Neff Slide and hide ovens

Tisforptarmigan · 21/03/2021 13:49

We are planning on replacing our kitchen this year. I fancy the Neff slide and hide ovens. Are they worth it, or have I been seduced by Bake Off?
I want two ovens. Would you have two the same or slide and hide + normal oven?
Any recommendations welcome, have been waiting 12 years to replace my horrid kitchen, so want to get thing right.

Love ours. The oven is in an area that is constantly walked past so it helps not to have to stand back so far to open the door and reach in. Not easy to keep clean though.

Acovic · 21/03/2021 13:55

I deliberately didn't chose them as I use the door as a staging post for hot dishes a lot - to baste/ rearrange/ turn things. My oven is tucked away in the corner of the kitchen with no though traffic).

I got a miele. Really love it!

My new kitchen is the best money I have ever spent - it's very functional and really easy to cook & bake in.

Friends have slide and hide and like it. I think it depends on your kitchen layout.

I love slide and hide

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 21/03/2021 13:57

I wanted one for my new kitchen 2 years ago. Really really wanted one. Until I saw the price, and decided that I'd rather have the super fancy hob that I'd also had my eyes on for a few years instead.

The hob is in full view, the slide and hide is, well, just an oven when the door is closed, and for the 20 seconds it is hidden, a very very expensive gimmick.

*disclaimer, yes I would still have one if my budget had stretched, but I'm a stingy Yorkshirewoman

camelfinger · 21/03/2021 14:00

I know people who love them but I’m not sure what the benefit is. I’d prefer to have the natural distance of the opened door between myself and the oven if opened fully, and prefer not to let the heat out by just opening it a little bit and sliding in the tray at the top. Plus if it sounds more complicated then it might be trickier to replace if it breaks.

chrisrobin · 21/03/2021 14:09

I have 2 hide and slide ovens, one was the basic model, the other was a more expensive one, and love them. I have short arms (am 5') and always found reaching over a door to put food in/out difficult so they make cooking so much easier for me. They slide up and down quickly so you don't lose too much heat and you don't have to slide it all the way, you can just open it a crack if you're basting. We put them in 5 years ago so I don't know what the latest models are like settings wise, but we found that both ovens have a good range of useful settings

MsLumley · 21/03/2021 14:20

I have 2 slide and hides and love them. Our ovens are positioned right by the entrance to the kitchen so having the doors able to slide away means nobody walks in and accidentally crashes into them.

Tisforptarmigan · 21/03/2021 14:39

Thanks for all your comments, they are very useful.

I am planning on having them opposite an island so the extra space could by useful.

Just like another poster I’m less than 5ft with a bad back, it’s fab I never want any other oven again

As a bonus I got it half price from Curry’s so cost less than a bog standard oven

I have two, and like PP, prefer them because it feels much safer for access, especially with heavy things.

Midlifephoenix · 21/03/2021 15:30

I have one in a narrow galley kitchen but I wouldn't necessarily get one again. I don't ever leave the oven door open so it's not like I need the space to walk around. Now a slidaway dishwasher door I can get behind - I am often catching my legs on that!

Tisforptarmigan · 21/03/2021 16:57

I'm only 5' 2" and am having two stacked. Sounds like they would be the right choice so I reach inside easily. Thanks everyone.

I am 5ft with big noone so slide and hide all the way so I can reach in and not burn anything. I also have a Neff full steam oven too, like you with an island nearby

I have 2 stacked and I am short and have no issues. One is a mid range, the other a steam. They are at the end and opposite a fridge so having the doors disappear doesn't make the space look cramped.

Love the idea of a hide and slide dishwasher door!

MazDazzle · 21/03/2021 20:14

We have regular built in ovens in our own home and slide & hide ones in our second home.

I like the novelty factor or the slide & hide and it’s a satisfying motion, but other than that, they are annoying.

I didn’t realise how often I lay something on the oven door. If I’m switching cakes round for example, or basting something, or shaking up the pan, or turning things over. I wouldn’t bother next time.

My grandmother had one and it was smaller than a normal oven and a pain to open it and then close if you are wanting to be quick

OnceUponARainbow · 21/03/2021 20:23

I have one, with a combi / microwave above. It is ok but I’m not sure I’d bother again. Like someone said it can be useful having the door to quickly balance things on and our kitchen layout doesn’t mean it is particularly useful. I’d see if there was somewhere else you’d rather prioritise eg amazing job/hw tap etc.

MazDazzle · 21/03/2021 21:45

I didn’t realise I did it @LittleOverwhelmed until I got the slide and hide. I’ve since dropped a roast chicken taking it out of the oven. Blush

I suppose when I had a range I would have put things on the hob instead.

OwBist · 21/03/2021 21:50

Another short person here. Love mine for the reasons already stated. I got the pyrolytic one to make cleaning easier. No problems so far (had it just over 6 months), and no cooking disasters.

Literallynoidea · 21/03/2021 21:51

I love ours
