price....no real surprise there.

One thing about cheaper products is whether you’re interested in the environmental issues about replacing more frequently. Use per £ the Beko or other cheap product might not be more expensive. But what do you think about sending 3 instead of 1 of those the landfill?

Many people looking at cheaper versions have zero interest I the environmental aspect. It is a feature though!

Another thing you could look at is whether products can be repaired. Lots really can’t these days. So once they break down or something goes it’s the end of them. That can be the case for more expensive versions too.

There’s no certainty with electricals. Lots of people say more well known more expensive brands aren’t as good these days. You can get lucky and something can last many years or it might not.

I’ve taken to buying £9.99 kettle from supermarket or Argos brushed stainless. It is 1/3 of pretty much identical product. I’ve found most kettles last between 1 and 2 years. I’ve taken an extended 3 year warranty for £4. Now my £14 kettle will be with me in some form for 4 years. I’m happy with that.

Harriscap · 09/04/2021 13:37

Extended warranties often mean they will replace- that kettle still goes to landfill. There isn't a direct correlation between price and longevity of the product, often cheaper products can be more repairable. Spending £££ on a Bosch with a sealed drum that breaks after 3 years is a waste of money, it still goes to landfill. It's not that those who buy cheaper don't care about the environment, it's that the environmental choices are not always obvious.

PickAChew · 09/04/2021 13:45

Beko are by far the best of the budget brands. I have a 10+ year old beko fridge - it's really well laid out, inside (though not very deep, so we can't get as much in it as we'd like) and the plastic fittings inside are much sturdier than hotpoint etc. Where it lacks is the external build quality - visible glue, thin metal that dents when you look at it funny, a handle that we've had to replace several times and so on.

WombatChocolate · 09/04/2021 13:47

I agree that the environmental choices aren’t obvious. It is hard to make the better environmental choice. Firms don’t want to make that info obvious to us because so many of them don’t offer much in the way of environmental choices.

I think it’s low down most peoples list of priorities too.

And yes, the extended warranty may mean I have 3 kettles over 4 years and all go to landfill in the end. It might have been a more economical but not environmental option. But as you say, the more expensive product might not have lasted longer.

With all of this, perhaps the cheaper product with a reasonable reputation makes sense. And where possible we should look to repair and not bin products that still work, simply because we fancy a new one. Good examples of information failure impeding consumer choice.

We replaced a top of the range utterly shit samsung dishwasher with a used 4 year old beko, out of our rental house when the tenants moved out. It's excellent, never lets me down, which is more than can be said for the utterly shit, phenomenally expensive samsung. Currently looking for another Beko dishwasher, in fact!

HomeMakeoverSOS · 09/04/2021 18:13

We also have a Beko dishwasher which was a Which Best Buy

@LovingBob, which model is it please? I'm trying to decide which one to get

PicsInRed · 09/04/2021 18:21

Beko isn't high end, however their freezers can cope with below freezing temps so you can plug an extra one in the garage. Winner.

DaisyWaldron · 09/04/2021 18:27

I bought my Beko fridge freezer in 2001. It has started making strange noises occasionally, so I'm prepared to only get 20 years out of it, but it's been pretty good going. My Beko dishwasher only lasted 5 years.

CushionMountain · 09/04/2021 18:47

Our last Bosch dishwasher was awful. 8 out of 10 washes it left crud all over the dishes. Gave up on it when all the plastic broke off the ends of the spikes on the racks and the detergent just eroded them away. Replaced it with a Beko for half the price and never had a problem with it and it's 3 years old now. We've always had Bosch before but I've lost faith.

This was probably about 5 years ago so the model isn't available now it is a slimline DSFS 1531W, it washes really well.
moochingtothepub · 09/04/2021 19:16

Most of mine have been beko, good value for money

PurpleMustang · 09/04/2021 19:47

Had a dishwasher for about 8 years and an oven for 6 months. Great value

We have this one too. It's 8 this year. We're just buying new plate holders as we've lost some 'teeth' from these. Otherwise, no issues. (And it gets a surprising amount into it too!)

RuthW · 09/04/2021 20:03

Love Beko. Good quality and they last well

Garlia · 09/04/2021 20:28

I really rate Beko, have a Beko washing machine and fridge freezer that have been reliable and just like new 6 years later.

Sometimes123 · 09/04/2021 20:30

Beko are great. Have a dishwasher, fridge, wahingmachine and dryer. They last forever!
