Do you tip removal men?

And if so, how much?

PawPatrolOnARoll · 24/03/2021 21:42

We did, £20 each (there was 2 of them). They were really excellent and got the job done efficiently with great banter Grin

greengrey · 24/03/2021 22:08

We also did at £20 each and we had three.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 24/03/2021 22:14

Yes. We did 20 quid each and there were 3 of them. It was hard physical graft all day and they were great.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 24/03/2021 22:58

Blimey!

The removal is costing quite a lot as it is. I was thinking a tenner each, I think there might be about 4, but would that be insulting?

I was going to tip a tenner but my three men were like machines, they worked really well together and consulted me on nearly every box. Definitely deserved the £20.

JudgeRindersMinder · 24/03/2021 23:03

I’m being charged £1500 to move less than a mile. Granted they have an excellent reputation but I won’t be feeling the urge to tip them!

crazylikechocolate · 24/03/2021 23:41

My guys worked their socks off , nothing was too much trouble , made a difficult time easy , well worth a £20 tip each

IpreferInchyraBlue · 24/03/2021 23:43

£20 quid each and food and drink all day and yet still my DMs jewellery disappeared. Sad

Foolingaround · 24/03/2021 23:46

£20 each here and pizza for lunch once when they were really kind and put my trampoline together.
We move every two years or so and I know they don’t get paid much, obviously the fee goes mostly to the company.

I can’t believe some of ours are still working, two are early sixties and still lugging sofas around, their backs must be ruined.

Mosaic123 · 25/03/2021 06:24

Jewellery - we took jewellery and 2 paintings to a friend's house for a couple of days. Too difficult to keep an eye on.

Roselilly36 · 25/03/2021 06:30

We were impressed with our removal firm, they worked there socks off, loaded drove to our new home, 3+hour drive, unloaded, made up beds, 12 hour day. I gave them sweet & biscuits to have on their journey, made them tea coffee in the morning. Gave them cash to buy lunch. @JudgeRindersMinder that seems very high to me we paid £1800 and moved 200 miles away. Good luck with the move.

Bluesheep8 · 25/03/2021 07:18

No. I don't get a tip for doing my job. I offer drinks and food though as a matter of course for anyone working in my house.

ConstanceGracy · 25/03/2021 08:06

We did as they were brilliant and had to put up with a lot of crap as our buyers turned up 2 hours early(against advice!)so they then had to skip their lunch so they could get us out even quicker.
They were also lovely and very funny.
We gave them £80 between them and there were 6 of them , was the only cash we had to hand

user1493413286 · 25/03/2021 08:11

We tipped £20 each when they were really good. More recently they were quite crap so we didn’t

emmathedilemma · 25/03/2021 09:08

I don't think it would even occur to me to tip them! Drinks and snacks to keep them going yes but cash, no.

iluvpickles · 25/03/2021 09:24

We tipped £20 in total there were 2 guys. It wasn't a company as such so they were getting paid the removal fee anyway which was quite a decent amount of money. It's hard graft though so we were happy to give a bit extra. We also helped bring stuff in and out of the house to speed up the process. Left the heavy stuff to them though.

TankGirl97 · 25/03/2021 09:30

Yes, something like £10 and some nice local beer. They were great though, and worked like machines!

FayleWatersWaters · 25/03/2021 09:34

No, I wasn't that impressed with them to be honest, and there were 7 of them. They didn't do some of the jobs that they should have, but I didn't have the energy to argue with them about it at the end of a very long day (e.g. wardrobes were left downstairs because they couldn't be bothered to dismantle to take them upstairs). So definitely no tip, but I did feel obliged to offer food and hot drinks throughout the day, and I did a McD's drive through run for them at lunchtime.

KnottyKnitting · 25/03/2021 09:38

We didn't- they broke a picture, dropped my tumble dryer and scratched my newly french polished antique piano. I then had to pay £50 excess on the insurance claim...

SilverGlassHare · 25/03/2021 09:40

Yes - £20 each. Plus snacks and drinks through the day.

SilverGlassHare · 25/03/2021 09:41

Mine were great though, they worked really hard. We also helped them load and unload the vans, and they were surprised - they said mostly people just sit on the sofa and watch them.

JudgeRindersMinder · 25/03/2021 10:10

@Roselilly36 😊 thank you...we did get several prices and this fell kind of towards the upper middle of them. Happy to feed and water them, but I’m not tipping!

LampsOn · 25/03/2021 10:48

Nope, we didn't. But they turned up late, got the size of the van wrong so left us with a load of stuff we needed to shift ourselves...and they were rude. I would have done if I was happy with the service however.

folloyourarro · 25/03/2021 11:14

We never tipped the large companies that were getting thousands from us. We recently moved with a man with a van and basically paid 50% more than he quoted because it was so bloody cheap and did a terrific job.

unCliche · 25/03/2021 11:17

We gave them each a bottle of wine to say thank you.
