Alternative colour to magnolia

Mallowmarshmallow · 03/02/2021 12:40

I'm keen to repaint our living room (open plan to kitchen). We have a cappuccino coloured carpet in the living room and pine amtico in the kitchen, neither of which I'm planning to change (open plan through).

We currently have magnolia in the living room and white in the kitchen end. The magnolia is too yellow in the light we get and I'm keen to have the same colour throughout.

The kitchen is an ice blue colour.

I'm keen to have a cream-ish type colour but preferably not with the yellow tint magnolia provides.

Does anyone have any recommendations that might work?

A soft white (e.g. school house white) might do it? Check with testers to see if blue or yellow tones come out in different lights.

(or you could go mad with navy)

Dulux Timeless - not white, not cream, not grey- just a neutral nothing sort of colour.

JaninaDuszejko · 03/02/2021 12:48

I don't know how you can have a cream that's not yellowy. Look for whites that have a touch of pink or blue or grey to avoid the yellowy effect. F&B do a white that has a touch of lilacy pink, great white I think?

Lund · 03/02/2021 12:51

Dulux Timeless is still quite yellowy - Jasmine White is paler, just off-white.

Bluntness100 · 03/02/2021 12:54

I’d go for a pale greige colour or a mushroom. Stay away from creams and whites.

Viviennemary · 03/02/2021 12:55

Get yourself a few testers. It's the only way. Natural calico is an ok neutral. It's less yellow than magnolia but still might be too yellow. But it looks different in different rooms and light.

Dulux Almond White. Our whole house is painted in it! Then with different accent paint/wallpaper in different rooms. Its a very "flat" colour with no yellow in it. Try it!

CheshireCat2021 · 03/02/2021 12:59

I have Dulux Almond White which is cream without being yellow.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 03/02/2021 13:03

Dulux soft hessian.

Google images show it to be much beiger than it is in reality.

Linen is nice too.

Cookies2523 · 03/02/2021 13:06

I agree with Lund - Jasmine White may be the ideal colour for you. We have it in our living room and it's perfect. Not too creamy but enough to see it's not white.

mistermagpie · 03/02/2021 13:26

I've got dulux soft hessian in my living room, it's a funny colour in that it looks different in different lights so it's actually quite adaptable to different accent colours and things. In my north facing room it's a slightly pinky beige, but in another east facing room it looks a cool cream colour. I like it and it's plain without being boring, it's definitely not yellow either.

Mallowmarshmallow · 03/02/2021 13:47

Thanks everyone. An off white totally might make more sense than anything more cream related.

Off to get some samples. Thanks!

I’ve got nutmeg white ( think it’s deluxe) throughout my small house and will prob do same colour when I freshen up paintwork in a couple of years time. Goes well with all colour schemes in my house.

BadEyeBri · 03/02/2021 14:06

Another vote for dulux timeless. It's the colour of full fat milk.

Knittingnanny · 03/02/2021 14:06

I also tried samples on my wall of the others mentioned ( almond hessian etc) and this one was the lightest and most non creamy coloured.

Knittingnanny · 03/02/2021 14:07

Dulux not deluxe!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/02/2021 14:13

Dulux Timeless is lovely.

PresentingPercy · 03/02/2021 14:18

Creamy colours are invariably yellow in tone.
I would look at the Farrow and Ball web site colours. Pick ones you like and scroll down for suggested colour schemes. See if any schemes incorporate a blue like your kitchen. I like neutrals but I had Jasmine White 40 years ago. It would feel as dated as Magnolia!

PresentingPercy · 03/02/2021 14:22

Shaded White. Strong White or Slipper Satin could work.

radioband · 03/02/2021 14:23

Try dulux almond white

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 03/02/2021 14:25

F&B Dimity is a warm deep creamy white. It’s nice and soft.

Bert2e · 03/02/2021 14:28

Natural calico?

Bills2pay · 03/02/2021 22:19

Second Dulux Timeless - is cool off white.

EmmaStone · 03/02/2021 22:33

Love Dulux Timeless, we've got it in our kitchen/dining room. Everything looks so clean and bright.
