9-11k for a new bathroom

Just had a quote for 9-11k for a new bathroom. We're in Central London. The price seems a bit OTT. We need everything doing, new tiles, bath, vanity unit, lights etc but is a relatively small space. They also said it would take 3 weeks. We only have 1 bathroom and there are currently 4 of us living in the flat!

We’ve just had our little bathroom done and it was 11K. Labour was 7,300 (plumber, tiler, electrician and some carpentry) rest was the shower/bath/lights. It’s easy to spend that amount, I could have spent more! It took them 8 days and it’s beautiful!

That sounds about right.

We had a new bathroom 2 year ago. All the quotes from supply & fit companies were around £10-15k. We eventually ordered everything ourselves using a number of online supplier and hired an independent fitter. We got a double ended free-standing bath, bespoke vanity, extra large walk-in shower, LED lighting, Laura Ashley tiling throughout and Crosswater taps/shower for £6-7k. The products were better than we would have got otherwise, and the result was great. Took about three weeks with 1-2 people on site leach day. We are commuter belt South East.

It depends what the quotation covers. If this is pure labour to fit a suite/do some tiling, for a small space I think it does sound expensive. If there is structural work or if this quotation includes the cost of the bathroom suite, it starts to look more realistic.

Yorkshire
The bathroom cost £4000 and almost £2k of that was a steam shower bath jacuzzi combo and then £2000 to fit.

Sounds high to me , but I’m not in London and it’s difficult to understand how much things cost when your from the sticks🙂.

This shower cost me about a1000 and the whole shower room was about 2k I did everything myself except the plastering and it took about 3 months ( I’m slow ) 😉

I should have been a bathroom fitter I’m not fast but for that kind of money you can afford to take your time and do a quality job .😬

Interesting stuff. We’ve just got a quote for about 11 thousand including 1,500 of fittings - zone 2 - and were wondering whether that was a decent price.

mobear · 30/04/2021 18:32

That sounds about right to me for Central London if it includes basic materials and VAT.

Daisy829 · 30/04/2021 18:34

We had ours done 2 years ago. We were pretty surprised how expensive it was. We are Manchester & it cost us £10k. Pleased with it though.

Daisy829 · 30/04/2021 18:35

Most of that price was the fitters fees to be honest. Think he got about £6k. Took 2 weeks and it was all stripped back.

CoconutChair · 30/04/2021 18:37

I’ve just had quotes back to do our 3 bathrooms. They vary in size from small to medium. I asked for the quote to include fitting and tiling, electrician and under floor heating and half-height panelling. The labour costs are between £10-12k each bathroom. That’s in Surrey. I’m estimating £6k each bathroom for sanitary ware and tiles.

Tibtab · 30/04/2021 18:41

I’m in the SW and was quoted £8k for our bathroom, not particularly big, mid range fittings and tiles. Seems about the going rate, especially f you have a London surcharge.

Changingwiththetimes · 30/04/2021 20:58

I'm in shock! I have put new bathrooms ingor £3k, snd in one place a bathroom where here were no drains at all- shiwrt, bath, tiling, macerator toilet, plumbing, electrics etc snd ut wad les. Then £5k. Not London though. There I was quoted £10k to redo a shower- literally just the shower - and that didn't include materials! Never did it.

121hugsneeded · 30/04/2021 21:03

I've been quoted £6k to put one loo in !

Hollywhiskey · 30/04/2021 21:53

We did ours for £2.5k which was high end materials but no flooring as we kept the old stuff and my husband did all the labour including hand building the units. So when you are talking about it being ten days work for say two professionals (I have no idea, I made that up off this thread), add VAT, £10k doesn't look too much, especially if you're adding in flooring as well, and you're in London.

Qc16 · 30/04/2021 22:00

I’ve just had a quote of £3800 for fitting a shower room including a Saniflo. This includes all the pipes etc and we will supply the sanitary ware.South West London and I know there are cheaper plumbers around here.

ChequerBoard · 01/05/2021 15:54

Sounds pretty good if that's all in.

We've just had our small en-suite redone and that was about £8k. Broken down, that was 4K to plumbers (lots of difficulty rejigging of pipe work needed), 3k for fitted furniture, ceramics, shower, tap, big mirror cabinet , lighting etc and the rest on amtico flooring and fully tiling the room.

Looks amazing now though, great quality finish. About to start the next bathroom in the same way.
