what do you think of this house? It's our favourite by far but slightly out of our budget:

I'm surprised at the price, I didn't realise Swansea was so expensive. Lovely views but do you need to stand on a box in the loft to see it?

Acovic · 05/02/2021 19:08

So funny to see all the reactions. I clicked on the link and my first thought was "that's bloody cheap".

the two markets I know best are London and Edinburgh.... in neither place would you get anything like that for 350k.

I think it looks lovely. Views. Period features like the fireplaces and pictures rails. Good sized rooms with big windows and high ceilings. Gorgeous garden and views. Only thing I’m not keen on is the extension as it means the dining room has no window (I think?) but that’s just me. It’s getting hard to avoid this in older houses anyway.

Yes, I can see why you’ve fallen for it. I don’t know the area at all so I have no idea how it compares to other properties, though.

I’m not seeing the diy issue. The decor just looks decidedly untrendy - I don’t think it will be winning any interior design awards. But that doesn’t suggest there’s anything actually wrong with it. My first house was appallingly decorated but it was fundamentally a good house. New paint and carpet transformed it.

Occitane · 05/02/2021 19:18

It's ok. I hate to see the bike over the piano! That does make me think there's not enough room. There is another house on the same website for 5K more in Gower Road, which I prefer, as it has a large driveway, which I think makes a huge difference.

Starseeking · 05/02/2021 19:18

As there's no measurements on the floor plan, it was hard to gauge the size...why do some sellers not include dimensions on the floor plan, it's crucial!

Having watched the video tour it's actually huge! Even the 4th bedroom is not as tiny as it looks on the floor plan.

It seems a lovely house OP. I can't comment on the price as I don't know the area. Near me (North West Surrey), a house that size would be £900kConfused

Alienchannell21 · 05/02/2021 19:19

It's a lovely house from the outside. Just needs lightening up and a bit of modernising. Could be fab! The rooms do look dark though and a big small.
It was also a bit off putting that they didn't re take the video when a car/ van wasn't taking off out the front. Highlighted how close it was to a road.

Throughhistory · 05/02/2021 19:23

@ComtesseDeSpair

I think the garden is much more appealing than the house. The EPC ‘E’ rating seems low considering the house has modern double glazing and looks newly renovated enough that the boiler shouldn’t be too old. There are no dimensions on the floor plan so it’s difficult to gauge exactly how small the fourth bedroom is: is it large enough to comfortably fit at least a single bed and a proper wardrobe or is the house really a glorified three-bed with a study?
The dimension are in the details, the 4th bedroom is 3.368M X 2.445M, so not too bad a size at all.
user1467048527 · 05/02/2021 19:25

Just watched the video - it’s much nicer on there, and I already liked it. I’m sure there are better solutions for that bike.

Still don’t like the dark dining room though. Extensions that leave one room without a window put me off houses, so I’d have to seriously consider if I could get over that because the rest is so nice.

PattyPan · 05/02/2021 19:27

It looks ok, I don’t think the pictures really show it in its best light. The EPC would concern me though, as E is a really bad score and would give you high fuel bills. It looks like there is a lot of scope to improve it though which is good. The garden and view are lovely.

KirstenBlest · 05/02/2021 19:36

It's got a sea view.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 05/02/2021 19:58

@Bluntness100

I think it looks quite nice, I’m certainly not seeing any dodgey diy. The decking needs some care.

I don’t really understand comments on the garden furniture. Maybe rhe poster thinks it comes with the property.😂

Oh Blunty you are a wag. As you know perfectly well there was a very long running thread on here about hideous plastic garden furniture a few days ago. I'm sure you must have said your piece on it.
user1467048527 · 05/02/2021 20:14

My house did come with the garden furniture! Which I like immensely - although it’s ... green plastic pretend rattan! Sun-damaged, though, as previous owner didn’t look after things that well 😕

Atrixie · 05/02/2021 20:21

It has sea view. Other than that it needs an awful lot of cosmetic work

kennycat · 05/02/2021 20:23

I love the hallway and the vegetable patch. It doesn't particularly have kerb appeal but once you are inside you won't notice that!

TheRebelle · 05/02/2021 20:26

@Bluntness100 don’t you think so? That decor, flooring and kitchen is screaming DIY at me!

morninglive · 05/02/2021 20:26

Looks quite hilly?

Misandrylovescompany · 05/02/2021 20:27

Bad photos.

ChateauMargaux · 05/02/2021 20:42

I really like it.. fireplaces, box bay windows, picture rails, nice hallway, great views, awesome garden. I don't love the sun room at the back, the laminate flooring or the kitchen but I think these are all relatively ok compromises. I don't know how the price compares to other things you have seen but given it's been on the market for a while, maybe this is negotiable.

Esca · 05/02/2021 20:44

Do you know the area? My son used to live in Sketty. It's not peaceful (if that's important to you). It has quite a high proportion of student lets, and lots of people park in the streets around there to go to the uni, but I quite liked the area. Fab view, btw!

Proudboomer · 05/02/2021 21:49

If I wanted to live in Swansea would buy it for the garden.
I think the orange pine furniture, bike on the wall and piano in a hallway doesn’t do the house any favours but as that would be going with the present owners I would ignore them.
It is a nice house with some nice original features which the agent should have shown to a better advantage.

Bluntness100 · 05/02/2021 21:56

Oh Blunty you are a wag. As you know perfectly well there was a very long running thread on here about hideous plastic garden furniture a few days ago. I'm sure you must have said your piece on it

Oh, sorry I thought you were being serious.😃

@Bluntness100 don’t you think so? That decor, flooring and kitchen is screaming DIY at me!

No I think it looks fine, but then I am prone to doing a bit of painting myself so am maybe I’m inured to it.😂

mumwon · 05/02/2021 22:19

Why has it got such a low energy mark? No insultation? or old gas boiler ? it doesn't make sense?

ShellieEllie · 06/02/2021 10:11

It wouldn't be for me. I think it needs remodelling on the groundfloor. For starters I couldn't live with the windowless snug/dining room and would want to incorporate a bigger kitchen into the home. Garden is nice but would be an awful lot of maintenance, wish your weekends goodbye!

DragonMamma · 06/02/2021 10:21

I’m sorry Op, I think that’s a money pit in the making. It looks like everything needs completely redecorating, I could hear the floors creaking horrendously when the cameraman walked in to the back part of the house.

The garden is a good size though and I’m sure it could be beautiful - it has some great room sizes but needs a big overhaul. That snug is quite depressing and everything looks as though it was done on a budget.

I live not a million miles away so am familiar with the general area.

Seagullslanding · 06/02/2021 10:32

Are you only looking at Sketty? There are other nice areas of Swansea that may be comparable or cheaper. Are you from the area.
