Can anyone explain this layout...

Just come across this property whilst stalking rightmove - it is lovely and in a wonderful area but can't make out the front of the property - there seems to be a bridge to the front door which is on the second floor.... very curious. Floor plans don't help. Anyone any idea?

Looks like it is on a hill. Does street view give you any more info?

Teentitansonloop · 08/02/2021 14:35

Looks like the lounge is on the upper floor and bedrooms below? Very nice property.

Justmuddlingalong · 08/02/2021 14:41

If you watch the video, it looks like the bridge to the front door leads to the upstairs bedrooms. As the video comes up the stairs, there's a white door on the left, that looks like the inside of the front/ bridge door.

TenaciousOnePointOne · 08/02/2021 14:42

You enter in on the first floor and then stairs down to the lounge and kitchen. There is a video tour which shows you through the house it starts out the back.

dementedpixie · 08/02/2021 14:42

Did you watch the video walkthrough?

boredwiththeoldname · 08/02/2021 14:43

That bridge thing takes you to a door that leads onto the upstairs landing. The front door is on the opposite side of the building and downstairs.

titchy · 08/02/2021 14:43

Yep - front door is on first floor (the alternative would be having steps down to ground floor as ground floor is lower then the ground level at the front of the house then going upstairs to living accommodation).

Those stairs though - death trap!

Cheator · 08/02/2021 14:46

It's gorgeous, slightly unusual to enter via upstairs but I could live with that.

TwoBlueFish · 08/02/2021 14:49

Video shows that house is obviously on a hill so back garden is level with downstairs and bridge at front is level with upstairs.

starfishmummy · 08/02/2021 14:53

Those stairs though - death trap!

My thought too. It looks lovely apart from those!!

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/02/2021 15:04

We live in a hilly area and that set up is not uncommon.

HiPieInTheSky · 08/02/2021 15:13

Quirky property and is beautifully presented, but those stairs would give me the wobbles and every single light in the house appears to be on, wonder if it's so dark there is a need for that?

emmathedilemma · 08/02/2021 15:22

Gorgeous house, I might have just had a little weep about how cheap it is! It's definitely on a hill and the front door opens into the first floor. When you watch the video you can see the back garden through the door at the bottom of the death trap stairs.

foxhat · 08/02/2021 15:36

I'd never buy a house with stairs as dangerous as that! I'm not too steady on my feet so am cautious about those sort of things but surely there is way to make that safe?!

I think the floor plans are confusing the issue as on the ground floor (actually lower ground at the front) there is a door labelled 'entrance' but it's not really it appears to be a garden door. The actual entrance - which you see over the bridge - is by the bedrooms.

MariaAngustias · 08/02/2021 15:36

@Finfintytint great idea about streetview - OMG I love it even more now!

@starfishmummy yep, the stairs, also looks a bit dark.. maybe

Odd isn't it - they've made the rest of the house lovely and adding a nice bannister would have been really easy to do and not put people off!
toucancancan · 08/02/2021 16:28

Absolutely gorgeous house. They seem to be blocking the windows with too much furniture and ornaments which reduce the light.

SummerBlondey · 08/02/2021 17:49

Wow, that's a gorgeous house and great value.

Daisydoesnt · 08/02/2021 18:27

Never mind the death trap stairs....does anyone get the heebie jeebies from the knives in the butchers block cum island? They freak me out!

MrsL2016 · 08/02/2021 18:33

I agree that the bridge entrance takes you to the first floor where there are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with those wooden stairs to the ground floor living area. The stairs do look a bit deadly. The house is really quirky and beautifully presented but the small windows and what looks like every light on in the photos make me think it is possibly very dark and dingy.

polanama · 08/02/2021 18:37

Looks lovely but stairs look a death trap and no door between kitchen and stairs would be a no for me.

LionLily · 08/02/2021 18:46

The door on the floor with kitchen is marked entrance, it may be a funky upside down house, where you go downstairs to sleep.
Quite a few of those on the south coast where I am. The sea wall is quite high and the houses are built behind the wall so the houses have walkways to the front door. To get the benefit of views the living space is in the upper level, sleeping downstairs. They generally have a door downstairs out to their parking area.

RuggeryBuggery · 08/02/2021 18:51

Front side is at a higher level than the back. I think it would be annoying bringing your shopping in and haven’t to carry it downstairs to the kitchen but there’s a back door on the ground floor so maybe you can come in that way.
I also wouldn’t like sleeping on the same level as the front door from a burglars point of view but that’s a bit silly really, no different to a bungalow or ground floor flat.
I suspect the front downstairs side would be very dark

Myshinynewname · 08/02/2021 18:56

It's called Braeside - a brae is a hill/slopeSmile
Lovely house, I could definitely live with that quirky layout.

itsgettingwierd · 08/02/2021 18:58

The floor plans show the entrance at bedroom level and then another one at ground floor level from the garden.

I guess it would depend where parking is and which entrance you'd have to use.

Beautiful house though.
