Anyone live in Rugby? Considering a move there. Any thoughts please?

Brownsover is meant to be a bit rough but I've got a friend with family over there and she says it's fine!

There's a massive difference between Bownsover, Strawberry Fields and Coton Meadows.

I wouldn't personally move to Brownsover, (the 1970s council house roads are the roughest in town) but MIL moved from Bilton to Brownsover out of choice, and has no issues, apart form her next door neighbour, who is a policeman, once piled snow from his drive onto her front lawn. We're still hearing about it 15 years later.

If you have any queries about specific roads do ask.

My thoughts (only from having family over their I wouldn't live in Rugby through personal choice) My in laws used to live in Dunchurch (lovely area) Hillmorton is nice area, good for schools Ashlawn catchment. Bro in law living in Coton Park (I think its called) and the area seems nice although roads are awful for parked cars, like lots of new estates) houlton is a big development, seems nice. Like the cafe their. Avoid long Lawford, have friends who lived their and it was very rough (this was 5 years ago so may have changed) Villages I like nearby and not too bad for money are Crick, West Haddon in Northamptonshire. Do you need to be in Rugby? Kenilworth is about half hour away and is a nice town

Kenilworth is as, if not more expensive than Leamington!

Thatsveryniceofyou · 07/05/2021 20:52

Didn't realise. My in laws now live in Leek Wooton nr Kenilworth but price seemed reasonable compared to what we've just paid further south, guess everything really is relative

I think as with most towns, Rugby has some very nice areas, some average and some not so nice. Compared to Warwick, Leamington or Kenilworth, the not so nice areas are possibly worse.

Probably the thing most against Rugby is that the town centre isn't great. It's never been as nice as Leamington, and sadly by allowing the huge developments at Elliot's Field, the council has effectively driven the decline further. But it's quite possible to live in a nice area, take advantage of the great road and rail links, shop locally or Elliott's Field and ever go into the town centre if you don't want to. I'd be quite happy to do that.

*never go into the town centre

Rugby council really should be held to account for what they have allowed to happen to the town centre, by all the out of town retail parks. It makes the town centre feel very run down and sad.

We live in a village close to Rugby but have previously lived in Hillmorton which is a lovely area.

The girls at Rugby love wearing pyjamas under the skirts :-)

As with anywhere, it's what you make it. I have two sons, one in Leamington and one in London and neither would come back here to live. I fully expect my daughter to live elsewhere as well.

We like it mainly because we travel about the country a lot and it has excellent road and railway links. There does seems to be a lot of folk from London and the surrounding areas moved here recently, mainly for those same reasons, and that the houses are so much cheaper.

There isn't much in the way of nightlife, but there are some good sports clubs in the way of rugby, hockey and cricket.
