Complete in two days and I’m so anxious!

Just that really: thought I’d be excited but am second guessing everything. Is this normal?
Because of the pandemic I only saw the house once so I think maybe that is part of it.
The house needs work but we know that and have the money to do it: why am I stressing???!!!! DH says I’m just ‘mislabelling excitement’ Hmm

I always stress until the keys are in my hand and the boxes are inside. Perfectly normal in my experience. Good luck!

SushiGo · 14/02/2021 08:23

We are completing this week, also stressed! Feels like there is still loads to do in terms of getting the house ready for the movers to come in and pack.

Loofah01 · 14/02/2021 09:36

Completely normal and will probably last well after you've moved. Usually takes me months before I feel the new place is 'my home'.
Home moving in England is a completely shite process which seems designed to stress people out and be as difficult as possible

TheFlis12345 · 14/02/2021 09:55

We’re completing this week and I am so anxious about it! FTB so not sure quite what to expect.

Whineandwine · 14/02/2021 11:34

Glad to hear it isn’t just me! When we bought our current place we had no choice: small budget and fast market so had the confidence tht there wasn’t anything better out there we could buy. This time I’m feeling really worried about buyers remorse: what if the house isn’t right after all? What if it’s too much work, what if it subsides (building surveyor said no signs of subsidence so don’t know why I’m worrying about that!!!,) is it normal to feel like this?

I feel the same about our impending purchase OP. We are under time constraints due to school applications so it’s a now or never situation. That does mean we’ve had to settle in some ways, the house needs so much work, it’s daunting and exhausting to think about. I’m worried I’m going to regret leaving our lovely current home as soon as I set foot through the door of our new house. I know it won’t feel like home for a year or so, there’s a lot of work to be done to the house. We’ve also only viewed once and I’m frankly putting off our second viewing before exchange because I know it will make me feel overwhelmed at how much work there is to do before it feels like home.

But when moving day comes I’m going to keep reminding myself of the reasons we are moving - more space (eventually once we’ve completed the build!), good schools, a nicer quieter neighbourhood.

It’s the unknown, I think. Our current house has been so good for us, despite not being in an area I want to commit to for the secondary school years, and I don’t yet know how the new house will suit us.

Whineandwine · 14/02/2021 13:38

@SheWouldNever yes that’s exactly how I’m feeling! I’m hoping once we’re in I’ll calm down and start to see it as our home. Our current place has lots of compromises and I’ve learnt to love it.... fear of the unknown I think!

How long ago did you put your offer in? We got an offer accepted in early August and only moved a fortnight ago. By the end it just didn't feel like it was going to happen because it had dragged on for so long. Even when we exchanged contracts and started packing properly in my head I was convinced it wouldn't happen.

We got there in the end and our new house is wonderful and we're so happy. Hopefully you'll feel the same too!

custardbear · 14/02/2021 14:53

Aahh i think it's just nerves - send us a link and we can gush over your new home for you 😁

Whineandwine · 14/02/2021 18:01

It's lovely! I'm sure once you're in you'll be fine!

Whineandwine · 14/02/2021 22:02

Thanks @22WR house is all packed up now so no looking back. I’m googling high end designer kitchens to calm my nerves (knowing full well we’ll end up with a mid range wicked type kitchen - I can dream!)

Candleabra · 14/02/2021 22:04

Really normal, and definitely agree it takes some time for it to feel like home. House looks lovely. Good luck for tomorrow.

mountains76 · 14/02/2021 22:05

Be prepared to really not like the house at first. It’s normal. Once you’ve been in for a few days you’ll start to like it.

custardbear · 14/02/2021 22:38

Aahh that's lovely! I used to live nearby, and my BIL lives nearby now (I lived there about 35 years ago!) - it's a good area, always has been, you'll be fine xx

Whineandwine · 14/02/2021 22:40

Ha meant to write Wickes not wicked - not going for a Halloween theme....

Thanks everyone: this is calming me a bit. At the end of the day if it turns out to have been a terrible decision we can sell up again in 5 years or so - keep solicitors and estate agents in business!!

OP posts:
Whineandwine · 14/02/2021 22:42

@custardbear maybe I know you IRL! I grew up round the corner from this house: think that’s why I made a ‘heart decision’ on first viewing and am now wobbly. No worries about the area at all just getting wobbly about the house itself....

Candleabra · 14/02/2021 23:06

I did wonder what a wicked kitchen was. Sounds good though!

AntiHop · 14/02/2021 23:11

It's a really nice house. I love the downstairs layout. Don't worry if you don't feel comfortable straight away. That's normal.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 14/02/2021 23:13

I’m absolutely sure it’s normal to have last minute nerves! I’m completing this week too 😬. Good luck!

CrumbsThatsQuick · 14/02/2021 23:32

Gorgeous house.
(Hope you like blue Smile)

Whineandwine · 15/02/2021 00:30

@SushiGo
@ChittyChittyBoomBoom and @TheFlis12345 good luck to you guys: hope you manage to keep a lid on it better than I am!!
@CrumbsThatsQuick the photos are only half the story: the en-suite has a glitter blue tiled floor!! I have a large pot of Dulux trade white primed and ready to go!!

So glad i came across this its 1am. Due to some solicitor issues last week are are both exchanging and completing today (hopefully!) There was a last minute issue with our contracts for the house we are buying last monday. Our buyers were informed. They replied they had to complete today or they are out. Our solicitor worked her ass off last week (to amend her mistake) and sorted it by thurs. Our buyers solictor was informed by wednesday it was all being sorted and informed to sort the COT. He didnt until late Thursday so their mortgage funds werent in place so we couldnt exchange friday as planned. We requested our COT from the same mortage company and got it in place, with a little chasing , but they they didnt. Basically i spent all of last week stressed and not sleeping. Now im left panickinv. What time will it all be done. When will we get our keys how long do we have to get out. Realistically its at least 3 van trips and new house is 30mins away. Im verg very stressed and cant get excited yet

BrowncoatWaffles · 15/02/2021 01:47

@Fishingforhappiness @Whineandwine Happy completion days! Hopefully you’ll be in and unpacking before you know it.

OP I didn’t realise I needed a sparkly floor but I’m genuinely a bit intrigued. Gorgeous house!

Whineandwine · 15/02/2021 07:14

Oh @Fishingforhappiness that sounds horrid. We ended up exchanging later than expected so only had a few days between exchange and completion. When we bought our current place we were forced to exchange and complete in the same day- it was hideous so I do feel for you. Good luck today!
