Have you tried Hillarys?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 17/01/2021 18:10

We used Clement Browne and have been very happy with them. Much cheaper than Hillarys too!

Starseeking · 17/01/2021 18:31

We used Clement Browne as well. They were excellent from start to finish, and would highly recommend them.

Thankyou all......will try Clement Brown. Not heard of them. Much appreciated.

We used The Window Clinic - excellent service and very high quality

Cardboardeaux · 17/01/2021 19:24

Shuttercraft are excellent

BigBox · 17/01/2021 19:25

We used www.shadingplaces.co.uk and they were excellent. Also got blackout blinds which are worth their weight in gold in summer!

Dinosauraddict · 17/01/2021 21:02

Could anyone give me rough prices for Clement Brown please? I'm SE but there's no indication on their website.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 17/01/2021 21:19

We had two windows done - fairly large windows but not bays. It was around £1500.

Starseeking · 17/01/2021 21:25

This is the largest window we had done, it was about £1,200, plus we had a few smaller ones too.

I love our shutters, and will really miss them when we move house later this year.

Another very satisfied Clement Browne customer here, I'm north London. I started a thread on this last year and there are more recommendations and info on prices and issues to think about on that. Let me know if you can't find it, I think the title was plantation shutters.

Fairydustrust · 17/01/2021 23:19

Gosh. Is this the expected cost of shutters? I got mine from Dunelm!

Bouledeneige · 18/01/2021 00:26

Can I ask if people who have had shutters fitted also have curtains? I'd like some in my bedroom and living but would also like to have curtains.

TeenTitan007 · 18/01/2021 00:57

Clement Browne here too. We had a guy called Charlie who did a flawless job. It cost £1600 for a tall large bay window.

Dinosauraddict · 18/01/2021 06:38

That's really helpful thank you everyone!

Yes, we do in the bedrooms. Shutters alone don’t get the room dark enough for me and I think curtains frame the window nicely too.

Starseeking · 18/01/2021 10:19

I don't have curtains, as the darkness is fine for us when they are closed, plus I prefer the standalone look of them.

What we really liked about Clement Browne was that the same person who came to measure up and quote was the same person who came to fit the shutters that we chose to go ahead with. The fitter went over and above to make sure that the area outside the shutter frame looked good, even though it wasn't technically in the scope of the work, so we were very pleased.

Zenithbear · 18/01/2021 10:27

I went with Hillarys they did a brilliant job in my previous home and I did haggle.
Two large bays were £900, other large flat windows were £800.
I don't have curtains as well, I can't stand them anymore.

Zenithbear · 18/01/2021 10:27

That's each BTW.

Bouledeneige · 18/01/2021 10:56

Thanks MsLumley. For my bedroom I like to be really really dark and I also like the warmth and look of curtains to go with my design for the room. Is there still room to fold away the top portion of the shutters if you have that style? I'd like to let the light in during the day.

itsgood2talk · 18/01/2021 11:08

We also used Clement brown. Very happy with them- excellent customer service and really good value for money and quality. We've had them 3 years so far and they still look brand new with no issues

TeenTitan007 · 18/01/2021 11:23

@Bouledeneige - shutters are fairly expensive. A bit of a waste to cover them with curtains (I think). In our bedrooms we have blackout roller blinds + curtains. In the living room it's shutters only.

Laai7 · 18/01/2021 14:06

We used a company called 'shutterlab'
They were absolutely brilliant. Great service from start to finish, and by far the cheapest quote (and I shopped around alot) Highly recommended!

Ours shutters are the ones that go all the way from top to bottom (not split in half down the middle of the window). We’ve got the ones with a vertical hinge down the middle so they fold in on themselves without sticking out into the room. They work fine with curtains but I have got a slightly longer curtain pole than needed so that the curtains can be pushed back a bit further so they’re out of the way. Hope that makes sense!

I've got these shutter blinds from Blinds to go! They are great, made to measure, DH fitted them!
