Neff Slide and hide ovens

We are planning on replacing our kitchen this year. I fancy the Neff slide and hide ovens. Are they worth it, or have I been seduced by Bake Off?
I want two ovens. Would you have two the same or slide and hide + normal oven?
Any recommendations welcome, have been waiting 12 years to replace my horrid kitchen, so want to get thing right.

I have a slide and hide with a micro combi above. Love them. Love the self cleaning function on the lower oven.

HeronLanyon · 21/03/2021 21:51

I don’t think I’ve ever put something in my open over door either. No good reason just haven’t seen it as a strong surface.
I’ve also never left the oven door open long enough to worry about someone else walking into it. It’s o my ever open for moments so haven’t ever seen the point of hide and slide (or slide and hide). They have to have as much space to open fully as a conventional door but then Just slide in ??

HeronLanyon · 21/03/2021 21:53

Oh once when boiler broke i heated my kitchen with oven door wide open for some time (no small children or pets around). But to buy one just for this seems a bit much. Grin

To those of you suggesting slide n hide dishwasher doors, wtf?

You need the dishwasher door to catch the drips from eg coffee mugs, dirty plates etc. Slide n hide would mean they would all drip on your kitchen floor!

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 21/03/2021 22:09

Is there anyone on this thread who hasn't got 2 ovens?!

Tisforptarmigan · 22/03/2021 14:55

ReservoirDogs - your kitchen is beautiful.

I have never rested anything on my oven door, I always assumed that it would collapse! You are all very brave doing this.

I love my slide n hide oven. We have telescopic rails for shelves in oven too so basting etc is a breeze.

Acovic · 22/03/2021 18:59

@Tisforptarmigan miele actually market their ovens with a 25kg weight limit on the doors.

(I think it's their strategy to diss slide and hide)

As upthread I'm a door shelf user.

Loveacheekysausage · 22/03/2021 19:15

@MonkeyNotOrgangrinder I don’t have two ovens, but I want two! We had double ovens in our last home and it was so convenient, especially at Christmas!

I like the thought of hide and slide, but I’m an oven door balancer too.

Next kitchen will have two self cleaning ovens!

Sadly not, would need to rewire the kitchen. Do have combi microwave though.
MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 22/03/2021 20:05

Just remembered I had a dream last night that I lived in a massive house which had 4 cookers in the kitchen! An aga, a rayburn and 2 other range cookers 😂
Yes I suppose it must be useful at times

ReservoirDogs · 22/03/2021 20:16

Thanks everyone. This from another angle. By the way - the slide and hides are definitely not smaller than regular ovens as a pp said.

Me too! It's beautiful.

@ReservoirDogs do you ever sit on the stools at the island? Designing a kitchen at the moment.

Nyfluff · 23/03/2021 05:34

I'm happy with our slide and hide. It's very roomy, you can open it a small bit to add something, and I regularly use the door as a temporary shelf by not pushing it in.

SeasonFinale · 23/03/2021 06:01

Yes they are used nore than the dining table which is up the other end of the room and not in shot with a family on the go and eating sometimes at different times. Also because of the proximinity of the garden in the olden days when a friend could come round for a coffee we would sit there as it is a lovely light room . More recently despite having a study too my husband uses it as his wfh office space!

Miele ovens are larger internally than the Neff hide and slide. I find my Miele is slightly wider internally. I get two roasting dishes I have side by side in the Miele. Looking at the specs, Miele is bigger. The door sliding under takes up some space. It’s inevitable. Miele is a superior product. Definitely better built.

bouncydog · 23/03/2021 06:27

Slide and hide fan here! 5’ 2” so great not having to reach over the door. If budget allows go for pyrolitic that clean themselves as well. Ours is paired with a combi microwave and warming drawer which we use loads.

Tisforptarmigan · 23/03/2021 13:39

Thanks for all replying. It's been really helpful. I'm going to go for it - and get the pyrolytic one. I hate cleaning ovens so this seems to be the best one for me.

I had my heart set on the slide and hide but got talked into a Siemens because it’s much more practical to clean. I made the salesman show me how to take the door glass off because I’ve lived with an oven where you couldn’t actually clean the door glass but at least it was hidden behind the island. The new oven is higher and will be visible. I don’t want it looking grim but I don’t want to spend hours faffing with it either.

SeasonFinale · 23/03/2021 21:44

When using the cleaning setting definitely take the chrome racks and side racks out. I forgot once on one of mine and they have definitely dulled.

benroyc · 26/03/2021 14:50

Hi all, I have a Neff Slide'n'Hide oven. How do you get on with yours? I don't think I've had so much difficulty getting an oven to cook things properly! I don't find the handbook much use, and when I spoke to a NEFF in-store demonstrator she told me to ignore the temperatures and timings and just cook as you would in any other oven. I have yet to cook a joint of beef or lamb successfully. The only thing the comes out fine is a roast-a-bag chicken. Everything else is overcooked, dry or seriously shrunk. Now, given that NEFF has been unable to help, I turn to the experts instead. Help!!!
